interesting thing: In Bloodborne, the first enemy you come across is already damaged, not due to the dead man, but because it was the one that tried to attack you in the intro cutscene. The one that was lit on fire. And that is how it was damaged.

There's a few theories about the grafted Scion, actually. 1. He's there specifically to collect your corpse, so Godrick can add your limbs to the pile. This has to do with the other theory that The Tarnished is actually one of Marika's children, namely the crypts found in the moving mausoleums. In this case, your character lacks the protection of a turtle mountain, so he thought easy pickings. Especially possible if the other theory that the tarnished is Godwyn's twin, and he figures you might have that 'best of the demi gods' trait going. 2. It's there specifically as your warden. While your grave has a distinction of not having a giant turtle mountain guardian, it is cut off and requiring a gate to get there. This might be one of the first indications of a Gaol, minus a stone circle entrance way. The Scion is there to make sure you stay dead, as your crimes were heinous enough for it. But apparently not quit on par with the Dung Eater, who has an entire fun house dedicated to his crimes. 3. He's your assassin. While you have no repute as far as some are concerned, you have an island tomb to yourself. Maybe Godrick was aware of you, and sent it there just in case, knowing you would be at your weakest upon awakening. Especially given when you awaken, you're very far away from where you woke up, meaning it tossed your corpse into the ocean to let it be fish food... only, you weren't fully dead But really, he's just there to make sure you know how to die. Hell, even beating him, the only thing that happens is a bridge falls down.

So... DS1: A morbidly obese demon DS2: The piglets DS3: A (Hollowed) cleric trying to prevent the dead from reviving Elden Ring: Grafted Scion Bloodborne: Werewolf Demon Souls: Another morbidly obese demon And yet somehow out of all of these, I think the piglets are the most intimidating simply because they attack you in the game's hub area and are so small and hard to hit. That being said, undead hollow in DS1 solos, he's just being nice and letting new undead pass because he hopes that one day he'll have an actual challenge. The reason why yhe Grafted Scion ambushes you is because Godrick hunts Tarnished to use their limbs for grafting. Put two and two together, the Scion is there to kill you and take you back to Stormveil to be used for grafting. I didn't beat the Grafted Scion the first time, when I first started playing Elden Ring. But I have beaten him before the tutorial, without being in NG+, on other characters. The easiest way to do this, would be to start as the samurai and use the bow. Otherwise, if you grind and learn the parry timings of these guys, one could also just parry him repeatedly.
@IdToasterАй бұрын
Vagabond and Confessor have Square Off on their starting weapons so they're also good candidates. First time I beat him on a fresh character was a Warrior, and those dual curved swords certainly helped. I've gone back and beaten him on a fresh character for every class by now though, so they're all doable. IIRC, I think the hardest time I had was an Astrologer; you don't have enough blue juice to blast him off the table and your backup weapon and HP aren't very encouraging.

@@thatgamingkiwi1630 can and do mean different things believe it or not.

@@thatgamingkiwi1630 As I recall, there are a handful of areas at the start. -Chapel of Anticipation (The area you first wake up in) -Cave of Knowledge (Tutorial Area) -Fringefolk Hero’s Grave (Stonesword Key Door) -The First Step (Hi, Varre) It’s the Hero’s Grave that intrigues me. Technically you can’t enter the grave until you have two keys (you only get one as a starting gift), which means you have to exit the area, grab the key, then return. But that area technically exists and is encountered BEFORE the First Step, which makes it an earlier potential invasion zone than reaching the First Step. So at this point we can start arguing the semantics.

The grafted scion is there because it replaced the asylum demon clone boss that was originally supposed to be there because Miyazaki didn’t want us to be sick of them immediately after character creation, seeing how we fought them 2 times in demon souls, 3 times in dark 1, and once in dark 3. He wanted to give us a break before we fought 10 of them in Elden ring
@BrassPetals3VoicesАй бұрын
I wonder sometimes if the grafted scion is how Miyazaki pictures players after piling on a ton of different spells, charms, buffs, armor, weapons and so on from every race and faction when as we are reminded a few times, sometimes the simple solution is the best one. There we are at point where the cycle is on the cusp of old and new. Maybe the scion is us at the end of the game and when we go back and easily beat it, we are in a way being shown that if arm flailing weakness is at the center of our pile of buffs, then we too will be easily beaten.

In Dark Souls 2 and 3, you spawn in any location last you were teleported to as far as I know. Counting your starting point, and not only the bonfire... So it makes me wonder, as Dark Souls 1 was the first with this "checkpoint" mechanics compared to Demon Souls that is more like per zone (as if you die back, you are sent at the start of the zone and not where you spawned) what happens if you die in DS1 before even meeting the first bonfire...? (And now that I write this, the answer is as simple as seeing a Speedrun attempt that avoids using bonfires and dying not long after-... So just leave it as a stupid curiosity that I never thought before...)

What even is an enemy? Even in real life, someone can be your enemy without physically attacking you. "Enemy" also has some special connotation in video games. DS1 hollows are enemies, clearly, it's just that these specific ones are coded to be passive. Does that make them not enemies? Are hostile NPCs enemies? Are friendly NPCs also enemies? Why might a passive hollow be an enemy while a friendly NPC is not? Is it because the hollows respawn? But hostile NPCs don't respawn either. What about the crystal lizards, which _don't_ respawn _or_ fight back? I think if I were reading a game guide, I would expect passive hollows, crystal lizards, and hostile NPCs to all be listed as enemies. An enemy is that which exists to be killed by the player.
