Now add a little salt (like what may be on the surface of the multi box if you live near the sea like I do.... and BANG ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !. Fresh water doesn't conduct very well... Saline water kills. (guess which your blood and sweat is closest to...) I have a water blaster (I repair machinery) that pumped water through the pump body into the motor.. and only failed once the box on top was near full and the water shorted the 50mf capacitor. I was impressed at the high tide mark in the box showing the motor had been running under water for some time as it was the pump, forcing the water uphill and through the oil seals to get there (tap pressure was not enough as there is an air gap between the water system and oil, only moisture on the moving pistons pass through the seals (unless there was a cracked piston, and in this instance.. no)

A aron It still has the same effect. Tap water just has slight calcium added and less resistance. If he were to completely submerge the outlet (in use) in the tap water, the metal prongs and sockets would start to rust/corrode in the matter of minutes.

@SynthFrost not entirely true. I was spraying down walls at a restaurant, the one area had an outlet which previously had no power. @@dbutcher84 I saw something similar when I worked at a KFC a couple years ago. The manager was using a spray hose to wash down a stainless steel table that had been used to quick-thaw some raw chicken. I was walking past to get something from the back storage to stock the front counter when I saw some nasty looking smoke coming from between the table and the wall. Between the water and where he was standing, the manager didn't see it, so I pointed it out and asked if that was supposed to happen. We pulled the table away from the wall and found a live outlet in the wall that no one knew was there (the table apparently had been in that spot as long as that manager had worked there) and it was still spitting out smoke for about a minute. He finished the task with sanitizing rags and the next day he came in with those plastic safety caps you put into outlets to keep little kids safe and put them in all of the open outlets.

"Too much electrical resistance" sounds about right. Water conductivity depends on dissolved electrolytes, and purity of tap water can vary wildly from place to place. If your local water source depends mostly on rain or snow, it will indeed be as soft and pure as it gets. How easy is it to rinse soap off your hands with this water? At some point I spent a while in a place that got its water almost exclusively from snow. It almost drove me crazy that soap just won't rinse off (and it comes off so much easier if the water contains at least a bit of hardness -- calcium and magnesium salts).

But why you need salts tho? Soap has -OH ending which means it will easly disolve in water. Can you please explain me, i might be just stupid 😅.
@me.unpredictable2804 жыл бұрын
@@lukamarkovic8562 Soaps are heavy (C17H35COONa for example) as well as big in size, so they have less conductivity. Moreover, they need to be ionised. Only Ions (with overall charge not equal to zero) can conduct electricity, but soaps (common soaps like Sodium Stearate) are electrically neutral substances (there is a cationic part for every anionic part) and energy would be needed to ionise them, compared to NaCl which is generally ionised in aqueous solution. However, ionic soap solutions like liquid soaps are a good conductor of electricity.
@dinitroacetylen4 жыл бұрын
@@lukamarkovic8562 Soap was mentioned as a test for salt content. Usually in nature if water contains any salts, there would be some calcium and magnesium (so-called hardness salts). These bind easily to soap and it no longer feels as soap should. If water contains no hardness salts, soap has nothing to bind to and rinsing it off with such pure water is really tedious. And if water from some natural source contains no hardness salts as evidenced by the "soap test", then it most likely contains no salts at all, and would have very poor conductivity. Not that I encourage using such test to judge on safety of electricity near water, though.

@HVinduction4 жыл бұрын
No that has nothing to do with it. Also the neutral is grounded in most countries, so that is why you will get a shock if you are only touching the live wire. If you add a lot of salt to the water, it will act as a short circuit. The only thing that makes water conductive are ions.

2nolhta the reason that they die in bathtubs is because first the water is most likely mixed with soap so its MUCH more conductive and electricity will pass easier. Second is that the water is mostly grounded because of the plumming, so the live wire voltage will unfortunately pass from live of the hair dryer through the bathtub and his body and then to ground, which means he will get electrocuted. Plus in a bathtub your entire body is in water where as in the video he only puts his finger so less body exposed to high voltage

Most Basic UPS (The Big Black Box in the Video) can only supply power for a short period of time ( 5 mins max ) then when it's about to cut of it'll beep even more to warn you the battery bout to die . . . A UPS in simple terms its like a big power bank for household appliances, mostly computers and IOT devices tho . . . And it works by running those appliances of a inverter that is connected to a 12v battery that is being charged, When the city power goes your appliances keeps on running until you turn them off or the battery dies which ever one comes first

The "Cyber Power" unit he plugged the extension cable to is an Uninterrupted Power Source. The unit is detecting the fault current from the water, but it merely beeps a warning signal. Without the UPS unit, this would likely have tripped the fault current interrupter of the home installation. I know for sure that happened a few times when my water kettle spilled on an outlet.
