Great tutorial. I have learned over the years from great singers and beginners that the consummate belter has to be confident. You have to be mentally willing to go there. Belting is a place to go to in your voice. Many voice teachers discourage it, because they themselves never learned to do it.

I like Ken as a person and I did his course, but Chris Liepe is the real deal for me. Chris explains and demonstrates in an effortless, clear way (whereas Ken sounded like he was straining and I didn't always follow in my body what he was trying to teach me). FYI since doing lots of videos with Chris and just 1/3 of his vocal course, I've added 3 notes to low and 8 notes to my previous range :-) Thanks Chris!

This technique is 100% correct, it’s great to hear someone actually acknowledging that belt or the ‘calling sound’, can be used efficiently and without causing strain or vocal damage. The key is to not push the sound too much. Let it resonate. Don’t feel like you have to add extra volume…because this sound quality is already loud, even though the singer can’t necessarily hear that. This vocal placement is yelling. It’s a primal sound that we use to get someone’s attention. I find it complicates things when you think you are ‘singing’. It’s a sustained calling quality. However, postural support is essential, as you ascend higher. You need to support your voice using your body. Lift your chest up just a little, so your diaphragm isn’t collapsed and keep a straight alignment from your head/ear, right down throughout your body. You’ll feel your back and abdominal muscles engage to support the weight of the head. If you watch someone suddenly call or yell at someone, you’ll notice how their body naturally lifts itself into that position, to properly support the voice.

Remember it, there is no secret around it. If you explore something new don't over exercise and lose your voice that day. If you think have found a new stairstep, do it a few times more 5-10 times and give it a rest until tomorrow. Singing is all about muscle memory, listen to your body what YOU feel when you are doing that, remember that feeling.

My respect to you, and you have got a new fan!

Chris, after watching this video for the 74 time (and many of your other one's) I finally realised what you were talking about. I was driving home last night, it was dark and miserable. I thought 'hey'! no body can see or hear me, I'd try a different approach to singing a few Shinedown songs. Brent Smith has a very strong chest voice which I could not match when he went above my break. I used to employ my head voice but always suffered vocal fatigue after one or two tracks (aching in my throat and neck) AKA stress. My voice sounded weak & thin which frustrated me. I thought he must have a great gift, which he has. I'm not saying it was perfect by no means but I had no fatigue. Now I think I need to practice, practice & more practice to work on my vowel placement & maybe breath support. It's gonna be a long road I think but thanks for videos. I'll keep watching for advice & new techniques. Thanks.

You do really have good comments on singing. This particular how (good) opera teachers teach about projection, the "like you want to adress somebody on the street". Placement is everything, once you have found the right placement you have keep the voice there all through the end. If you cannot yet, work on your breath support more and do everything gently. Singing shouldn't be forceful. If you want to able to perform a flawless note and next day, and the next day and after that you have to be able to do it freely without shouting or tension. A songbird doesn't force its singing, you shouldn't too.

So it makes it so much easier to follow. Also you explain things step by step which a lot of other teachers don't. I just don’t know if others would like the singing voice or the songs and am I already too old? Because of that, I never believed that I have something musical to offer or share, but still, it’s still my dearest dream…
