The Ukrainian army said it has made major gains over the last day around the port city of Kherson, after Russia announced its withdrawal from the southern city.
Ukrainian troops have reportedly taken back the key town of Snihurivka, 50km (30 miles) to the north of Kherson.
Kyiv has also claimed big pushes on two fronts near Kherson, including advances of 7km in some places.
Russia said it has started to exit the city - its top gain in the invasion - but the process could take weeks.

It's official line of Russian propaganda. For your information: Russia has never lost to anyone. Russia has never attacked anyone, it only ever defended itself. Russian people are very good-natured and kind people, and because of this others envy them and want to destroy Russia. And, of course, the God is on their side.

Nothing bad will happen to her, don’t worry, some people in Russia have this opinion, but most like Putin because he care about Russia well being and safety. Ukraine got half land from Russia during Soviets without any fight, in a good will of joining together, with Russians on it. Before that Ukrainians didn’t have their own municipality. Then Ukraine insisted to keep the land when Soviet Union collapsed, but turned it’s back on Russia, when Russia was poor. The last drop was Ukrainian coup d’étar in 2014 leading to UkraNization and bringing nato to Russian border. Some very bad decisions in life.

@@kkiissssiikk Putin doesn't care about Russia, only himself. Russia's reputation will be damaged for years to come because of what he's done to Ukraine. There are Nazis in all parts of the world, sadly. Russia looks more like a facist, Nazi state than ever Ukraine did. No-one believes the de-nazification rubbish that Putin and lavarov spout. Putin has brought more countries to NATO through his actions, when it was only Ukraine requesting membership, before. Some very bad decisions from Putin, indeed.

@@robiny9457 every decent country outlaw Nazi organisations. Only in Ukraine there are Nazi battalions who are sponsored by state and part of National Guard. Collective West was always Russophobic, and Ukraine is not first and only war on this planet. 🤷🏻‍♀️So, don’t worry about your Russophobia preaching. All politicians care about themselves and very corrupt. Ukraine is most corrupt country in Europe. You should research ftx, barisma, and so. No more countries joined nato, they will not be accepted.

@@kkiissssiikk indeed, Nazis are scum, and are outlawed everywhere, yet they still exist. Why would a Jewish president fund Nazis? How does that make any sense at all? Again, the only country that is displaying nazi traits in this war is Russia. Even down to the symbol painted on military vehicles. The west isn't russia-phobic, only Putin phobic . he has proved , time after time, that he can never be trusted. "I'm not going to invade Ukraine" he said. The russian people are innocent of Putin's war, but are arrested if they disagree with it. What kind of country does that to its people? There is no good outcome to this invasion. Not for anyone. I hope, one day, for peace and stability in Russia, and its neighbours. However, that will never be, whilst Putin is in power. Only violence, suspicion and hatred will thrive under him.

Watching Russian TV is very interesting. We assume it’s full of anti-West drum-beating. But (prior to this nonsense) it’s strangely apolitical. Putin appears on TV in a ceremony to give out scholarship awards, or something like that. There are so many of these kinds of things, engineered to create this narrative of him as a kindly and caring man of the people. This is what military analyst Anders Puck Nielsen (whose videos everyone should watch) was talking about earlier in the war when he said that mobilization was going to be a problem for Putin. He’s worked very hard to get the citizens of Russia not to care about politics (it’s illegal to criticize him, so he can sort of afford to just say a thing softly once and leave it at that). But in Russia, everybody actually does believe he is that caring person. You and I know better. But the Russians mostly don’t. Very strange. At some point the narrative has to break down though. I think it’s beginning now.

I think you have to be careful to write them off. They were killed in droves in the early part of their involvement in WW2 and then they fell upon their enemy like an avalanche beating the Allies to Berlin (which was quite some feat as Gen. George Patton was itching to get there and he was no slouch!). They do not look strong at the moment however and the Ukrainians are punching way above their weight which is very impressive.

Russia has no wish and clearly no ability to expand into NATO territory. Their actions, whilst clearly wrong, are aimed at shoring up their vital security interests as they perceive them, including and especially their control of Crimea. This war would not have happened if it wasn't for the fateful combination of NATO expansionism, anti-Russian Ukranian nationalism and US efforts to establish Ukraine as a proxy state on Russia's border. Having lost 13 million in WWII the Russian's are deeply fearful about the prospect of a further invasion through Ukraine and missiles pointed at them from close by Eastern European countries. However, rather than taking their legitimate security concerns seriously the West carried on dismissing them and undermining their security interests, and this war has been the tragic consequence. Watch "Why Ukraine is the West's Fault" - a lecture by Professor John Mearsheimer of 7 years ago which correctly predicted the current tragedy and read How the West Brought War to Ukraine: How US and NATO Policies Led to Crisis, War and the Risk of Nuclear Catastrophe by Benjamin Abelow. The facts are there for anyone with a sufficiently open mind to consider them.

For being an influential nuclear military power, I am shocked in the incompetence of Russia. The piece missing in this viewpoint from a knowledgeable serviceman, is the political posturing behind Putin's invasion. From what I understand, Putin didn't expect resistance. The column was an intimidatory measure that didn't expect to be caught up in a fire fight. Like many authoritarian leaders before him, he let his arrogance rule his decisions. Yes men in Ukraine were telling him his army would be welcomed as liberators and the government would flee to exile. Now with a reputation of the uncompromising tough man, Putin has no easy out, except from a well placed bullet, or polonium smeared on his toilet paper. I'm sure he'll find sleep uncomfortable.

I think, unfortunately, that you are completely right. The Russians have shown nothing but destructiveness and hate ( and, fortunately some incompetence too) They are likely to do to Kherson ( having looted it of its treasures) the same as they did to Mariupol.... that is shell it until there's nothing, and nobody, left. I hopoe the Ukrainians have the weapons they need to destroy the orc rear areas and to take out these barbarian Ruzzians.

isten to me bro. I hope u will read it till the end. As for the WW2. Won only because of lend lease? Are you crazy? You dont even know the price of its victory for our grandfathers. Watch it: Millions of german soldiers, thousands of planes, tanks and artillery crossed our boarder in 1941. The power of germans at that time was so powerful that none of european countries would manage to survive under that. None! None of the countries in that world couldnt even imagine fighting with such a great number of german divisions which the ussr fought during 41-45. And what do we see? We managed to mobilize our society, produce new tanks, planes and liberate our land. AND LIBERATE A LOT OF EUROPEAN COUNTRIES TOO WHAT COSTED MILLIONS OF LIVES of our soldiers. And finally conquered Berlin. You said that we have the majority of losses. Bro wake up, of course we have, i dunno the european country where you live but i know that during ww2 it was rather occupied in 1 week our didnt participate in the war. Do you know about "Building of Pavlov"? Read it on the internet. While huge France surrendered in just a month, Pavlov with his soldiers where fighting in a surrounded building for months and they didnt surrender this house. The germans didnt manage to cath this building. We were fighting for 4 years with the most powerful nacizm troops in our territory and in europe. We broke the german machine. Germans troops made terror in our territories, they killed a lot of peaceful citizens and took a lot of people to slavery. Of course we have huge looses. But in contrast to europe we didnt surrender and won. And the useless lend lease didnt make up even 2 per cent in our victory.
