Don't call me stupid but I think Rose was the only companion the Doctor really loved, while some may argue he loves River I think their marriage was a bit forced by River's behavior.

The Doctor may truly love River, but Rose will always be special to him. She helped his heart(s) to heal. She helped him to be compassionate and alive once again. I think at least one of his hearts (if not both) will always be filled by Rose.

I don’t think you’re stupid at all. The 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler definitely loved each other very much, and 10th was always hesitant to tell Rose how he loved her, such as during The Satan Pit, when 10th is about to ask one of the crew back on Sanctuary Base 6 that “if they talk to Rose, tell her…” however then brushes it off and says “oh she knows”. Once Doomsday happened, we now know The Doctor was about to have his last chance to say “I love you”, but only managed to say “Rose Tyler…” before losing contact with Rose and Parallel Earth. This is why The Doctor after losing Rose found it hard to connect to his assistants, for example Martha, as he was still grieving the loss of Rose and is scared to get too attached to new assistants, due to what happened with Rose. Sure, he became best friends with Donna, but that was after they had rocky start when they met.

THE LAST SHOT - I thought I was the only one who realised the parallel between The End of the world Rose on satellite 5 and Eleven on starship UK in beast below. Both were the end of episode 2 with a new Doctor and although they’ve done similar nods like this I’m glad others notice too
