What an INSANE START! Zom 100 - S1E1 - Akira of the Dead

This is one of my all time favorite first episodes for a show. The parallels of him basically being a living zombie, the visuals getting darker and more monochrome as work progresses and then I love that he literally rips the black bars off the top and bottom of the screen turning the aspect ratio back to normal as the music picks up and the color floods back in. The cinematography, music, color usage all just so well done. Basically a perfect intro episode.

Zom100 is the first anime done by a new studio called Bug Films. The animators who started the company previously worked at OLM/ the studio behind every pokemon anime. They left OLM exact for the same reason as the MC of the show, that behind the toxic work culture/ over working

First episode was very well crafted, I could feel Akira’s depression and mundaneness. I also really liked how the blood and gore is handled in this show, I never seen it be so visually pretty 😂😂. Zom is going to be wild ride and I’m down for it.

I also went into this completely blind, and the first episode completely hooked me. The animation was way higher quality than I expected, and the story was really compelling. This show has a great balance of hitting you in the feels alongside goofy-ass shit. You'll enjoy it.

Dystopia, song of the dead-a! Dystopia, song of the dead-a! *Dystopia, song of the dead-a!* I love the intro song 😆 Never seen someone more keen for an apocalypse, but that was a pretty crappy job. This show is *gorgeous* tho, that animation is crisp! I love the whole scene with the plane going down, especially with that scene cutting back to him after his shoe drops. Chefs kiss 🤌

i was not expecting you all to react to this but i'm so glad you did, it's such a good zom show even if the company or whatever animating it isn't doing it perfectly. i read the manga way before it was announced that it was getting animated. i love how they did zom Ohtori though, even with the unfortunate annoying censoring they did zom her very well. can't wait for you all to see my fav human character from this in like the ep right after this

This plot is so realistic cause I can think about at least 20 times in which I hoped for a catastrophe or an apocalypse to strike in order to stop living in this society (but then I also think about how I'm a woman and I would probably just kill myself immediately during an apocalypse before something worst happened lol)

This was more than just the work culture. He was working for what they call a "black company". An exploitative company where the bosses coerce people to work those long hours. There's that little clip on the TV talking about the bullying in a black company being illegal.

Bear in mind girls, he worked at an EXPLOITIVE company. They exist but are rare and are usually shut down duo to health code violations. 9 to 5 is the norm in Japan. Correction: They do actually work very long shifts with very little paid overtime

Even in Japan what Akira was going through isn’t normal. His work is called a “black company” and it was mentioned in the episode twice. Sadly they do exist but most certainly not the average.

It’s coming back eventually, but: they went so hard with the animation they missed certain deadlines, and ultimately lost their TV time slots to other shows. It will continue once they’re able to air it on TV, except a few months delay minimum.

It was supposed to be done airing before this current season of shows even started; episode 12 should have aired on September 24, but the production team missed so many weeks that they were only up to episode 9 at that point, and then the new season of shows started and there was no longer a time slot for Zom 100. The only announcement that has been made is that the show is now on indefinite hiatus, with no word on when it will return, if ever.

You pretty much can't quit when you've only worked for less than 8 years on a company in japan. Because if you've quit too early, you'll have a very hard time finding other jobs because other comapnies will see your record and they'll think that you won't last long on their company because you'll probably eventually quit, so they won't hire you.

Culture in Japan really perpetuates those toxic work environments; I live in Japan and my wife is Japanese and we often but heads about work culture (and I’m even a bit of a workaholic). The “first love” line was just a poor translation (he just said “the woman I love”) Yep, the colors help with censorship because this aired at 5pm on Sundays (shocking to me). Unfortunately (pretty sure you all know since the Patreon is already past this point) but the anime went on indef hiatus because of the time slot and also the task of putting it together. This show is fun, sometimes sitcomish (which I like) so I hope it comes back soon.

Ya sucks its on indefinite hiatus, zom100 poking fun at black company's overworking rushed deadlines, only for its production studio to actually do that irl. New studio bit off more then it could chew sadly. the author was already in some hotwater with extremely poor writing for a female character a bit later on in the manga that he had to apologize to the fanbase, which discouraged me a bit from continuing on in the manga since the anime is dead no pun intended.

High school of the dead is pretty good. there's a lot of fan service though. And it was actual fan service, so it might be a bit much. Now days "fan service" in anime is just a female character having cleavage or something. But before like 2015, fan service in anime was constantly showing underwear and focusing on anatomy and stuff. Seems like there's not much of that now days. It's really rare. The story also never concludes in the anime because the creator passed away before he could finish. but if you can pass the excess fan service, it's pretty good. i would say its more action packed. honestly, Zom 100 might be better overall though. so far at least.
