Just bought a pair of hatchlings! I’ve got over 500 ball pythons and 7 Retics, 2 dumerils boas. I predominantly breed ball pythons and Retics, but I’ve decided to branch out and decided to go with Bredli Morelia as there aren’t many guys in South Africa breeding them. As soon as I saw them, I was “I have to have those!” That look great! Can’t wait to pick them up next month!

This is an excellent video on a wonderful species. One thing a lot of folks don't mention is that in the wild, males ultimately end up the larger of the two sexes. Morelia Bredli, like some members of the Morelia Spilota family engage in male to male combat. Because of that, larger males typically win those battles and the right to mate. Nick Mutton explains this pretty well. He relates it to mammals and gives examples where males are the larger sex for that reason. I consider Nick to be the top dog when it comes to Bredli and venture to guess he has the largest collection of Bredli anywhere in the world. I'm sure in captivity females may be generally larger but that is likely due to how folks keep them. Another factor may be the physical output a male breeder must sustain. If kept and cared for the exact same way, males most certainly can equal, or exceed the size of females. Keep the videos coming and keep showing off your Bredli! You do nice work.

@UCq99z60WI1b7vDeow744UkA I spoke to Nick for about 2 hours today LOL! I hope you keep up with the species. I think you have come across the perfect python. I recently re-homed an awful, male retic and am strongly considering a male Bredli.

Indeed, I have a male (or at least that is what I was told he was) who was doted on as educational animal in his younger years and then kept as just a pet by me in the years since and he's at least 9 feet long (I know its hard to measure snakes, but taking pictures of him crawling outside and measuring points of known distance in those pictures with a tape measure always gets a amount a little over 9 feet). According to "The Complete Carpet Python" the biggest Bredl the author knew of was a male that was nearly 10 feet long.

At the time he was in one of the large neodeshas (I dont remember the dimensions off the top of my head) but was bumped up to something that was roughly 5x2x3, it was an odd size pvc set up I found locally.

Great snakes, but what is meant by "decent size" for a female? I have a young female who was a little flighty at first but she's calming down.

Maybe a dumb question, but what exactly is the stonewash morph? Does it enhance or mute the red pigment?

From what I understand its a recessive gene and it causes the colors to be more faded especially in the front half they look really cool!

@@theherpetoculturenetwork Yep yep, it's standard I know but his sister hasn't even thought about taking a nip. She's such a dream but him... nah. You handle him and you'll be bitten. He can be OK if you don't linger in front of him and guide him right. I have a young adult female too and she's nice. My adult male who is the largest of the bunch is a bit shifty too. They're all cool snakes though and I kinda like how they all have thieir own personality.

@The Herpetoculture Network There is such a thing as feeding smaller prey size and letting your snakes out to be active in a safe area and letting them get some exercise...I mean, all my snakes love exploring around my room. They enjoy some enrichment to get out and do some exploring. Several of my snakes come right up to me and crawl up my arm to come out when I open their enclosure. Of course if you keep them in a small tub or enclosure their whole lives and feed them large prey all the time they will get fat. I mean, that’s a given.
