7:15 seriously what kind of questions is this . why would someone not get a treatment that restore their normal functions and improves their quality of life .

how about the scietific approach it is about which wavelength is refelcting from the surface and that is the color you see. so he still doesnt know what color is but maybe there is a understanding of how different colors are #50shades. wavelengths are frequency so you can totally rely on music.

and dont forget the spectrum and that color is transforming there is even colors we cant see but feel #infrared

@OlympiannКүн бұрын
Depth perception is due to the amount of our vision and object takes up. Just like Tommy can judge the distance something is away by hearing it - if it’s closer it takes up a larger portion of your hearing capacity

Elon Musk's Neurolink does go into the visual cortex, eventually they might be able to reroute vision to a camera and bypass the optic nerve all together

Why dont the people let Tommy touch their faces? I would gladly offer anyone blind to touch my face so they can create an "image" of me in their mind. Knowing people just by voice is boring I think.

As a musician, my best way of describing color is with sounds. Color saturation is basically how pure a color is, and to me is comparable to how pure sounds sound. Something like white noise would compare to white, the color. A fully saturated color might sound like a more pure tone such as whistling or a piano. Something like a scream, which has tonality but is also not very pure, would maybe be half saturated. Furthermore, brightness is simply how "loud" a sound is. Dark colors take away light, leading to less light entering your eyes. Bright colors bounce more light into your eyes. At the end of the day though, the amount of light that enters your eyes is still fully dependent on the intensity of the light source. It's similar to how a song has background and foreground elements, but the volume of all of them are controlled by the same button. The difference for sight though, is that different colors within the same field of vision are not overlapped as would happen for sound, but instead neatly organized in a way that the brain can easily determine what is where in space. For people with bad eyesight, a somewhat comparable sound effect would be very lossy audio compression or a vocoder. A lot of the detail gets taken away, and stuff tends to just blur into each other. Another comparable effect is reverb, but instead of colors getting smeared out over time they get smeared out into the other compartments your brain makes. In reality, I'd say the detail loss of bad eyesight is much more comparable to a vocoder, while being as smooth as a reverb. For color blindness, which I personally don't experience but is easy to simulate, it's like turning stereo sound into mono sound. You lose a lot of depth, and similar to how it makes it hard to differentiate left and right in sound, it makes it very hard if not impossible to differentiate between some colors. As for color itself, well, that's the only thing that's not very describable. That's like trying to explain what the difference is between the sound of a violin and a piano. Colors have certain meanings or feelings attached to them, but the meanings we attach are all learned, similar to how the emotions evoked by certain chord progressions or instruments are all learned. Sure, you can explain and describe the physical difference, like looking at the frequency of the wave (for both light and sounds), but that doesn't help explain why it feels/looks/sounds the way it does.

I would try to give him the raw physics explanation. Light has a wavelength to it, and your eyes can detect different wavelengths.

Tommy, I heard that Elon Musk and his Neurolink have made some progress in giving vision to the blind. Before that, they gave a paralytic the ability to play games with his mind, so I don't think it's impossible. I was wondering, if you had the chance, would you be one of the first to get one of these things? Hopefully there won't be any barriers related to the visual cortex or age.

I would have 1000 or more questions for you. I always wanted to talk to someone like you. In order to get you to try and understand the questions, I would have to imagine myself blind from day one and see what is left. Wow, I am just blown away.. I think if I tried real hard using all kinds of commonalities, I could help you understand vision, what it is.
