Which intake is best for my chevy 350 tbi? An open K&N short ram intake or closed Volant cool air intake? Those are the top options that are "emissions approved" for me in California.. I daily drive my truck, and have many other power improvements so far.

Will the car overheat of idling for an extended period of time with an open intake or would it simply heat soak and return to normal once more air is flowing?

Absolutely not, the engine does not produce a lot of heat at idle and even our “open” intakes draw cool air from the front of the car, even at idle. Heat is not an issue with any of our open intakes.

Question: Why don't car makers provide open air intakes if they are that good and much cheaper to produce than one with an extra airbox?

Sound levels are very important for factory vehicles and closed air boxes can be made virtually silent.

Manufactures have to meet federal noise level requirements so an open air intake would be hard for the manufacture to meet the federal governments sound requirement.

Again depending on your use. If you are going to see alot of water 💧 u want it closed. Manufacturers have to build for all not just sound and performance.

You didn't include the risk of sucking in excessive derbies. open intakes typical are sucking air from the wheel housing.

I mean is the data real world? Open intakes do much better on a dyno then vs the real world for a variety of factors. If they both get data in the real world then it is accurate.

Yes we do our testing with the hood closed, and our Dyno fan can produce up to 80mph airflow across the front of the vehicle, we obviously cannot dyno test on the road, but these tests are accurate and show the flow differences of the intakes being compared.

@@034motorsport oh that's good to hear. By real world i meant going to a strip to truely prove what is better, since like you said you can't dyno real world. But I'm glad to hear you take into account factors that can cause inconsistent results.

@@up_all_nite_4408 lol on you’re daily don’t get one more in depths test show cold air intakes take in more hot air over 90degree fera on a car being driven on highways or extended trips around town’ one properly routed outside of the engine yes will give you the full benefit but then worry about debress and weather, people have locked up engines from having a open intake as it lets in much more water then the closed box intake
