What are auction markets and how to easily participate in them on Zerodha?

In this video, we explain how you can easily participate in the auction markets and its benefits.
Whenever there is a short delivery in the markets, the exchange holds an auction to buy the shares from other market participants, typically at a higher price than the market price, and deliver them to the buyer.
Short delivery happens when the seller of the shares fails to deliver the shares to the exchanges to credit them to the buyer's demat account.

I bought SCI shares on 11th July at 327/- later it hit upper circuit on 11th itself, I placed a sell order on 11th July itself for 12th July at a price of 376/- using GTT. The gtt was triggered on 12th July around 0918hrs. When I checked for funds, no fund was transferred to the account, and later got to know that there was payout shortage on 11th July due to which I wasn't having shares to do BTST. Now although the shares are transferred to my account but SCI is around 280/- to 270/- which is even below my purchase price. Please advise who will bear this loss. On 12th July the share went up to 384.20/-.

Hi Naveen, in auction market, you can only place sell orders. If you wish to, you can buy these shares in normal market.

MY share in holdings showing BID option.is it there any problem ?will I get any penalty for this?

Hi, the exchange holds an auction for shares that are short-delivered and tries to buy them in the market. If you hold any shares that are eligible for selling in the auction market those will show here. It's up to you whether to sell them in the auction market or not.
