I thought the same thing! Tbh amber relic and dusk relic do look a lot like yin Yang Which is really symbolic for skyward sword The battle between Light (hylia) and darkness(darkness) Whenever there is light there is always darkness meaning hyrule is prosperous but it is bound to be destroyed by demise’s malice and hatred incarnate (ganon/ganondorf) hence making this timeless battle in ‘balance’ Which is basically what the principle of yin Yang “yin and yang is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes how obviously opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another” And this further proven in skyward sword If you see Fi’s and Ghirahim’s character design You see how similar they look Both are spirit of the swords and assist their respective masters Even demise’s sword looks like a darker version of the master sword Both Demise and Hylia are timeless creatures They both have control over time (If you Z target Demise in his boss fight and ask Fi They will say something along the lines of “This eternal being has conquered time itself. It is the source of all monsters”)

When I saw the Amber Relics first time when playing Skyward Sword, I immediately thought about the Moon Tear from Majora's mask. The shape is similar, but without the hole in it and instead marked with a darker star on each side where the hole is supposed to be. This is interesting, 'cause it made me think that the Amber Relics was Goddess Hylia's tears. Amber Relic, representing the happy tears that she shed of pride, warmth and love across the land where it's common (Compared to Yang - which is the sun and heaven, representing light, warmth and the rivers that connects everything). And then the Dusk Relic, representing worried or sad tears, since the realm is there to test and prepare the hero for the darkness he is about to face (Compared to Yin - which is the earth and moon, representing the dark and cold but also the mountain and skeleton - also seen as foundations, which is the purpose of the realm: Lay down the foundation for the hero). But the question remains if the Moon Tear is related to these relics and is it something crafted by Hylia herself? What is the Moon Tear if not also a reference to a Magatama?

Culturally speaking it is very similar to the "Magatama Amber" in this video. The One Hit Obliterator is just a "gohei". A gohei is a scepter covered in sacred pieces of paper called "shido", who are used in shinto rituals to purge or cleanse evil spirits or intentions. Hence why the Zelda universe version of it can defeat monsters in one swing. The fact that it was created by a Sheikah, with their clearly eastern inspired culture and habits is just another indication.

Actually the shadow and spirit temple color schemes also follow this trend: purple and amber respectively. The Shiekah/royal family and Ganondorf and Gerudo. Two sides of the same coin. Both sides capable of terrible acts. One tested your loyalty; even after everything you've seen, can you still love and trust the royal family? the other making you realize the other side is maliciously being manipulated into causing trouble; after finding out the truth, can you really hate them and turn your back on them, when they are just like you? A victim of Ganondorf? If you pay attention, Ganondorf's theme starts low and ascends, and king of hyrule (more noticeable in Wind Waker's version) starts higher then descends, and the length of the notes themselves are also nearly the same. You saw the truth of both sides, and that no one is as truly evil as ganondorf. The Gerudo themselves are not inherently evil, but the royal family is not inherently good.

The Kokiri Emerald from OoT also has a similar curved shape to the amber relic, and my brain connected the amber (fossilized resin) to the Deku Tree. Though the real world magatama influence takes this in a totally different and stronger direction, I still like the idea of a guardian deity like the Deku Tree being a related reference to further reinforce the sacred nature of the relics.

Have you looked into a possible connection between the evil crystals from this game and the malice in BotW? The "malice" in the description of the evil crystals and the clear color parallels to Calamity Ganon's malice are definitely interesting, plus it seems like there's a live mass of the stuff holding Koloktos together, which is very different from the other game bosses.

I'll be honest - I haven't had the opportunity to play Skyward Sword, so I could be monstrously offbase with this theory, but here goes: What if the Amber Relics are the result of Hylia's first attempt to save people? And the Dusk Relics are her second try? Because if she tried to give her People protective amulets that failed, there would probably be a lot of them, and there probably wouldn't be any bodies left. And if she tried to save them a second time by bringing her people to herself, that might explain why they're now Dusk Relics? I do have a second theory, though: What if the Amber Relics weren't Hylia's first effort to save her people but the effort of the First Deku Tree (or something similar). That sure looks like a big tree in both realms. That big tree looks like it could've had a lot of sap. If the tree was starting to gain a hint of sentience, maybe it tried to offer its amber as protection to the people, but in the face of Demise, the failure was absolute. Since Hylia is pretty sentimental (why else would she keep protecting her People, after all), perhaps she created the Dusk Relics as a way to remind herself that she had to be proactive in her defense, lest lesser shields shatter and her People suffer? I dunno. It's 3AM.

I've found a reference that says that purple magatama represent soul or spirit which makes a lot of sense considering the Dusk Relics are only found in the Silent Realm which acts as a trial of the spirit for the goddess's chosen hero. The same reference said that orange ones represent guts or persistence which would make sense since the Amber Relics found everywhere throughout your journey.

I wonder if the shape of the magatama has any relationship to the yin yang? Especially since the amber variant seems to be created from light (as when Zelda encases herself in it) and the dusk variant seems to be representative of darkness (with the silent trials taking on a more nightful atmosphere and being called "dusk" relics). The yin yang is related to the belief of light and darkness being necessary for each other, which would be an interesting topic to delve into in Skyward Sword.

We have the Yin and Yang duality of random trinkets found in areas where the Hero grows in Body&Soul, and artifacts allegedly left behind by Hylia and Demise themselves. ...then the mechanic guy who just goes, “hey I can build something with that!” but it isn’t ever clear how he uses random gemstones and plants to upgrade Link’s gear and key items. (The monster parts make somewhat sense-bone, blood, keratin, and slimes are still used in industrial materials.)

I always thought of the magatama shape as a nod to the developers of "Okami" also, since it was influenced by the Zelda series, and Amaterasu wore them as a weapon in game. Even an Amaterasu / TP Wolf Link connection

You know what would be awesome? Lanayru mining facility in Breath of the Wild 2. The game at the most recent end of the timeline where Link explores a place so old that it was considered ancient in the earliest part of the timeline. That would be one of the biggest civilization gaps in all of gaming. Also I'd prefer it over something like "a temple the goddess made while she was still around" Because that just seems like a cheap way to make a most ancient thing.
