Very well explained. Crisp and clear - Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You should be doing more of these brother, pick up something hard to understand for most and simplify as you did here.

2:07 The colors have nothing to do with sharpness OR contrast, both of them are on the same scale for contrast. Both of them just show a contrast ratio which is the same thing as sharpness. The more contrast an edge has, the sharper it is. The difference is the resolution of the test chart. On Sigmas MTF chart that is 10 Line Pairs per Millimeter in red and 30 LP/mm in green. Here you have to use the one that is closest to your sensors pixel pitch. Here it also matters if you got a monochromatic sensor or a clolored one with Bayer pattern. An A7 III has a pixel pitch of 5,91 µm that equates to roughly 20 LP/mm on a color sensor so the contrast ratio you well get on that camera will be between the red and green lines. If you have an A6500 for example, the pixel pitch is at 3,92 µm or a little over 30 LP/mm. On that camera the green line is pretty accurate. These values for LP/mm are also more real life values. The higher the test resolution, the more accurate it is. If you had an optically perfect lens, you would need to test it at ~40 LP/mm on the A7 and ~60 LP/mm on the A6500. If both of them had a monochromatic sensor, the perfect values would be and 60 LP/mm and 90 LP/mm. This is also the reason why these MTF charts from the manufacturere (at least from Sigma) dont really help much, third party test from lensrentals for example get tested with 10, 20 , 30, 40 and 50 LP/mm. This will show the sharpness performance much more accurate.
