I think its fascinating how people who once were able to see still “communicate” with their eyes. For example, she faces him when he talks, she “looks” at her hand when she is gesticulating. Tommy keeps his ear toward her, and doesn’t generally gesticulate. 😊

I can notice a different. Someone who was able to see at some point still has the reflex to turn their head in the direction of the person they're talking to, while a person who was born blind never developed that reflex, they just absorb everything around them. Might not be the case everytime, but it was interesting to notice that between you two.

main difference is that christine ,when talking to someone "looks " and turn her had to his sound source while tommy looks forward not turning his had

A lot of people have been taught we only have 5 senses, but we actually have far more than that. One of those senses is the ability to sense where your body parts are in relation to other body parts. I don't need to be able to see the back of my head to put my finger on the back of my neck. Close your eyes and start clapping, clasp your fingers together, touch your stomach, your elbows, do it all quickly. It's absolutely astonishing how God made our brains and while our sight can help with these tasks, it's not at all required.
@Glock7eventeen3 жыл бұрын
Lol that's not a sense, you just know where something is.. if I put my phone on my table, I will know it's there regardless if I see it or not.. why? Because I remembered I put it there. And obviously, you will always remember where your body parts are..
@EGeorgev2 жыл бұрын
@@Glock7eventeen while I agree that what they said is not a sense, we as humans, still have more than 5 senses. One sense that everybody forgets we have is the ability to tell temperature - weather it's cold or hot.

Tommy, just want to say I’m so utterly impressed at how much you know about the world and what’s in it. Like I just watched you make an octopus out of Play Doh and I think that’s so impressive because you’re just going off of what people say and what you’ve touched in the past. I hope one day somehow you can acquire sight. I think your mind will totally be blown. To me it’s just normal every day life. No big deal. But honestly, because of you, I’ve realized it is quite a miracle and I appreciate it more. So thank you for that. Hey Tommy! I agree that more people should be aware of the accessibility features. They help the sighted people too. As someone who speaks English as second language, I appreciate every single KZbin channel that bothers to do subtitles. Yes. Despite having decades of experience with the language. English speakers have an endless supply of weird accents, you see. Edit. Also I think I only considered podcasts as a fun kind of a media and started buying a bunch of audiobooks when I subscribed to this channel. So yeah.

I would love it if Tommy could expand more on how he 'visualizes' things. If I ask him to visualize a square or a cube, sure, it will be devoid of color or anything having to do with light, but I wonder what he 'sees' in his mind insofar as picturing a 3D object with 6 sides, 8 corners, and 12 edges, regardless of how it feels with weight or texture. I wonder what his 3D map of his house looks like in his mind. He knows the space, sure, but what does it 'look' like in his mind?

My little sister had a good friend who was born blind. 100% without sight, no shadows or anything. I also went to school with a girl who lost her sight at 16-17. She knew she would lose her sight though, and was prepared. It was a gradual thing. My mum, however knew a lady who lost her sight in her 50s. She ended up not being able to do anything for herself. She would just cry all the time. She needed help for everything. She couldn't go to the bathroom on her own or clean herself. It was very sad. She wasn't interested in learning. My mum lost touch with her when she moved. (this was around 12 years ago) I really hope she got the help she needed and is doing better now.

I am sorry to hear that. I am sure this isn’t what you want to hear but if your vision is that bad perhaps quitting driving would be the best thing. If you got into an accident it could be bad for you legally plus if u injured someone you would feel Guilt the rest of your life. Something to think of. I know sometimes we don’t want to give up our Independence or our work but in the end it is something we have to face. Hope it all works out
