The equivalent of the Cadians to the Scions. Hell have a thing from the wiki. "Their training is even more gruelling than that of the elite Imperial Storm Troopers (Kasrkin are the Cadian equivalent of the Storm Troopers) and they were utterly dedicated to the preservation of Cadia, whereas Imperial Storm Troopers are indoctrinated to provide for the defence of the entire Imperium of Man. Kasrkin soldiers were well-known amongst the Storm Trooper regiments assigned to Cadia, and are renowned for their ability to remain cool under fire in combat situations where even many other veteran Cadian Guardsmen would break." In Malleus, three Kasrkin tackled a demonhost in CQC, stabbing it with knives, because an Inquisitor would have been in their line of fire. It was a hopeless fight but they died in absolute glory. Brave lads to the end

For those who don’t know; I just learned after years of reading a lore, and playing imperial guard, that the tempestus scions are the stormtrooper regiment of the guard, and the school that trains them also give stormtrooper training to similar units, like grenadiers, but for cases like Cadia, they have their own training program of similar quality on world, usually more specialized to the need of that sector, which is where the Kasrkin fall into.

Scions are selected from and trained by the same Imperial Academy that trains Commissars. Rather, Scions *are* Commissars, just doubling as shock troops. Grenadiers, especially from Krieg, are trained on their homeworld. They wouldn’t send them to another planet, let alone organization, for a number of reasons, mainly their perceived sin, and the fact it’d break their whole “we can’t let the imperium know we send teenagers to die” thing. Kasrkin are literally just the best Cadia has to offer. They’re the “Fortress Kin” of Cadia, and they fight like it. It took 3 to kill a demonhost, and none of them so much as hesitated to die in the line of duty

This only really applies to regiments like krieg and is an over simplification. Cadians generally use pretty modern combined arms style tactics and their use of kasrkins shows they understand the value of special forces style mission sets

meh, thats more of a stereotype. While it is true that they CAN be used for such operations, most of times it's impossible. Orks and Tyranids outnumber average guard deployments, so their officers just have to be smart tacticians and strategists to win.

Imagine how good these soldiers would actually be. A lot of people think of the Imperial Guard as basic infantry grunts because the Imperium throws them away by the millions, but regular Guardsmen are the best troops from their homeworld. Governors can be executed for sending inferior troops. Planetary Defence Forces are basic infantry - the Imperial Guard must be Royal Marine Commando standard at least, maybe even special forces compared to anything we have now. Cadia is renowned as having the best troops from an Imperium with a million worlds. Cadians have been selectively bred as soldiers for 10,000 years and trained from birth. The guy in the office doing the filing and photocopying is probably a tank by modern standards. Kasrkin are the best of the best, from the best of the best military world, in the entire galaxy.

The soldiers can be the best, but I'd say the real issue is incompetent commanders who only know how to W+M1 with suicidal rush tactics rather than applying any real strategies to manipulate the ebb and flow of battle. Even the best tools are useless in the hands of an incompetent workman.

They are insanely good. But the guard looks bad bc of how insanely terrifying the imperiums enemies are. Literal daemons, orks the size of cars, the nids who have been designed over millennia to be killing machines, dark Eldar who get off on collecting souls and pain. Any of these enemies would have a field day with our combined armies of today. Regular imperial guardsmen are better protected than modern earth soldiers and better armed. But a human is so easy to kill to basically all of the imperiums enemies.

The Lucifer blacks of the 41st M. Are a somewhat watered down regiment of themselves, they are still an amazingly effective regiment but Iirc they are stationed on Terra as a defense force now. But if you talk about the Lucifer from the heresy era, they would eat the Karskins for breakfast and come back for seconds, the leader even met with Primarchs and didn't feel the trans human dread, that most humans got from seeing a space marine. And an unnamed Lucifer gave Jhon grammaticus trouble, who had at least 1000 years under his belt at this point serving the the techno wars on earth, and even helped his friend a more combat perpetual take down crazy Vulcan... The Lucifer nearly got the better of him and set off the whole camp alarms.

By that, Kasrkin are the 40k equivalent to Halo’s Spartans. Don’t matter which version of them, but probably the IIs since they’re taken as children. Contrast that with your “they’d be the ODSTs”, which isn’t even accurate. The Elysians would fit that bill since they specialize in drop assaults from behind enemy lines

Scions are the best the Guard has to offer. They’re Commissars that graduated from a different part of the Commissar school. Kasrkin are the best Cadia has to offer. Given, the entire culture of Cadia was a warrior based one, with pretty much every single person having been or currently serving the Imperium. To my knowledge it’s not entirely explained what level of enhancements Scions undergo, if any, but if they do posses them, they’re less extensive than the Kasrkins’. Since these guys are meant to defend their homeworld and the fortress cities from Chaos and all. Commissar Shock Troopers weren’t doing that daily

fun fact, the hotshot lasgun does not require a backpack to use. It simply extends the magazine even further than a standard hotshot magazine would allow. Sniper variants used by the guard are singleshot hotshot packs while other factions like Krieg can issue hotshot packs to their killteams that hold more than one shot. Really, the backpack is just a belt feed for a laser rifle.
