Yes people are terrified to stand in the light. But love to mock those who do. We are in the age of pathetic (egoism).

If you got a full scholarship to Harvard it’s not one upmanship. Full scholarship to Harvard is ONLY based on financial need, not merit. You’re telling the world you don’t have the money.
@alexanderlyonКүн бұрын
Ah, I didn't know that. Hopefully, most people watching will understand the intention of my example in the video. Still, I can't help but think many parents would still see a full scholarship as something to celebrate regardless of the criteria.

Howdy Alex. I came to this video looking for tips to help me in my job. I do call analytics and have trouble listening fully to our recorded calls. Any tips or suggestions on how to apply active listening in situations like this?
@alexanderlyonКүн бұрын
No, I don't have any tips for listening to recorded content. These videos (and my channel) deal almost entirely with face-to-face communication. I wouldn't know where to start on tips for staying engaged while listening to recordings. It's out of my area.

The "you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow" reminds me of Platos allegory of the cave. Very philosophical and accurate. Love this movie!

The submissive statements tip is useful. I never understood why self deprecation has been promoted to make you more "relatable". Maybe it's more applicable to people already at the top.
@alexanderlyon2 күн бұрын
Agreed. If there's a large power distance between the leader and the other people, leaders can make good use of self-deprecating humor. BUT (as you point out), it usually only makes you more relatable if you're already at the top.

Hello. Will you please share your source of the information that red herring were not used for hunting?
@alexanderlyon2 күн бұрын
The argument is, there is no evidence that it WAS used for hunting in real life because proving a negative is usually not the way arguments work. Either way, I'll give one source. I can't recall if it was the one I read to prepare for this because it was a while ago. But here's what I just found after about 10 seconds of searching on Google: www.worldwidewords.org/articles/herring.htm

Pathos/ pathetic - Is the worst kind of communication where you appeal to emotion instead of using logical arguments or actually provide evidence for your statement.
@RiaG7773 күн бұрын
Love these points. It’s hard to contribute consistently in meetings when you have that person who constantly talks over others, dominates conversations, and does not give others a chance.
@alexanderlyon3 күн бұрын
Agreed. That habit of constantly talking is one of the bad habits from the video before this one about the 8 behaviors to avoid. It can ruin a meeting completely.
