Ben, your story reminded me of a guy I was partnered with on the ambulance: he was one of my Clinical Instructors. We were enroute to a chest pain on the fairway of a golf course, and he was enthusiastically telling me about how he would theoretically rob the weekend takings from the snowfields using snowmobiles etc, when suddenly he drove the ambulance into a bunker that he hadn't seen and fucking cabbaged it. As we're lying on the roof of the upside down ambulance with shit everywhere he says "I swerved to avoid a kangaroo, right?" This dude was a great paramedic, but a better crook.

I think it's absolutely foul that in the eyes of the law, a pursuing police officer has to assume the responsibility of fleeing criminals to the extent that they, can be charged for the actions of said criminals in the event of fatal rtc... It beggars belief. Ben as always, great video mate. It's a joy to learn about the calling that I've always wanted to be in but sadly due to health issues... I doubt I'll get there now. I'll look forward to future content here, hang in there fella, all the best. N

Every day is a school day in "the Job" and irrespective of whether are one month in, or one month from retirement, you're constantly learning. Meanwhile, two officers, PC Benjamin Pearson and PC Hamza Darr received a Judges’ Commendations award. They ended up in a car chase with a stolen car in Bingley which flipped and rolled several times before bursting into flames. Both PC Pearson and PC Darr pulled the four occupants out of the car and proceeded to treat them, despite the circumstances and the obvious danger.

Big up to Ben, another great video from a great guy! much respect. made me think a lot of my last tour of Afghanistan as i had been in 16 years and had lots of 18 year old lads (and lassies) just out of training who knew nothing about the realty of combat! I think there is a lot in common with Soldiers and Police officers although i have to say that i think now a days police offices see worse stuff than soldiers (due to Iraq/ Afghan ending) and do a much harder job as people expect soldiers to be rough with them but police have to stay within the law.

The service I'm with - part of the green family - has got policies and procedures in place now for trainees, X numbers of third manning and all that. Middle of last year, in order to get bums on seats and Control being willing to bend over backwards to accommodate crew requests, we had some siblings go through training together, and went straight from the classroom training to doing double crewed shifts together. It was quite shocking to hear that 1: They wanted to go out immediately together without an experienced person to assist them, 2: That Control let them do that, and 3: That station management didn't see that and say something. Having someone more experienced to hold your hand is so helpful, and having someone less experienced making you have to explain your decision process more to them makes you think about your decision making more (I'm going to do XYZ because... Wait, why AM I doing XYZ and not ABC?)

Hi Ben, great stuff as usual. I’ve got a question for you mate, how do you feel about the fact that under British law at the moment someone can be arrested and given a criminal record for offending somebody? something you’d probably get over in about 5 minutes, however having a criminal record is something that most people can never get over I.e find a job, get a flat…. Bearing in mind that freedom of speech is a human right, and therefore being prosecuted for something you say is an infringement of said human rights.
