I would add that as part of the learning curve, make sure that you have everything prepared and staged before you start cooking. Griddle cooking is pretty quick (think diner short-order cooking) and less forgiving as compared to grilling or smoking.

You do a great job, my favorite griddle guy. Down to earth recipes and information. I watch to learn something, some of the guys spend more time trying to be funny, or telling me I'm doing it wrong or 90% of the people don't know this. I don't watch them unless I'm desperate.

Nice awareness video Johnny!! If someone loves to cook, the grill is best for certain meals, same for a smoker, but adding a griddle really elevates the menu possibilities. I never thought I'd need one until I got one as a gift. By having one, there are so many more great meals I'm able to put on the table. Plus they are just fun to cook on!

Just found you after finding a 30in Blackstone on Marketplace. 2 years old, not in the best of shape. came in about $300 in extras including a cover. Wire brush ground it to bare metal and reseaoned it. Paid $150. Cooked on it for the first time and was a little overwhelmed with it at first. But the onions turned out perfect. Your videos made it so that everything didn't come out burnt and a bust. Thanks!

Awesome! That's a good deal and if you hit it with a wife wheel then re seasoned then it's basically brand new. I'm glad my videos helped for your first cook. The more you use it the easier it will get. If you didn't grab my free ebook yet it's down below. That should help a lot too. Let me know if you have any questions and congrats.

Great share, each can do things the other can't. That's important to consider when planning menus. I bet most people who have a griddle also have a grill, for doing the "other" things. For my little camper I have a small griddle (camper too small to cook inside it) bc you can do all meals on it. You could have a cast iron griddle or pan for a grill but I think the cleanup is actually more that way. The griddle cleans up easier, quicker, better for stowing away to travel again..

Great Vid Brother. I've never dealt with rust. But I'm OCD when it comes to cleaning and keeping it oiled. Like Todd T. And Blackstone Betty I always put a thin layer on before and after I cook. But I clean mine after every cook. Consistently. But, we don't use our grill very much anymore since I got my Blackstone. Even less since I got my 22" 2 Burner Blackstone. Good Vid. Hope everything is well with you and yours. 🍻 Shawn

There definitely is a learning curve mostly heat management. Its like cooking on a giant cast iron pan. On the stove you can control heat by taking the pan off the burner to cool things off quick on a griddle you need to always be moving the food around. Just bought a Weber Genesis E-315 and a griddle insert so very different set up.

Curious what you think about the silicon griddle covers. I store my griddle in the garage, and am worried about dust and mice, primarily. 'nother good video. Thanks!
@JohnnyBrunet3 ай бұрын
I have one and I can't say that it helps with rust, feels like just another step and a good coat of oil is all you need to prevent rust. You also have to wait for your griddle to fully cool down before you put it back on so sometimes I forget. As for mice, I am lucky and don't have any but if you have some this is a good protection from droppings. So if you want to prevent mice droppings I say get one, if not then I don't really think it's worth the money. Thanks so much for watching.

Hi Johnny, quick question: do you need to season a stainless steel griddle? Thanks for the video
@JohnnyBrunet3 ай бұрын
You don't need to but you can if you would like.
@William_Sotos3 ай бұрын
I have a SST griddle on my indoor kitchen commercial style range and yes, you do need to season it. Seasoning really helps with food not sticking and with cleanup. The manufacturer (DCS) also says to season the griddle.

Do you use propane or natural gas? do you think it’s worth it to switch to natural gas? Great channel!

@@JohnnyBrunet I have a NAT gas outlet on my porch, just change the gas jets in the burners and you’re good to go. Way cheaper. Cooks the same.
@scottgorman71663 ай бұрын
Think of this...if power goes out propane is self contained and you can use it. Natural gas has to be pumped by motors and if the outage is large you aren't getting gas. Me propane!

Question: could I just use my pressure washer to blast any existing seasoning off the original steel and start all over again? my pressure washer wouldn't take very long..
@JohnnyBrunet3 ай бұрын
I have never done it but I saw a video where someone did so it might be worth a try. It's called rolled steel so I gotta imagine it can handle the pressure washer.
@William_Sotos3 ай бұрын
That might work and would probably be a lot of fun but I would think that the mess created by the spray would make this a less desirable method than a more conventional technique.
@mdboatbum3 ай бұрын
I have pressure washed mine a couple times with no ill effects. Unless you have some crazy powerful industrial grade pressure washer, it’s not going to remove seasoning but it will get it super clean.
@JohnnyBrunet3 ай бұрын
@mdboatbum good to know! Thanks for sharing your results. I think I did see someone sand blast it once. But that was probably at a facility that does that sort of thing. And it's probably not worth the cost.
