My strategy has always been to invest 25% of my income in the stock market at the beginning of each month. The second part of my strategy is not to sell for at least 5 years, but recently my portfolio has suffered major decline about $150k in losses. What can I do please?

Look for stocks that have paid steady, increasing dividends for years (or decades), and have not cut their dividends even during recessions. which may reduce your dividend gains or income, speaking to a certified market strategist can help with pointers

Our perceptions of your approach influence how we interpret, understand, and act on the truth. Getting into investing i stuck to Avoiding high interest debt. Cutting costs. spending less, earning more and investing passively The best way to find that balance between saving and living is by investing..what i can say to early investors is diversification and solid management this was how i got to my first million..at this point I'm actually grateful for my advisor Dianne Sarah Olson..

Some great points here on Real estate investing and having enough Healthcare cover. 58 year old here, having seen both the highs and lows of life. Your video does summarize some of my own learnings well. So I'm asking my son who is just entering the workforce to view this as a primer. I had the responsibility of covering my parents for their age-related illnesses which dragged on for more than a decade and something like that can wreck all your plans and future. Getting a private insurance cover before age 50 is helping me better cover myself for the future. We don't want to depend on our son. Also Mohit's point on when you can only fend for yourself is correct. Its different when you have to fend for wife, kids and parents versus just yourself, once kids are working and you no longer have parental responsibilities

Mohit Garg calculation is very much wrong. He said 15 yrs + 8 yrs + 3 yrs which in total coming to 26 yrs will get you a corpus of 3 crore if one invest 15k a month and gets 15 % in return on yoy, where as the actual amount will be 4,78,21,692.

@Sharan - Like what you do, but some feedback to improve it. First thing is you speak too much and not let your guest speak enough. Any interview when Host is speaking more than 25%, is usually not great, as we come here to listen to the Guest, who is an expert. Second thing is, Never interupt guest when he is still answering your question. He is an expert and we would like to listen to as much as he can talk. Last thing is, don't spend too much time in Summarizing what guest told. You can assume your listeners are Smart enough to understand what the guest says and we can save some minutes on that and use that to get more from Guest.

The more strategies you build n give suggestions. FM keeps adding more n more taxes. You are giving ideas for taxes n not for investments

I have one doubt. If I sell my small cap fund and buy large cap fund from the same money do I have to pay the capital gains on that also?? And if yes is there any way to save that tax?

Yes, you will have to pay the Capital Gains tax.

Saying that indians have a spending issue is such an insensitive and ignorant thing to say.. An average middle class family (which includes more than 80% of india) barely has 40 to 50 lakh as their total wealth. And 10% of 50 lakh is 5lakh.. 5 lakh mae toh shaadi bhi chod, ek baleno car bhi nahi milta..

I totally agree with 25-35 years MF advise but dont understand why to ignore real estate...even MF or stocks investments can go bad. HNIs do own properties as well as stocks...wealth is a combination of all asset class...its not like take only one..have a mix of instruments... have a crore in financial assets, having no house at all is meaning less in long term...the day one would realise this...these influencers would start promoting real estate

Real estate is good if you are lucky to acquire it when the price curve is at the low of that particular cycle. But most often your funds liquidity doesn't match with this, and you end up buying at the top of the price cycle. Then you are a sitting fuck praying for the price to go up. It is good if you are able to go through 2-3 cycles, but one lifetime is too short for it. Then, there are management problems and effective yield which can be lower than FD rates. This is from my own experience 😊
