If the definition is not important how can we understand what a stakeholder is? The very definition explains what a stake holder is. In my point of view, stake holders are the people who hold the stake!, the big piece of value, that could be money - information - technology - knowhow etc... the value holder or the stake holder, is the person that hold the value that is valuable to a company - group - organization.

There are some bad consecuences for having diferents profiles as a stakeholder. For example, a company's customers are entitled to fair trading practices but they are not entitled to the same welfare as the company's employees. Even if a company only accept a duty with its shareholders, directors and managers of the company may or may not have moral obligations with any other person, organization or society.
