I do understand the Roman calendar based on this information, but am amazed that a society that could grasp this system would not have just numbered the days. Maybe ordinal numbers weren't a thing yet? I don't know that timeline. Interesting content today!

yes, this is exactly my idea as well. is there any evidence why they did it this way? or what is the assumption the scientist community is landing on?
