M23 fighters have pledged to leave Rumangabo in Democratic Republic of Congo.
But the Congolese army says an earlier promise to quit another town, Kibumba has not happened.
Conflict has forced many people to flee and a UN investigation found widespread human rights abuses.
Millions of people have died from violence in the region since the 1990s according to some estimates.
So what are the prospects for a lasting peace?

EACRF is applying what is called "big stick diplomacy". That is, to negotiate peacefully but maintain incredible strength in order to exert and enforce peace and security if obligated by the situation. In other words as Roosevelt put it "speak softly and carry a big stick" . So far, this strategy seems to be working for the EACRF in eastern DRC.

Hope you are not serious! Negociate with rebels? Not like we've never done that, we actually have. And Museveni and Kagame keep on changing names of the rebel groups after a short period of withdrawal, what a joke. They used to do this when they had their man in power in the D.R.Congo. Their time is over now that the old regime is gone and our president is Congolese. We don't have any excuses as the "embargo" notification that used to prevent us from buying weapons has been lifted. You see, Congo is a very diverse country in terms of its ethnic makeup, political affiliations, and even religious beliefs. Some were occupying the regions where they are in Congo even before colonialism. Tutsis, Hutus, Banyamulenge. But there are also lots of Tutsis and Hutus who sought refuge in DRC during the waves of unrest that occurred in that region including the Rwandan genocide. It doesn't hurt to acknowledge the existence of the two situations as you set about resolving them. We are tired if that endless bloodletting in Eastern DRC. So much potential is going to waste.

I don't think it will solve anything as long as Rwanda is a major cause of this conflict n Hutu genociders are in kivu..it's complex.. issue..kagame n his m23 have to first let go then the Hutus militia demobilized n all rwandese leave congo .then strengthen the Congolese army...but then comea western greed for minerals..its a complex web
