He does rock for sure. I'm shocked though that any musician has ever called him "the best in the world" while Neil Peart was still alive. I guess maybe it depends on the kind of music you're into. I'm big into the 90s alternative rock and even the newer Foo Fighters shit, love Grohl as a drummer and all around musician and Rush was WAAAAY before my time but Neil Peart was is the only drummer I've ever seen that jist didn't seem like he was from this world, sounded like he had 8 limbs at times. He's the drummer that all the best in the world wanted to be. Either way, Dave is a living legend.

Dave is an absolute living legend. As a musician but also as a person. I had the privilege of meeting him once. I worked as a cameraman for MTV, doing backstage interviews with some of the acts on a certain festival. We were there only for an hour or two, just to complete the 2 interviews we were supposed to shoot. At a certain point I was waiting for the artist to arrive and the interview to commence, staring in the distance, listening to the music on the main stage (I still remember, it was Dutch band "De Staat"), when suddenly Dave Grohl just sits down next to me asking me if I was having a good time, enjoying the festival. I was SHOCKED. Star struck. Litteraly on of the biggest artists in the world and he's asking ME if I'm having a good time? I'll never forget that moment. He is such a cool guy.

Kind of glosses over a cool story by just saying "Dave eventually formed the Foo Fighters". Dave created and recorded the entire debut album, solo. Wrote it all, played all the instruments himself, and put out a tape. One thing led to another, it got picked up, and when it was time to tour he finally assembled a band.

I'm not a fan of Foo Fighters (personally speaking - no disrespect intended), but he's a powerhouse of a drummer... So, I'll always appreciate his earlier contributions with Nirvana. They were the first "real" band I *really* connected with as I transitioned from my 10 year old, Madonna-obsessed "Pop Tart" to a more "precocious" 11 year old rock enthusiast. They were my "Gateway Group" - setting off something of a domino effect that lead me to Punk & Indie rock acts past & present, along with "DIY" ethos and non-Major Label options (I used to live for the mini catalogues that came in the CD liners of most of the now legendary "greats" (Sub Pop, K, Kill Rock Stars, Matador, Discord, etc... in the US; Creation & Factory in the UK - off the top of my head, although I'm knowingly neglecting to name check loads... It's past 1 am my time atm, I've been sick all week, & I'm on the verge of full collapse... My condolences...) Respect for playing a role in my "sonic homeschooling" & thanks for the memories x

@@pj4999 Yeah, he's talked mad crap about Dave Grohl in all sorts of interviews. Buzzo lately claims that the beef stems from a 2016 planned jam with the Melvins, Krist Novocelic, Dave Grohl, and David Yow (maybe some others?). Dave supposedly blew it off to go play with Paul McCartney instead. So, now he talks shit about Grohl every chance he gets. However, there are interviews going back before 2016 where Buzz expresses his disdain for Grohl, so I think Buzzo's just latching onto an easy event to blame on Grohl, especially as Krist Novocelic was involved too and he didn't say anything about Grohl standing them up. Buzz even admits that he tried to get Krist to just have them all show up at Dave's house, and Krist refused, so I think there's more to that story. Plus, the remaining members of Nirvana (Novocelic, Grohl, and Smear) all still jam together on the regular, so there definitely seems to be no beef with Grohl and Novocelic. It really does just sound like Buzz being sour they weren't as successful. It really saddens me, because I like both the bands and wanted them both to succeed. I believe Buzz himself is what held the Melvins back with his combative and self-aggrandizing behaviors, but that's just my opinion.

When your friends include Lemmy and Paul McCartney, when you've recorded an album with a member of Led Zeppelin, when you decide on a whim to make a Heavy Metal album for fun and get 11 legendary metal front-men to contribute, when you rise to a drum-off challenge with a ten-year-old girl, when you can have a veritable "Rock and Roll Who's-who?" fly to London and LA because you've asked them to play a tribute concert for your late-friend... It's fair to say you're universally beloved and have earned your moniker as the Nicest Man in Rock and Roll

Not mentioned was the time that John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page joined the Foo Fighters on stage and did Rock & Roll. I have a feeling that is what led to Them Crooked Vultures.

I personally REALLY like Dave Grohl. He has been MUCH MORE than a Good musician in every band that he has been in, and that I have heard. Now, when it comes to Kurt Cobain wanting to get rid of him from his position in Nirvana, I can only GUESS that IF that had actually been TRUE, I can only say that the most teensy weensy reason would POSSIBLY some jealousy and a inferiority complex that had just ran wild. BUT, I am NOT of the belief that KURT would have been SO jealous of Dave that he would REALLY get rid of him in Nirvana. Yet, I will tell you that both Kurt and Pat had been around when Dave had been kinda having some fun playing a guitar, and BOTH had said to each other something like "He's better than BOTH of us". Still, I think that Kurt was NOT going to fire Dave. It is also POSSIBLE that IF Kurt had turned against Dave That it just MIGHT have had to do Dave not getting along with Courtney Love, Kurt's wife. I do KNOW that Dave and Courtney did NOT get along, BUT, that could have only started after Kurt's death, so, if that had been the case, it would have most likely been just between Kurt and Dave when Kurt was alive. But, I will just say that IF Kurt really did NOT like Dave, and that it was known by how Kurt treated him, plus, if any bad blood existed, I mean IF it had been as simple as Kurt hearing Dave play guitar and KNOWING that Dave was GREAT on GUITAR as well as DRUMS. Basically, all of that had been known, Dave would have been "outta there". I mentioned the "jealousy" angle because Dave was GREAT on Guitar as well as drums. And, I am not sure IF I made that all clear before.

@@Andor. Really? I wonder why? I mean of NOT for the inferiority complex type of thing. I actually just bought the biography of Nirvana book tonight. I am not sure if that would be in the book though. I doubt it. It could have been over Dave not getting along with Courtney too. I know, I said that in my last comment already too. Maybe I can look and find a video where Dave talks about it?

If there is one thing that Kurt didn't have, was charisma. Maybe the guy was a genius on his own way, and was really the main guy on the grunge movement, but that dude didn't have any charisma. Probably because of the inner demons that he was fighting with. Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic had lots of charisma though. Unfortunately none of it rubbed on Kurt.

im sorry to admit i was never a HUGE Nirvana fan.............of course i loved every single song they would ever play....but i think it all stems back to a 'friend' i had who was COMPLETELY obsessed with Kurt, which really killed it for me....(this dude even stole his dad's credit card to buy a Fender Jag-stang!) which to us, his peers, came off as kinda pathetic.....when Cobain did himself in, he took it HARD...but we were all there for him....even still, just THAT kind of obsession is completely unhealthy, and is the sole reason i never got into Nirvana as much.....however....seeing Dave rise like a pheonix out of those ashes, i respect the shit outta him for that
