Back around 1990, I bought 36 cases of records from a guy for $800. Come to find out, his father was an executive for Columbia records. Every time they pressed a record, he got a copy. About 95% of these were either test pressings, or white label promos. Think, Miles Davis, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, Santana etc... Also Bruce Springsteen. I got a mint copy of that hand drawn Born to Run album. I sold it for $1500 at a record show back then. I still have about 90% of that collection in my stash.

Rush is from Canada. I met them in Montreal at a party of a friend of mine. I didn't know they were Rush until I left and my friend said who they were. They are very down to earth people. In 1980 I had bought a big stack of albums from my oldest bro, which I no longer have bc my abusive ex had thrown them all out in a huge deep ditch that floods yearly. It was such a great loss to me, my bro had died a month later n I had cherished his albums. They had consisted of a variety of classic rock, disco, etc. I also had a variety of vinyl record albums n 45's from the 60's n 70's. My favorites were CCR, they had belonged to an uncle who had also passed away when I was 7 yrs old in 69, I had found them in 74. But two of my aunts had burned them all. Music was a huge part of my life, more healing. Losing all of the albums was such a great loss to me. So if y'all have record albums, cherish them, they're valuable in various ways.

I just watched this for the first time. My youngest brother died about 12 years ago at age 50 of heart disease. He left a large wooden, military style trunk that is full of 70's rock and roll, hard rock, etc. albums. The trunk has been sitting in my garage for years and I only opened it for the first time quite recently. I knew nothing of values for these records but now I am intrigued to go though them and check them out. I did notice Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, and many other rock groups in there, upon just a cursory look. I am inspired to see what I can find out. Thank you for posting these videos!

Record conventions used to fun--not to acquire rare pressings, etc, but to find albums in good shape from the obscure bands I loved in the 70s. Atomic Rooster's first record, Dave Greenslade's art book album ("The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony"), Colosseum Live! (double album), etc. Not rare and expensive, just hard to find.

Hello Dylan, I collect Alice Cooper records. When it comes to Holy Grail pressings Easy Action on the Bizarre (blue) label is extremely desirable. The first three albums, Pretties For You, Easy Action & Love It To Death were originally released on Frank Zappa's Straight Records. They then moved to Warner Bros. Some copies of Easy Action were released on Frank Zappa's Bizarre label. At the moment there are under twenty known copies. I have owned two & currently own one copy.

Dillon, I have a question. I got a name brand record player that will record onto a cd, which I haven't used for that purpose. The thing is, it includes a 78 speed setting, and I got some 78 records from a relatives attic. I cleaned them up as best I could, but some did have lots of dust, and even a dirt dobber nest, which I cleaned as best as I could. These are records from the 30's with big names, but I think I did a really dumb thing by playing one. I only played it for about 30 seconds before I realized it could possibly damage the needle, and then mess up some of my treasured a Records. I was always careful to hold them by the edges, and not only dust wipe the record before playing, but use a bit of dust off on the needle as well. This is the best way to get rid of even subtle pops, short of having your own clean room to listen in. (Used for making hard drives) haha... Anyway, do you recommend changing the needle before playing a modern vinyl record, or is just giving the needle a good cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol enough??? I love old records. I passed up a bootleg zeppelin album at a yard sale in Fayetteville NC a few years back. Didn't have the space. One record I have that is a 38, might be worth something. It is the recording of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon and going out with his One step for Mankind speech. It is mint condition with a photo on both sides of the cover slip. The cover does have some very minor creases from holding. I just wonder if it is worth anything. I just discovered your channel tonight and it's awesome. Thanks for doing this.

For sound, you can't go wrong with the original purple translucent Robert Ludwig presses, (looks black until held in front of light) but there are black versions also. But! 1st stereo Butchers in NM are going for around $15,000 if not more. The 5 to 6,000 dollar one your quoting would be for mono NM copies. No one really knows how long Butchers were on shelves. I think it varies from 1 day to 3 weeks. In 1988 I bought a 1st state Stereo Butcher and it's pristine. It's in its plastic bag as I call it, just very loose plastic like a bag. This was before shrink wrap. The only reason my copy would grade NM is because it was opened. The record couldn't have hit the turntable more than once, maybe never, it's pristine. What makes mine even more special is that it has the Sears price sticker on the plastic wrap. We now know that Sears did pull theirs after one day across the nation. These are almost impossible to find with that price sticker on them. I got mine at a Pittsburgh record shop in 1988 and paid $2,000 for it and that was book price. This shop would always work with you and come down a little but on this one he wouldn't because it was so damn nice. I only had 500.00 on me so I gave him that and came back next day and paid the balance. My friends thought it was cool but a lot of money in 1988 dollars. My father thought I had lost my mind. I'm looking pretty smart now. I started collecting Beatles records in 1972 at age 14 long before most people even thought about collecting their record's. I also have a NM mono 1st that I got of a kid in highschool from a friends older sister for 20.00. Also have a 2nd state NM stereo and also NM mono and a stereo 3rd state perfect peeled Butcher. Also have another record as rare and desirable as a 1st state Stereo Butcher. You probably are aware of it Vee Jay label, Stereo NM The Beatles And Frank Ifield On Stage. I found this in a tiny record shop in eastern Ohio next to the train tracks. It was literally an old railroad shack. I found this in 1976 and I paid 25.00 for it and it's an original not a counterfeit. If you saw my Beatles Lp, 45rpm and Ep collection, your head would do a full 360° turn like Linda Blair's head in the movie The Exorcist. Also have all Dylan 1st pressings from the sixties except for the Free Wheelin you were talking about and all 45rpm's including PS's and promos. The big money White Album you were talking about was John Lennons #1 copy that he gave to Ringo who had #4. He said John told him that he only wanted the first copy to irritate Paul. That would be so John in 1968. Peace ❤
@whichgodofthousandsmeansno53063 жыл бұрын
I imagine the old mono albums from the Beatles will increase in value being the engineers being interviewed which are now all over You Tube swear by them as the best sounding because they were mixed to sound the best tonally in mono and are the ones they put the most work into to get the sound they all wanted. They said they hate all the remixes. So regardless of what sounds best to our ears does not mean it is worth more.

Geoff Emerick (RIP) abhorred the Sgt. Pepper reissues. There's a lack of musical literacy in the last 20 years. Case in point: The George Harrison All Things Must Pass anniversary. No understanding of what a mix is meant to do, they just put George's voice like frosting on a cake. Sounds like garbage.

Later started really hunting down things like boards of canada (watch the record store day story on the secret albums dropped in stores around the world) thievery corporation, burial, amon tobin. I was shocked to see how much these have gone up in value over the last decade or so. Great. Great video! Regarding the Led Zeppelin II vinyl, it’s ludicrous to think someone could work at a record label and be so thick as to make a call like that (it being played on a kids record player) and then having it remixed. An example of too much power that shouldn’t have been granted.
@rabarebra11 ай бұрын
wasn't remixed, but lowered in sound volume. It was common back then, if it didn't work on all turntables, they fixed it. If the grooves are too big (too large waveforms), there will be large low frequency (bass) curves that made the needle jump out of the grooves. Equipment got better, so nobody cared later on about those cheap turntables.
