Not only do I agree... Hey EMI, how about an RSD release on 7" 45rpm and 10" 78rpm...? You did an awesome RSD 78 of The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations". Oh c'mon, Please Please (Me lol), with sugar on top...? #recordstoreday (hey I hear this hashtag thingie works) EDIT: Nowadays there are far more options and advances in digital restoration of the recording itself than there was in 1994/5 when it was done for the Anthology 1 set. Each lacquer (or misnomered "acetate") can be a different restoration animal of its own. If I could work on a new transfer of that disc, cleaned and played properly with an archival 78 stylus (matched to groove size), I'd make it a year long project to remove all scratches 'manually' (sometimes visually reconstructing the soundwave) for best quality, send its remaining surface noise to the basement where it belongs, and retune its frequencies so you could hear more of what that HMV mic picked up in that room.

I had the rare honor (for someone my age) of listening to REVOLVER for the first time in my life on an original UK pressing from 1966. Being a mere 14 year old brazilian boy with little to no allowance, I then took an old cassete tape from some kids material my sisters didn’t care about anymore and made a copy of that vinyl and listened to it for months on end, until on Christmas that year I was given an original REVOLVER cassete tape from those late 80s reissues. Some purists would say I made a poor choice, for those hisses, wheezes and that stuffy sound are supposed to be part of the experience of listening to a psychedelic album, particularly one from the greatest band ever

I still have my Beatlemania album that I bought in Canada in 1963, 2 months before it was released in USA as Meet the Beatles. First Beatles song I heard was in October, 1963 - She Loves You. Canadian legends tell that Beatle popularity in USA began with Americans in cities close to the border listening to Canadian radio stations. I doubt that Beatlemania is all that rare, but it is worth a lot to me.

I bought this album when I was in college - way before the Internet existed as it does today. I had just gotten an email address then...woohoo! Anyway, I always fought the Beatlemania and Twist and Shout covers from Canada intriguing, since I live in the US. I bought them on a whim and had them until the CD craze started in 87-88 and sold them to a record shop for a pittance! As an adult now, I've found myself rebuying some of the same albums I sold when I was a kid.

My own rarest Beatle album is the Mono Box, given that most of my individual album copies are not remotely rare or even the best issues. The rarest Beatle album I've seen is a copy of the Butcher cover with the replacement cover on the BACK side of the album. It looked like it had been sitting in a flooded basement, and now I wonder if it could possibly be a third state where the replacement cover was removed intact enough to put it on the back cover. It would seem an impossible feat.

Fascinating video once again, Andrew. I doubted very much anything I own would be on the list, but it was interesting to see what was there. Perhaps the biggest revelation I had about rare Beatles discs was how *not* rare original mono pressings are. I learned this from your videos a few years ago, and, as you pointed out, while you'd think they would be rare, of course they wouldn't be since so many were pressed and purchased. It's always the one-off (like your #1 pick) or the limited run pressings that are highly sought.

The rarest album I've bid on and lost unfortunately, is the 1971 Yesterday and Today on the US Red Target label. Only 4 copies have surfaced I believe, and I heard even less of a Red Target Revolver US. They started pressing, and immediately stopped because they were supposed to be pressed on the Apple US label instead. They were however pressed on the Red Target label in Canada identical to the US except "made in Canada" on label. I'm guessing worth around $4000 - $6000 US if you can find one.

I found a White album no. 0000076 in a record store some months ago; when I was about to pay the asking price of 30$, the owner of the shop refused to sell it. The condition was poor; the cover was EX-, the records was maybe VG- and was missing the photos, had a rip in the poster and no black sleeves. Some weeks later the owner of the shop contacted me that he's got 3500$ for it, and offered me a mono-release from Argentina, no 0014800 something, complete in NM condition, for free. Maybe that's the rarest I have... Or the re-issue of "Butcher cover" with a red vinyl. Bought it for 17$ some weeks ago.
@h.gordonkemnitz7736 Жыл бұрын
You mean the re-issue, released sometime around 2015? Nah, it's not worth anything much; I think I paid maybe $20 for it then, just as a curiosity piece, to go with my original Stage 1 in Stereo. Looks good, though, and it's a good reproduction, including the rainbow labels. That red vinyl, though...

Certainly one of my favorites back in the 60's and 70's. Played a unique blend--after their initial release of bluesy material called "This Was"--of what I would describe as "Renaissance rock/jazz", with an impressive string of ever-evolving records to their credit ("Stand UP", "Benefit", etc); Got a chance to see them, too, at the Fillmore West in S.F., just as "Aqualung" was released. What a stage presence was Ian Anderson--you had to see him to get the full effect! Great band, even with personnel changes. Got lots and lots of air play over the years, practically all of it their own, original music (except for an "only they could do this" version of Bach's of "Bouree"). And you know what? They are, incredibly, shamefully, NOT, in the R&R Hall of Fame, despite their legacy as an original and influential musical group! Instead, we must hold our noses as the Bangles, the Go-Go's, and all that other moronic "talent" out there, have been "enshrined"; What B.S.! Ah well, whoever said "Life's fair"?

Is there any chance you could do a video about it? Is there anyone else out there who has a deep appreciation for this piece of art as I do? Please be nice with your comments.🎸

I'm also a big fan of Revolution #9, from the first time I heard it as a kid, it reminded me a bit of the odder moments of The Goon Show, of which the Beatles were obviously huge fans. I knew a guy who would go to Beatles conventions and do a long acoustic medley of every single Beatles song ever released, which took about 90 minutes to perform, and he would always include a different part of Revolution #9 when he got to that spot on The Beatles double LP, usually just a snippet of dialogue or whatever, but he would mix it up every time he did it.

Great video. I only own common records as my budget doesn't allow me to go big. However it's interesting to listen the story behind most of these and the value they have

My favorite rare piece in my Beatles collection is a Verzyl Multi Color Rainbow Splatter Bootleg of the Decca Tapes from the late 70s. The sound quality is FANTASTIC and it has the whole track listing which was hard to find before this release, and with other Verzyl bootlegs there was only as little as 25 and at most 200 pressed!

My rarest and I suspect it's not very rare is my copy of the US release "Beatles VI". What makes it a little bit rare is that while it's the US track set, it's a Parlophone labeled pressing. I received it as a gift while living in West Germany back in the late 60s. My father was in the USAF and it was purchased from the base BX.

In my opinion, although not an official pressing, one of the rarest is A Hard Day's Night pink vinyl on United Artists. Only one copy is known to exist, and how and why it was pressed is still a mystery.

I live around the corner from the house in Kensington where they first recorded. I feel lucky that I get to see it often and casually. I Also heard that John, Paul, George, and Ringo were given the first numbers/presses of the white album, so maybe their families or estate own the other 1's?

Love this channel. I was aware of some of these but not the 78 acetates. I try much to the chagrin of my wife..to collect different releases of their albums. I have I think 6 different copies of Sgt. Peppers & 5 or 6 different yesterday & today. Mono stereo colored vinyl picture discs etc.

Well beyond my budget! My not so rare but precious to me albums are original colored vinyl US copies of the Red, White, and Blue albums. Probably as rare as I'll ever get due to budget constraints. Thanks for another great video! I really enjoy watching what you come up with.

I know I have something rare that's connected to The Beatles. I don't know if it's worth anything. It's a Beatles Fan Club record made about 9 months before they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. It's a telephone conversation with George Harrison made in March 1963, about a week after his 20th birthday. I found this record for 10 cents in a second hand store called _The Better Buy._ either in late 1968 or early 1969. It has the same thing on both sides. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a cover. It was just in a paper shelve. That store smelled so musty it sometimes took your breath away. I think it's the smell of old paperbacks. I also found The Beatles white album there in the early 70s. It was only 50 cents! I quickly realized when I got home that it was missing the second album. I finally bought a brand new copy in 1976. I have nine Beatle albums on vinyl. I went into a record store in 1993 and bought all 13 Beatles CDs at the same time.

Hi Andrew. I think the rarest Beatles records I own are: 1. My mums copy of Love Me Do on the red Parlophone label. 2. My brothers 1980`s re issue of Revolver as one side has a black/silver Parlophone label & the other has a black/silver Columbia label. Love your channel. Keep it alive, i love it. Could you do one on either The Beach Boys Pet Sounds or Scott, Scott2, Scott3, Scott4 & Til The Band Comes In. Thanks, best wishes: Glenn Springthorpe

The biggest overall problem with the trade of all things Beatles is that everyone who has whatever title from whatever era demands top dollar, no matter the pressing or condition. And there’s just no convincing them otherwise, even with numerous documentations. Doesn’t matter if it’s private sellers or a record shop. Madness abounds.
@jpreza2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Just because someone has an original T 2047 Meet the Beatles from 1964 doesn't make it rare. Condition, quantity and demand makes a huge difference. I grew up in the 80s and my passion is collecting the Beatles purple and retro rainbow Capitol vinyl from that era. It turns out that these pressings are in extremely high demand, especially in Mint/Near Mint condition. Most likely, it's due to nostalgia as we were the last generation to listen to music purely on vinyl, before CD and eventually streaming took over. Some pressings from Yesterday and Today from 1988-90 are in the $100-$150 range because so quantities are limited.

In the summer of 1963 I was a student at Manchester University and I was travelling round the USA on Greyhound buses. For a while in August 1963 I worked in a hotel in Estes Park. , Colorado. Like a lot of people at that time I had been in Skiffle groups in Manchester since 1958 and I could strum a tune on a guitar and I was asked to sing! and play for the guests in the evening. My workmates asked me about pop music in England I said most of what we listened to and bought was American but we had this new group called the Beatles who were very popular. I sent an airmail letter to my mother back in Manchester and asked her to buy a copy of the Please Please Me LP and post it over to me. It arrived towards the end of August and I played it on the hotel record player and on some players that other people had with them. and the verdict was that it was OK, but nothing special. The Beach Boys dominated the US charts at that time. When I left the hotel in early September I left the LP with one of the other students who had been working there. Sadly I only kept in touch with these people until the end of 1963 and I have no idea of where it ended up.. Whoever had it would have had a big surprise when the Beatles arrived in the US in 1964!

I'd like your opinion on the rarity of a 45 record I once owned but foolishly loaned to somebody in 1976. My first father was a disc jockey in the 1950's and '60's. I was born in '57. Estranged from him since 1960, he visited me in 1966 and presented me with two small wire racks of singles he had played over the years. One was a Disc Jockey-only NOT-FOR-SALE pressing distributed to DJ's at the beginning of Beatlemania. It wasn't music, however. It was a faux Beatles interview that had the four of them giddily answering a series of standard interview questions. There was space between each recorded response for a disc jockey to ask the questions. The overall effect, of course, was to make it sound like the Beatles were giving a live interview to your friendly, local DJ. It was a plain, short single, no photography or artwork. Like I said, I lost it years ago, but the memory of it haunts me. Any idea of its rarity, should it still exist?

The rarest Beatles album I own is a mono copy #5 of the White Album signed by all 5 members of the Rolling Stones. Just kidding. I've never acquired anything really rare. Perhaps my nice German copy of Wonderwall Music is a bit unusual, as was a copy of the Get Back sessions bootleg 'Black Album', which I sold for the staggering sum of £80 (cos it had the poster). Very interesting video as ever- I still keep my eyes peeled for Beatles 78s in charity shops but no luck yet.
@stephencooke45692 жыл бұрын
I still have my copy of the "Black Album" with the poster! Good to know it's worth a bit more than the $60 (£30-ish) I paid for it decades ago. I have a couple of other vinyl Beatlegs from that period, Codename: Russia and The Real Case Has Just Begun which, at the time they came out, had material that hadn't been heard by collectors at that point, but I'm sure it's all been issued now. They were taken directly from tapes that had presumably been stolen from the Apple offices and sounded first-rate compared to other boots.
