You might think so, or perhaps you just believe that is what other, unnamed, people think. But you'd have to search far and wide to actually find anyone who thinks this.

It costs me 12 x 87 cents = $8.44 = 13% sales tax = $9.54 for a box of chewing gum -- but that's at my local store. I dunno, maybe your soldier is abroad someplace. But I think you'll have to try a little harder to make any ground on the military waste front...

perhaps weapons should not be an industry. it should simply be maintained by the government purely for defense. when weapons are sold for profit, there's a strong incentive for those weapon manufacturers to incite a war somewhere. the longer the war, the more money they make. the military should be treated like healthcare; you want to keep costs as low as possible while maintaining it, keeping in mind the main purpose of the military, which is to protect the people.

One of the most important books to read is ...War is a Racket... Which i think it is. During my service, i fought for my nation, my people and because it was an amazing adventure. Yet the policies of those in charge enriched a few while costing the public treasury and more importantly patriotic lives.

The military industrial complex and its political affiliates are the major benefactors of the people's blood, livelihoods and future. The big business makes money like madness and leaders increase their stature by scoring brownie points and political scores. The great power nexus among the elites driving conflicts everywhere is an utter disgrace to humanity. Innocent civilians including women and children bear the brunt, sufferings and trauma of war. Families are displaced, lives are lost and horrors occur. Meanwhile, it starts the vicious cycle of never ending destruction, instability and violence.

Quick run-down of current, active military conflicts, East to West (I may have missed some): -Myanmar: Civil war for two years running -Yemen: Low-flame civil war, but with Houthis lobbing a few missiles toward international shipping and Israel, with Western navies throwing a few missiles back -Ukraine War -Syria Civil War: Low-flame conflict. -Israel-Gaza war -Sudan civil war (though not with participation of many civilians, just warring military factions) -Libya Civil war: Low-flame conflict where factions have largely achieved control over their own territories. -Smaller conflicts in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, all fighting against insurgents. That's basically it.

I would like to correct some of the information mentioned here. Akka is located in Lebanon and its residents were displaced as a result of the Israeli war with Lebanon while fighting Hezbollah mujahideen. Now this veiled woman is crying because Netanyahu ordered the strikes on refugee camps and killing the injured in hospitals and taking its young residents to fight against their will.

If your country does not have a strong military and a decent military-industrial complex, one day you may wake up and learn that your country has been a part of historical Russia and Vlad is there to collect. 🤣 Seriously though, spending 3-4% of your GDP is not too much to ask especially in our current realities of Cold War 2.0. Preparation is the best prevention. Of course it would have been better if the tensions had melted and we grew to trust each other and build bridges but we live in a different timeline now. Sad but we are where we are. We cannot turn the time back, we gotta adapt to our reality and hope that in the future things will turn out for the better again. But it will take a few more decades for the pages of history to turn...
