Having a naturally aspirated 2016 GT when I installed the Ford Performance Stage 2 package....87mm throttle body, CAI and the ProCal tune low end sucked.....I had Livernois write me a 93 octane and 91 octane program....These fellas in Dearborn, MI. are in my opinion one of the very best at writing tunes and very humble about it......That being said they're tunes absolutely woke this Coyote engine up throughout the whole power band......All you really need to know is Livernois is across the street from Ford Performance HQ and they have a great relationship between engineers.....They were able to locate my lost as built files from they're own data banks....

I can remember when Chrysler, Ford, and GM had the cold air system back in the late 60s and early 70s. GM had the ram air, and the cowl induction systems, Ford had ram air, and Chrysler had the air grabber, and ram air. some was the hood shaker hood scoops, some built into the hood, and some with pop up hood scoops. it would be nice to see those type of hood scoops again.

Manufactures use closed air boxes because they have to meet federal government noise levels, using a closed air box can be made very quite. An open air intake will be louder and likely to loud to meet federal government noise standard.

@@diecast118scale7 you can’t seal a open element filter… the reason they dyno test so high is because EVERY dyno is hood open, I’ve seen cars with the hood closed loose 10hp PER run ( within reason) with the hood closed… having a SEALED intake with the inlet in a high pressure area it will ABSOLUTELY out perform a open element filter

What y’all really need is to open up the front grill for the silver bullet. Factory grill limits how much air you can put through the intake snorkel. Maybe try to cut out the grill. I’d be really interested to see if you can shove more air by grill delete.

@@LongStroke351 You do know why Ford designed it that way right??? 1: It was to prevent drag and 2nd they did a rain and snow snow driving test and I actually watched that video where rain had destroyed the CAI and complete engine compartment when they allowed more air and opened up their grills to allow more air to enter. I have always thought myself and wonder why we only have a few holes in the right hand grill to push air through and most was blocked?..It was purely designed to let air in and keep the elements out at the same time! The only functional hood I've seen was from Cervini where both of their hood ducts were redirected straight to the CAI which is surprising because imagine those ducts passing water to your CAI on a rainy day?

Even cruising around 35 mph you’re basically pushing out the hot engine bay air through the hood vents and getting the cooler air from underneath the motor. This will show on the IAT gauge unless it’s over 100 degrees outside.

Not true at all, the under hood heat is extracted as air enters from the front and under the car, it is not a bubble that just sits there, if that were so engines would overheat in short order if the under hood air had no escape path.

Learned 30yrs ago in NHRA Pro Stock - every 10° chng in a N/A induct. system bout 1% change in pwr. Cooler air = 1% increase obviously on same track temps that we could race on. (not @ zero degrees in other words). Hotter induction air of coarse goes the other way. How close this is to street driven stuff may mathematically be similar. Not necessarily real world. We used tightly sealed hoid scoop to carb setups. (well, sorta.. some tricks 3 decades later we still dont discuss)

So I'm looking into going the all motor route on my '18 car and a ported CJ from Bret Barber is happening.. Only issue is I plan on driving the car a lot. Obviously Scott said the closed lid setup is a "max effort" type deal that can get some idle surging.. In that instance, would that not be something you'd suggest for a car that might see a lot of daily duty? Intakes are kinda' limited once you introduce that oval throttle body into the equation. It's either a heat sucking PMAS or JLT or this closed lid setup that may or may not have iffy MAF signal.

U on E85 becuase i was just told to put insert in after data logging on 93 tune without insert and getting the ok to get the flex and e85r tune which says steedaBOXNI in name of tune thus meaning NO insert u would think. And i ask them should i put the insert in. So i do. And then go to drive and car goes into limp mode becasue the pos insert hangs out and when air going in it probably causes air to get all fckd up flow wise and that happend. But thankfully it happened right after leaving so i just pulled a u and back in garage in 30 seconds. So now im thinking wtf and probably going to have to put stock cai back in and perhaps i can use the k&n filter that came with the steeda box intake and use that in my stock box intake . Im basing all this on logics. So yea he sent me the stock cai tunes which he said dont need data logged. And im about to put 93 tune on then run out of gas then flex tune. Yea i wanted to do the steeda but the insert fcked me and he said it needed to be in. Do u run a air straightener with steeda closed box or just how it came. U get good maf readings on flex tune? @@LongStroke351 But not for the stock throttle body ? So what intake should i run for best flow using stock throttle body, keeping intake temps the lowest, using e85 lund tune , annnnnnnd maintaining proper MAF signals . Because my car went to limp mode with insert in. Insert was out with 93 tune that i just drove like twice to data log it , then they said i should put it in for when i put the flex tune then e85r tune on and the insert u can tell the air is not going to like coming into it and going around the outside of insert then working its way back in tube most likely causing turbulence issues around maf sensor . I asked them if i can try stock cai with the filter that came with the steeda closed box. Or perhaps ordering another brand of closed box. But im not a drag racer , or even take my car to a track to burn the stock pp1 breaks out the first time would be my luck . But i do like track style driving vs drag. so reason i went with closed box was lower intake temps. Just wish more engineering of air flow logics was designed into the intake . But perhaps just the size of the i.d. is literally what makes it a pain kind of.

I've had to replace two fans and make numerous repairs to the fan switch. I have to make sure I pull it apart and clean it and re-lube with dielectric grease and re-crimp the connecter or the fan stop working. edit: oh if the fan stops so does the AC and that sucks in 80 to 90 degree weather. I believe the system is working overtime due to the high intake air temps.

@@jpadilla0515 No it wont. What're you even talking about? 1. There's no such thing as a 'voided warranty'. There is, however, a warranty denial. For example, if you throw a blower on your car and blow the engine, they will still service your radio. Your warranty isn't voided, they will chose to deny the claim if the warranty claim is because of a modification. 2. Tuning your car does not void your warranty in general. Ford knows who it's customers are and it's customers tunes their car. I have NEVER had a Ford dealership deny a warranty claim because the car is tuned. If anything, they've only asked me to return it to stock before they service it, if it was safe to do so.

I want to do a cold air intake but have the vents that are right over the intake box, my car is ceramic coated so big blobs of water tend to pile and fall off the car (idk if its gone in the vent havent seen it happen, but thats my fear). So i wanted to do a closed lid CAI and a dry filter, because i live in east Washington with a lot of desert. My other problem i have seen people say its not worth doing for the slight power increase because when you stop or idle for a long period 10-30min your inlet temp increases (which presumably is bad). Another question the first kit you recommend is it a dry filter or oiled.

Hi there - All valid points, but the water pooling won't be a problem. My 18 GT had no issues with an open lid intake and I had it ceramic coated as well. If you're stop-and-go in traffic, then yes, intake temps will naturally rise. However, we designed our open lid intake to seal against the hood, so it's essentially a 'closed lid' intake when the hood is shut. The Closed Lid is definitely our max effort intake and performs the best at speed, but you can't go wrong with either option. Oh, and oiled typically always performs better than dry, just need to make sure you maintain the filter. Hope this helps! -Chris

@@steedaautosports I think so, so basically buying a CAI is about a bigger filter and a bigger diameter tube thrusting more air into the engine. And with a tune bringing more performance gains 30+hp/torque? And essentially from my understanding a closed lid intake would be better as for the performance aspect because it eliminates any inlet temperatures increasing from engine bay heat. So on 2015-2017 it would be somewhat better. So I'm curious why is the open lid intake better for daily drivers? Than the closed?

It wouldn’t run those times if it was a manual transmission car!

And much larger intake tube and mass airflow sensor.

I was looking at getting this for my 10 year old Fusion Sport... Then I seen the price! Holy Hell! Where is the value at? $330 dollars for a dryer hose and an old tin lunchbox. I'll have to pass. If your product was halfway reasonably priced, you'd have another customer right now.

You clearly don’t understand the cost of developing, manufacturing, inventory, facility and employee costs, yes all of that goes into pricing a product.
