I'm in the military and we are constantly trying to teach the Army Values. It's so difficult with the military being a reflection of society. Look at our society today. It can get frustrating.

What do you see at the similarities and differences between Ethics and Morals????

@Annika Hawkins Hi!!!!!!

I believe both are personal. Ethics is what you do and how you do it; morals is how you feel and how that drives your ethics.

Many years ago, I heard a speech by Chuck Colson called "Why Harvard can't teach ethics." Here's version of what he said: "In an era of relativism, nobody can teach ethics. The term derives from the Greek word ethos, which literally means a stable, hiding place, or cave-something absolute and unchanging. Morals, on the other hand, derives from mores, which are always changing as times change. We need to concern ourselves with ethics-the absolute truths of life, the rights and wrongs of human behavior, the codes we live by-instead of simply with morals, which are constantly changing. Ethics are what ought to be. Morals are what is..." Hope that you find it to be useful.

We say that we have a "Code of Ethics" but we don't say we have a "Code of Morals" because ethics are largely deontological, while morals are largely consequentialist.

It would be interesting to discuss the implications of moral shortcomings...

We do have a related video on Organizational Ethics that gets more into the costs of moral shortcomings a little bit. It's more about how to tackle these issues, but, sadly, almost all corporate scandals for the last 20 years (starting with Enron) have had ethical/moral failures at their center.

Ethics are a based a consensus, that are influenced by community and authority figure and religion. Morals are not some that has any outside influences. They are personal and are intuitive. Values are taught by caregiver or family.
