What Are The Programmes And Washes On A Bosch And Siemens Washing Machine

If you have just purchased a new Bosch or Siemens washing machine then some of the programmes can be confusing. In this video i show what a lot of the different programmes offer and an explanation of what each one can offer.

I owe you an enormous thank you for making these videos. My Bosch machine has been standing a whole month unused because I don't have a decent owners' manual. This doesn't excuse Bosch for being completely inconsiderate of it's customers. I have sent a handwritten letter to Bosch in Germany asking for an owners' manual in a language that I can understand. I have two horrible manuals in languages in which I am conversant and they are terribly put together. The third manual is in a language in which my grandfather was conversant but he is no longer alive. David Lixenberg

On bosch machines if you do a bigger load on some of the cycles like mixed load which says 4kg, it'll adapt anyway for a full load. It just adds time on. Also "colour" is the old cotton eco cycle before the new energy label was brought in, which is why its so long. No idea why they thought colour was a good name for it

Bewildering array of programmes and cycle times which, with my new Series 6 washer drier a month in, are very much trial and error. No doubt though that the wash performance is solid, and that this channel helps take some of the headache out of choosing which programme to use and why. Just a shame that manufacturers have needlessly bent to the trendiness of the environmental eco hogwash we are bombarded with daily.

Regular detergent contains enzymes. Enzymes are good for breaking down organic matter like food spills. The problem is that wool is also organic matter, hence the special detergent for wool.

I bought the Siemens IQ500 in August this year and it's my biggest regret ever!! Clothes that I've washed for years,I could hang to dry then hang straight up in the wardrobe can't be done with this machine,and that's with using the less ironing button,everything now has to go into the ironing basket! The wash times on a couple of the programmes are so long,it's ridiculous 😒! They absolutely overwash in my opinion, if you wash clothes everyday then it's just not needed,but the 15/30 minute washes are not quite enough either! The one positive that it has is the wash does come out really clean,but so did my old washing machine and it only took 1 hour & 20 minutes. I've loved all my washing machines in the past just not this one sadly 😔 Thanks again for your in depth information though,it's always a pleasure to get your feedback and knowledge 😊 Can I also add it doesn't mean this isn't a good machine it's just not suitable for me.

That's a shame to hear about the Siemens machine as we do really well with them and normally get good feedback. Not sure if your machine has it, but try the "Easy Care" programme, as it may not crease the clothes as much especially if the spin speed is lowered a little from the maximum spin. Good luck!!

Hi Alison, hope I can help or at least offer a couple of suggestions. As has already been said programs like dark wash and easy care may help, I would add to that ‘mixed fabrics’. Which is naturally slightly more delicate and therefore may cut down on creases. All three of ‘Dark wash’, ‘Easy care’ and ‘Mixed fabrics’ should also be slightly shorter, around 1-2 hours. To cut down on ironing further you can of course use the low ironing button, as well as reducing the spin speed to around 800. Oh and a tumble dryer always helps too. Hope some of these can help ‘

Found this very useful. Recently bought a new Bosch washer and was wondering if the shorter washers had the same amount of rinsing as the longer ones. My old machine’s manual (Panasonic) gave all the stages of each programme which the Bosch doesn’t. I also notice in the manual that the eco wash on Bosch does a lower temperature than 40, a small load is 23 or 27 degrees which seems a bit low. Thanks

Hi, Great video it was really helpful as i just got a new Bosch Series 4 machine. 90% of my washing is polo's/tshirts which are dark and cotton, so which program would be best? the cotton program or the dark wash program. Thanks Dan

Normally the cotton wash would be good, but check on the consumption of the programs as some of the cotton programs can use quite a bit of water compared to the specialised programs like Dark wash.

A question to the Eco 40-60 program. The manual says you can load cotton designed for both 40 and 60 C washing into the machine in this program. It it correct that the machine always washes at 40 C for all this but just long time? It will not put itself somewhere between 40 and 60 C? The question is to understand if we risk temperatures above 40 C or not. Is there anything else needed to know that is not written in the manual about this program? Fx I guess longer programs means higher number of drum rotations left-righ and therefore more wear on the clothes (mechanically seen)?

Yes you are correct that there will be a lot more rotations of the drum so wear could be greater on the clothes. It will only operate at 40 degrees but it is designed to wash clothes that are suitable to be washed between 40 and 60 degrees. Compare the water consumption on the Cotton program and the Eco 40 - 60 and you could be surprised at the difference.

Hi I have a new Bosch serie 4 the tap symbol is on but there is plenty of water in the machine. The old machine never had any issues. Should I get a water pump fitted ? The tap is full on at the back. Thanks.

That does sound odd. This normally indicates it is low water pressure, so if the tap is on full, make sure the hose isn't kinked behind the machine as that is a common problem.

Help! Ive been using the "easy care" setting and each time i select the temperature to the coolest available setting. The issue with this is having to remember to amend the temperature every time. Is there a way to preset the "easy care" temperature to my preferred temperature?

Unfortunately not, if you have home connect you may be able to change some of the settings, but for normal program use, then you won't be able to

If it hasn't got a dedicated duvet program then i would put it on the Cottons program as this will be able to take the maximum load of 9kg

Purchased a bosch top of the range series 8 in 2019 and I have to say I hate the way it’s programs are configured. ALL bar the wool program are way too vigorous and I feel wear out clothes prematurely. The woolen cycle does ONE revolution of the drum and the clothes just sit there until the vigorous rinse cycle begins... The rest of the programs are overly long. What in God’s name needs to be washed for over 4 hours? Plus points of the machine are build quality, quietness of operation and very good rinsing.. I rue the day I didn’t choose a Miele.

The reason some of the cycles are longer is to reduce energy use, it will generally wash more vigorously but at a lower temperature and with less water, to achieve the same wash results. You can work around this by using the "Speed Perfect" button, which cuts the time down quite significantly provided you put in a smaller load size.

“Speed perfect” reduces the wash time by a few minutes, which is rather pointless.

Same here! I don’t know why Bosch think clothes need such aggressive washing. I’ve had things destroyed by it. The wool wash is the opposite. It just sits there and often parts of the clothes don’t even get wet.

Normally if you press the temperature button, it will go through the different range of temperatures before you start the program.

Yes, you can just put the machine on with the wash only and no detergent cleaner or clothes in.

It should have, if you select one of the cotton programs, then you can change the temperature to a lower one from the control panel.

@@lords-electrical my Bosch looks like the one in the video but it doesn't have the temperature change bit on the screen like yours. Everything is either 30 or 40c, apart from a cotton 20 but that takes like 3 hours. It was only bought brand new a few months ago. Really can't believe no cold wash?

The Super Quick 15/30 will only be 15 or 30 minute programmes. You may find If you select the 15 min program but put a larger load in then it could take 20 minutes to wash

Hi I've just bought a new Bosch WLM68 washing machine to replace my 30 year old Hotpoint. Even with the manual I'm a bit perplexed. Can you recommend a video to watch that you've made which would guide me on how to use it safely for the first time, including what/how much washing powder to use etc.? Bosch is difficult to understand compared to asian brands such as samsung, LG etc, and that's why I avoid them
