I really like how you bring science and biology and sound physics into your videos. Makes me feel like singing isn't just some black magic

Hi Jay, this is one of the best videos coaching for singing I watched recently... it is definitely awesome ! ! ! There are so many valuable points that you bring out in only one single video... like playing time 03:25, 05:19, 05:42, 07:09 etc... Thank you with respect, Jay :)

Thank you for this video but could you please demonstrate how a belt should sound like?

I think I batch produced this video together with my other video on low larynx, I demonstrated there so it probably felt repetitive for me to do it again here. Go watch that video if you need to

All makes sense now. No more breaks, no more straining, I can finally sing freely. Only one question, Do I need to apply this placement also to pure low- middle chest notes? Or for those the placement can stay low?

is it also true that in those live performances they also have compression and other effects on their mic?

Hi! When I mix, I am basically singing in a reinforced head voice. If I put my hand on my chest I still feel vibrations, so there is definitely some chest resonance involved, cause when I only use head voice, I feel no vibrations in chest. I just don't agree with the placement: it definitely is a super forward placement, in the area around the nose, otherwise you have no power at all. I think Bruno and Ariana were just singing with less volume because they were in a small space, but it is just a choice. I think they are putting more power on the stage, regardless the amplification system , and in order to give more power you need a forward placement, even when you mix.

You probably missed the whole point of this video. But it's ok, I'm producing a video on the forward / mask placement now, stay tuned for that video to see what that term REALLY means.

Watch my other videos if you want to see me do it. But I'm sure Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande are doing an excellent job at demonstrating it in this video already :)
