He did mistakes in the process, but probably if not him we would still think Troy didn't exist. People are people, and if we are gonna dismiss every deed and consider it bad and better-not-to-happen if it has some flaws, then what is the point of taking any risk or trying to change the world? If all you do just mets with people calling your work bad and evil for not being the best possible?

A nonmorbid one: back in the late 70s, for a few weeks a song called Ready n Steady appeared on Billboard's "Bubbling Under" chart (for songs that are just outside the Hot 100). Thing was ... nobody knew the song. Nobody had heard of the artist. Nobody could trace the record label. Even a noted music historian who had a collection of *every single song to ever appear on the Hot 100 charts* couldn't find any sign of it. People doubted if the song had ever even existed and IIRC someone offered a prize for any information about it. Turns out the song had indeed been written and recorded but was never pressed for commercial release (the "record label" was more of a legal fiction that only existed on paper); it had only ever sneaked onto that chart because some guy at a local radio station took a fancy to it. It was finally dug up in 2016 thanks to someone looking up the copyright and tracking down one of the original songwriters (the other had since died). It now holds a unique status as the one single to chart without ever having been commercially released.

If I remember correctly, the Legend of the City of Gold was started by some dudes who'd literally just already found the real one... allow me to explain: not all cultures place monetary value on gold. For some it was just a soft metal that was good for jewelery & for one South American tribe that meant it was good for religious sacrifices. So Concistadors found some people dumping gold into a lake & decided that if their just throwing it away, they must have more than they could ever need... So, when they didn't find that much gold at the bottom of the lake (there was a lot) and almost none in the surrounding settlements (again, they did not give a fuck about gold outside of religious ceremony) they decided they *weren't* wrong & surely the golden city of their dreams was out there somewhere! So yeah, it's ye olden conspiracy theory. Some things don't change 🤓

The deaths of the Romanov family always interests me! Not just the circumstances (that it took a WHILE for the daughters to die because they had jewels stitched into their clothes which made it hard for bullets to penetrate) but also how it's actually one of the older sisters (most likely Maria) that was found separate with Alexei, not Anastasia as popular myth goes. And of course, I love how the monarchy line remains very present today and can be traced back centuries. And, of course, the conspiracies of if someone really did survive. There were multiple instances of people faking their identity but one that stands out to me was a Russian soldier who was potentially Alexei, he was around the same age and he apparently had hemophilia (the blood disorder rampant in the Royal line at that time) and mysteriously disappeared. Of course, the remains have all been DNA tested but it'll always be interesting to see the conspiracies around their deaths and bodies, especially since I think the church currently keeps Alexei and Maria's remains separate from the rest of the family's for further DNA testing....

There were several cities of Troy. Around 9 have been discovered. All built on top of the same site. It began as a small village/camp and continued to expand and rebuild over again. The one we think of in the myth is the 7th city, which had the huge walls and was likely the most developed city. The myth of the wooden horse may have been a mistranslation or misinterpretation of the story. Some scholars believe that Greek warriors managed to subdue some Hittite riders (the only people in the region who rode horses at the time), took their clothes and horses, then proceeded to pretend to be the allied Hittites to gain access to Troy. Then, during the night, they opened the gates allowing the Greek army inside. Speculation but interesting theories.

There was a very obscure locomotive that was built for the Lancaster and Chester railroad by General Electric numbered 63. This was a UB6 export locomotive that was sent to the L&C in mid 1959 to supplement their GE 70tonners, it worked for about 4 months before being sent back to General Electric. GE renumbered it 19 105, gave it new builders plates saying it had been built in 1960 instead of 1959, and sent it off to the Philippines. Every sorce on the locomotive said it was sold to the Philippines National Railroad, it wasn't, that railroad had no U6B numbered 105, instead it was sold to the Panya Railroad where it worked and was subsequently scrapped before the 1990s TLDR: General Electric gave a US railroad a export locomotive to supplement that lines other locomotive while being fixed. It was sent back to GE and sent to the Panya Railway

People have said for years that the Lost Colony of Roanoke has been solved by DNA testing. Thing is where are the people they matched to? It's always somebody knows somebody that heard about somebody else but can't remember the name. I think they went to the local tribes for help but were killed. The local tribes were either hostile or had been backstabbed by the colonists previously. They had no reason to trust the colonists or want to take them in. Rather than waste resources that were already stretched thin on people they don't like they would have just killed them.

Just an aside..You're making assumptions about native American relationships with colonists. The local tribes had never been backstabbed (there had been no previous colonies)..and had complex interrelationships between the various tribes which put colonists at odds with some if they were friendly with others. You might try looking up the actual early history instead of making assumptions that the natives were suckers. Even the purchase of Manhattan wasn't cheap..those "trinkets and beads" were worth a lot of money at the time..and the Dutch were suckered by the first tribe since they didn't own it to sell it and it had to be purchased a second time from the tribe that did own it.

The Lost Colony is something I have heard about since I was a kid. I find it fascinating since it's part of my state's history. Has it been documented by scholarly sources that some of the tribes were hostile? Yes. They were hostile to ALL outsiders whether they were from Europe or another local tribe. Were some of the locals mistreated by the colonists? Yes. It's part of the written records of the colony that they pulled some dumbass moves on the natives including murder. John White himself spoke of this after he returned to England. And finally stop painting Native Americans as idiots that are just dying to be victimized. It's people like you, always wanting drama, who treat Native Americans like nothing more than willing victims. You seem to think the natives the European settlers first met only had the mental capacity of young children. They were as were smart as anyone of any culture alive today. You need to grow up and stop defending people that you see as being less than yourself. You're actually being insulting. When they need your help they'll ask for it.

You also have to take on the account it's more than likely most of the colonists probably died. Perhaps only a handful survived and early colonist relations were not as strained yet as this was earlier day, before Independence. So taking in a few starving people wasn't unheard of. Equally, many of the tribes on the coast were already part European. A mixture of Norse and Welsh. They simply integrated with the tribes. Third, which isn't talked about much, but about 90% of Native Americans, especially in North America, would die from things like small pox in later years. All you have to do is look at South America, where generally the population is about 40% European, 40% Native, and 20% African. There are various mixes depending on the country and location, but the integration was much more apparent, partly due to the fact they were able to survive illnesses brought by rats and such.
