Used to work at Amazon as a delivery driver then got promoted up to Lead Dispatch and let me just say that working for Amazon sucks on both ends. As a driver you have to deal with making sure that you do whatever you can to finish your route. If you are falling behind slightly then you will get a call from dispatch asking why. Depending on the route you have also will decide how your day is going to go. If you have an apartment heavy route, meaning only apartments on your route, then your day is close to being ruined. The reason I say this is because Amazon loves to stack their stops sometimes, so even though you have 156 stops for the day you could have a lot more with Amazon grouping stops together, so you could have one stop on one side of the street and the other stop on the other side of the street, with it being 1 complete stop. So what could be 156 stops is actually over that amount. As a Lead Dispatcher, I did everything I could to make sure that I fought for my guys and voiced out a lot of concerns that I had for my drivers, however all Amazon cares about is how packages are getting delivered. Driver sprains ankle oh well how is that drivers route gonna be covered? Now you are forcing drivers whom already killed their own route having to go and take packages off the route that is behind or can’t be finished. You would think as the most profiting business in America that they would do a better job taking care of their workers.

On the flip side of the coin, for a lot of consumer goods companies, Amazon Prime Day is an important date in the calendar especially in Western Geographies where Amazon sales are significant revenue drivers. Prime day competes with other important dates such as black friday week, back to school period and christmas holidays. Please do not underestimate the amount of work and amount of crazy planning, investing, monitoring and analyzing (the results) being put to plan for the sales of these products that you are delivering. Prime day is rough...but the holiday season is a circle of hell. Our branch split half the drivers to work a 12pm-9pm shift for 10 weeks solid in dead winter in the hilliest area of the state. 20-30 degree weather at night and getting paid less because they gave us less packeges and forced us into part time so no gaurenteed pay hours. Not to mention that when I sprained my ankle, I was put on soft suspension so they could avoid paying me for 2 weeks while I was injured because their van step stool failed out on me. No sueing option since my manager would have to aprove it and he basically kept saying since it wasnt on camera it didnt count. Not to mention customers treat drivers like unironic slaves, yelling and screaming at us, making us wait while they call our managers, or blocking us in with cars and just seemingly trying to crash the vans on the highway with break checks and weaving. I quit without warning on week 2 of the night-shift changes. The company, the customers, the long hours low pay, it's not human.

I worked at fedex freight and I remember one time this really nice lady ordered this massive build it yourself patio thing. Weighed like 1300 pounds and wanted it in her garage. I normally gauge how much I am willing to help a customer by how they greet me and she was really nice so I put it in her garage with some effort but it was all worth it because she gave me a crisp 100 dollar bill. That is the most I have even been tipped for making deliveries.
@ToMaToEsGrOw Жыл бұрын
I would love to hear this story. Did you put the petal to the metal in reverse and just slam on the brakes and let the 1300 pound package fly into the garage?
@KillaManReaper2 Жыл бұрын
@@ToMaToEsGrOw Well thankfully I did not have to do that, though I did think about it. Her garage was not on a hill, so that helped a ton, the floor was also very flat and level so there were no uneven pieces of concrete I needed to roll over. The hardest part was the lip of the garage itself. My front two wheels on my pallet jack got stuck in the lip and there was no way I was going to push it out of that lip, so I lowered the pallet jack, went to the other side and pulled it in. Since the wheels from the other side went past the lip I pulled it until the got suck again and moved back to the other side and did that until the item was inside the garage.

The 16th was my first day at my DSP & idk how I feel about it lol. We deliver to Brooklyn and it’s nothing like how you do it. We load up like 20 packages/envelopes on a dolly and spend like an hour or two walking up and down the block. I think I’m going to apply to a DSP that delivers in NJ.

As a UPS preloader, I would love for them to adopt the tote system. The back of the truck gets so cluttered/full it's hard to keep packages organized for the drivers. We also had more people call in sick during prime week than usual. No repercussions though, thanks union. (I do generally side with the union though on most things)

I live near an Amazon facility, and I always yield to the delivery drivers at the roundabout so that they can get on their way. Good people with attitudes to match. Thanks for your work. Stay safe out there, everywhere you go. 😊

I’m certainly in the 1%, then. I always opt for the “when it gets here, it gets here” shipping option (which is typically the ‘free shipping’ option coincidentally), and never buy on or around Prime Day to not add crap to you drivers’ already-busy routes. Huge props to you drivers (and the warehouse/picker workers); it’s not a job type I could do anymore.

I'm picking at work rn, my Amazon Prime week went well. I picked a hell of a lot of items, my arm was hella sore on the last day. I voice an opinion a couple weeks ago about the fans being missing and cheap on the stations. Today I came in and they installed a bunch of small industrial fans on each station and they work very well I'm so happy about it. Today they also gave out sodas and hotdogs. It's been a good experience for me so far. Had MET as well. The 11 hours and 50 minute days was cool but the 5th extra day was rough. Overall I had no complaints. I got paid good! :)
