The Carretera de la Muerte - the road of death- is one of the most dangerous roads in the world. Year after year many people die here. We accompany trucker Omar and his co-driver Jaime on their trip across the Andes, encountering cyclists, mountain bikers, and coca farmers on the way. Some fun and not so fun facts about Bolivia 🇧🇴 1. Bolivia's Yungas Road was called the "world's most dangerous road" by the Inter-American Development Bank, called (El Camino de la Muerte) in Spanish. The northern portion of the road, much of it unpaved and without guardrails, was cut into the Cordillera Oriental Mountain in the 1930s. 2. Bolivia is a landlocked country located in western-central South America. The constitutional capital is Sucre, while the seat of government and executive capital is La Paz. 3. Its geography varies from the peaks of the Andes in the West to the Eastern Lowlands, situated within the Amazon basin. It is bordered to the north and east by Brazil, to the southeast by Paraguay, to the south by Argentina, to the southwest by Chile, and to the northwest by Peru. 4. Before Spanish colonization, the Andean region of Bolivia was part of the Inca Empire, while the northern and eastern lowlands were inhabited by independent tribes. Spanish conquistadors arriving from Cusco and Asunción took control of the region in the 16th century. 5. Bolivia is named after Simón Bolívar, a Venezuelan leader in the Spanish-American wars of independence. 6. The United States Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) financed and trained the Bolivian military dictatorship in the 1960s. The revolutionary leader Che Guevara was killed by a team of CIA officers and members of the Bolivian Army on 9 October 1967, in Bolivia. I must say I have so much respect for all the drivers of this dangerous road. I’m just an American watching from my couch on KZbin on my cell phone realizing just how spoiled and blessed I am when watching a video like this and it makes me feel humble to say the least. Again, much respect to all of you driving these roads and living a life so many couldn’t do. Thank you for showing the world what you do and sacrifice everyday but also, thank you so showing us the beauty of your country.

I was on that road in 1976. There were chickens flying around our passenger bus. The bus got a flat and he had no jack so we had to dig a hole under the bus by hand and prop it up with rocks to change the tire. Lots of Catholic style little memorials along the way. I was too young (about 19) to recognize the danger and through if was a beautiful scenic drive. At one point I looked out the window and directly next to our bus was about a 500 ft straight cliff drop and I did see crashed trucks and vehicles down at the bottom. I am almost 70 now and have vivid visual memories of that road often through the years.

I like the way in which Omar blesses himself before he starts his truck moving [@ 2:33]. We should all do this when we get into a car. Unless we are unlucky enough to be called to fight a war, driving is the most dangerous thing we will ever do. God's blessing is a neccessity!

Bathing in the water spring, commemorating the dead with children praying in exchange for baked goodies, the cyclists enjoying the adrenaline fueled trip, drone shots, how the driver uses mishaps like a flat tire to relax instead of worry , these are my favorite parts. I loved watching the videos feature of South American countries. The last one I enjoyed was Ecuador. And now Bolivia is an addition. I loved also the similarity of their Catholic practices in my country Philippines. Keep up the good work!

Excelente documental, y hermosamente filmado. Saludos desde Buenos Aires, Argentina.
