Deleting units/buildings to lower your “owned” value doesn't earn you an event that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Losing units during the battle period can contribute to you getting a battle event (because your “Owned” value becomes -naturally- lower). For testing, I recommend using a trigger to display the relevant resources in the “short description” box. The relevant resources are and for the “Owned” value of Player 1. This will reveal non-intuitive things like starting TCs being worth 275 instead of 375 (no stone cost), or herdables contributing to your “Owned” Value. Assuming a fight against P2, the “Killed” resources are (worth double), and . Adjusting the cost of your own or enemy units, adjusting the damage/blast radius of your killer unit(s), and the speed of enemy units (to 0) allow for very controlled and repeatable tests.

Oh wow the actual explanation is surprisingly reasonable... I think what has been throwing people off is the fact battle event is always marked at least one minute AFTER actual battles occur, and in case of repeated engagements, it can be several minutes later. I think the game should keep current calculation BUT readjust things post factum by shifting the marker to when first engagements qualifying for the metric have occurred.

Yes, I agree. The funny thing is that if you get a battle event by destroying a wonder, the Wonder Destruction event displays at the proper time, but the Battle Event will be 1 minute later.

SotL has never been into actually deep math, if you truly followed him. He's memed as a math guy but he's more on casual level (but with perfect ASMR voice).

I am more familiar with his videos than with the AoE community's opinions of him. None of the math in this video is beyond what SotL has done on a regular basis. And I didn't even mention math in my comment. I don't know why you said this

@@olorinistar9903 it absolutely is beyond the scope of what SotL does. SotL never devised testing environment similar to what would allow finding out about this mystery. He simply does 1 on 1, balanced resources and medium size group fights, regardless of whether they actually fit the units he talks about or not. His videos are great, don't get me wrong (I also watched all of them), but this really isn't his type of content. T-West would be much more apt name to bring up. If you don't know why I mentioned math, I guess you simply don't understand the subject... Good grasp of math is necessary to even approach this subject, so you can come up with appropriate testing scenarios.

Wow I know now what these axes in the paragraphs means and its cool that the devs identified "battle events" in a 30 seconds mark if you think about it this means some huge army engaged another large army and one totally dominated the other so much so the other army got clapped so fast and hard that it vanished in 30 seconds... Ok so here is a suggestion for you admiral: A mini series of the "what if" that focuses on realistic aoe2 for example "what if archers could run out of arrows?" Or "what if soldiers had stamina bars?" Or "what if soldiers equipment needed maintenance like armor could break or swords could break causing -1 dmg etc" or "what if line of sight was more realistic like buildings blocking LOS etc" it would be really interesting to see how realistic aoe2 would play.

Watching this I have a semi-major unanswered question. You discussed 15% of your own total resources required. Is that 15% of your total resources from before the battle? After the battle? Or at some point inbetween. Because presumably even if it's a good trade overall you're still losing some units in return. If I had 1000 resources of stuff. But I lost 100 resources of my stuff during a possible battle event. Would I need to kill 150 or 135 resources of enemy stuff? Or something inbetween?

I mentioned this somewhat in my comment but could have been more specific. AFAICT the way to think about it is that the "Owned" measurement is from the beginning of the time slot BUT will be adjusted to accommodate your losses *in battle* at the end of the slot. So in your example, if you loose 100 during the time slot, 135 becomes your new target value (15%) during that slot. However creating or deleting units/buildings during the time slot does not seem to adjust the "Owned" measurement taken at the beginning. Hopefully that makes sense.

Yeah, that would be cool. In general I think the end screen/stats could use a lot of improvements that have already been implemented in other games and/or Capture Age. For battle events specifically, they might even play a toned down "victory" or battle sound in-game when you achieve one.

I think the format with time stamps is too inprecise and I think if you give a start and end, players will assume much much higher precision then the actual precision. I think a better solution is to put it at the mean timestamp

The other youtuber called Demon age of empries 2 is very jealous of oyu and cause we got in contact cause he made a vid of the mod we made for byzantine architecture he kept saying you sometimes mention him in your videos about the reskins and some balance videos and that you only do videos to earn cash and you try and steal content ideas just liek the reskin videos , to be honest i dont respect him anymore i must say i like your content a lot more and i think you would even do a way better job on explaining something and even showing mods like skins and stuf . thank you for your amazing work you put on these videos

That projection is expected, but as a rule I won't bother with critiquing other creators unless it can be mostly positive. And thank you for your comment, I have not forgotten your request and plan to feature your mod when I can. I have to balance with work and other videos, but I should be able to get to it within the next 2.5 weeks (by Mid-September at latest).
