Tim Waltz was one of the poorest people to run for Vice President, and Jasmine Crocket has been vocal about how being required to have a place of residence in one's home state and DC is prohibitively expensive - making it harder for people who aren't already rich to get into politics.

The intentions are different. Job background checks are to protect the employer and employees. Pres Trump has already done such background checks for his nominees, all of which have been previously background checked for prior high positions. Dem Rep Lieu's legislation has the intention of enabling today's corrupt, politicized FBI to cause delays and interfere with the nomination / confirmation process and short-circuit Pres Trump's constitutional powers. This would be a continuation of the Dem cabal and the corrupt DOJ / FBI exceeding their legal and/or constitutional authority in order to "Get Trump".

*Doing* the background check means nothing unless there's consequences. If someone can't pass the background check, *they need to be barred* from federal employment in the top jobs. *That's the important bit* - cos last time, Trump just gave out clearances over the objections of the intelligence communities. That's the bit you need to legislate! Force the checks, then *bar the employment* for certain jobs, and include a generic 'Presidential Advisor' role as well, so that they don't get to just 'hang out' in the WH. In fact, you could bar them from WH or Executive Office access, without a guide or security escort! It wouldn't be foolproof, lots of Fox anchors got called for advice last time Trump was in office, but it's something.

If you want to run for national office or receive an appointive position, you should have to pass a full-field background investigation prior to being able to be appointed or run for office. Being deemed to be suitable for access to national security information because you won an election needs to end. The permanent election cycle allows ample time for candidates to be investigated. I was a career federal employee who could not begin my job until after I passed the background check, and maintaining that clearance was a condition of my employment. Once you are cleared, it is easier to maintain a clearance. You just go through the update every five years, though there is an ongoing requirement to report changes in your financial situation or if you get married, among other things.
