Love the reference to those early Meshell Ndegeocello records! It's incredibly cool to hear an artist that I look up to and am inspired by every day being influenced by the same music that is inspiring me today.

I was just thinking yesterday, while watching TPS, that you should go on next time you're in England. Would be good to see!

Thanks for the answer! Not sure why I never thought of attempting to read along with the music itself. And... Levon Helm's vocals were AMAZING!

Hi Janek, thanks for answering my question about rigid. I think if I explain my question better, it means that I play everything with patterns (root fifth for instance) so my basslines are rigid. Now I will think I haven’t really quite jammed with records I like. Thank you Janek and hope you and Chelsea are well.

I’m loving the variety of content that you’re putting out, Janek! It’s been very informative and entertaining. Do you plan on making any more episodes of your practice sessions? Or have you just decided to move away from those types of videos?

Should be a new episode of the practice room coming this week. Planning on Thursday...

thanks for answering my question re: transcribing on paper vs software - was also thinking in terms of the instant feedback you get from software in that you can play your transcription back to "check" it, but on paper you just have to trust yourself that you got it right

I visited the channel thanks to 5-Watt World's recommendation. It was spot on. I am so glad I subscribed to your channel! Thank you for your illuminating videos. (I am a fumbling southpaw bass/guitar player inspired on bass by James Jamerson, Bruce Thomas, John Entwistle, Scott Lafaro, and Carles Benavent, among others)

I appreciate your encouragement but, natural talent is real. It doesn't guarantee success but, it sure does help.

I love hearing monster players say things like, "I feel like I'm making some progress." So inspiring.

Hi, thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. i will just leave that phrase alone. 16th at 167ish bpm is out of my capability at the moment... nevertheless I just listen to it over and over and another question came to my mind. how do you deal with phrases where you think they are incomplete...notes are "swallowed" do you still try to get them down on paper as they are or do you try to correct them as you think it was meant using your experience in jazz vocabulary? and how do you deal with phrases that are out of your reach technically? do you always choose your solos to transcribe within your technical ability or are you aiming high and just learn something over an extended period of time "couple month?" I appreciate you taking the time doing what you doing. you are a big inspiration. thank you

How do you feel about and what is your experience with carbon fiber bass necks? Thanks for the continued inspiration.
@janekgwizdala4 жыл бұрын
I have very little experience with carbon fiber necks. I've played a few over the years, but not long enough to be able to comment on them, or give you any useful advice.

I really enjoy the DR Legend Flats and have played other DR strings over the past 15 yrs. My only gripe about them is string windings at the end of the string is pretty heavy. I have had to modify bridges to fit them through bridge holes. Even on my open bridges on my Warwick, I have had to really press them into the bridge. Love the strings but this is a minor annoyance. I am curious about the Labella Flexible Flats and hope to get a pack soon. Love the channel, cheers 🍻.

Since you are playing a lot in classical style (bass position) and above the 12th fret, have you ever tried Mayones Cali 4 bass, or any of those 17” scale mini basses?

What’s your thoughts on the th500 fan noise @janekgwizdala? Mine is so distracting at low practice volumes!
@janekgwizdala2 жыл бұрын
The fan doesn't bother me. I think I've spent so many thousands of hours practicing with this rig, that it's just a part of the background now.

I've heard other youtubers say that jazz bassist don't need any sort of pedals. What do you think is essential/practical for the bare minimum for gigging players just starting to build a pedal board?

what's the string gauge on your high C string?

Right now it's a 0.30. I've played 0.32 for the longest time, but am trying something new for a little while.
