Hello, after 44 years of sewing, I decided to upgrade to a Bernina. Throughout my sewing journey I have use many sewing machines. I went to my dealer and ask for the bottom of line, I bought the B335. I am delighted with it. I just cannot imagine what I would do with the top of the range models. In the 18 months I have had my B335 I have tailored my daughters business suits, evening ware for my wife, just finished 6 shirts for myself, not to mention several quilts. Awww Thank you so much. I absolutely love teaching i get so much joy out of it because some people come in so frustrated and after the classes they are just so excited to get home and start playing with their machine. It brings me lots of joy. I am happy to bring all that I know to whoever want to listen. Thanks for watching.. :)

I have the 335 and love it. I sew all day every day for my Etsy business and my machine works hard. It does everything I need it do and never gives me a single problem.
@sewingwithcodyandpete86512 жыл бұрын
Thats the beauty of that 3 series is you will never have a problem with them they are a workhorse. Sadly they don't sell that well because people want those bells and whistles but they don't know what they are missing especially when they choose a different brand at the 3 series price point because they want fancy features but they compromise so much in quality and precision. I am happy you are happy :)

Hi Cody, probably the most important thing you said is that there is no perfect machine out there that does absolutely everything. I feel greedy having 5 machines, but justify it because I use them for different things. My Bernina is a trusty little B330. It doesn't do everything, but it is still my fave.

I so wish you were closer to my area. I would proudly buy a machine from you & know it was a perfect fit. Sadly the dealer near me only cares about making a sale & moving you out the door. I started with a used 640 & bought a 570QE during the pandemic. I just found you & am so glad, there are so many things to learn on this machine. Thank you for your vids!

I started out with a 350 and loved it. Moved to a 475 and I like it a lot as well. Thread cutter and big bobbin game changer. I’m soooooo enamored with the auto foot raising (can’t remember what Bernina calls it) that starts with 5 series. Thanks for this helpful video. 💗

sometimes you are not sure which machine you want as you may want the ability to grow. I have been a clothing designer as well as a maths teacher and a personal trainer. I am an expert dressmaker and pattern cutter. I have recently retired, and think to myself, maybe I would like to do quilting, embroidery collage etc. I bought the QE570 and up to now, not done anything else that I couldnt have done on my very old Bernina... but the option is there. A Bernina is for life... well maybe 2 or 3 or 4 for life... this is my Bernina No4.

Thanks for this overview, and looking forward to seeing the next one about the larger machines. Perhaps you would consider doing a video where you can provide similar information on the Bernette line, and especially how features compare to Bernina. I have found that dealers in my area rarely suggest Bernette and yet they get great reviews from other places.

I've had my 535 for 2 years and love it for piecing and garments. I'm looking forward to seeing the new 735 when it's released in the USA. Great video. I did a lot of research between the 475, 480 and 535 before I made my purchase.

So happy to hear. Yes the 535 is wonderful. I talk about the 735 in the part two video. It’s very nice. It’s basically a bigger version of the 535 with a big touch screen, same type of features of the 535 just 1 1/2” longer throat space. 🙂

Thank you Cody! Very helpful video!! I've been waffling between the 475 and 480-my only hesitation has been that I've read some negative reviews about the 9mm stitch width. However most of those reviews came from those who mostly do piecing and I am mainly a garment sewist. Thanks for adding some clarity from different perspectives-it sounds like, as a garment sewer, the 9mms won't give me many problems at all. I'm thinking the 480 and I would get along well. I appreciate your review!

Hi Cody, excellent, informative video for folks interested in buying a Bernina. I am fortunate enough to have a 480 and a 790 so I’m really looking forward to listening to your advice on the next couple of videos. Also a reminder that the 480 has a dial to adjust the pressure foot pressure(not sure if the 475 has this too) but it might be important to somebody in the smaller machine range. Love all your videos - thank you and all the best for 2022😊

Glad you enjoyed the video. You’ve got two wonderful machines. Yes all the 4 series machines have the pressure foot pressure adjustments I was using it on the 475 today. Very helpful video. I have a 440, which i hope never dies because i love that not everything on it is electronic...but if it does the 475 sounds like a perfect match for me, and I would be able to keep all my extra feet and the BSR i have for my 440. I feel like I would lose a lot of accessories i already have if i move to a 9 mm machine.
@amierikke62252 жыл бұрын
Wow! This was excellent! Looking forward to hearing about the 590. I bought mine about 2 years ago and I love it, big learning curve for me. I had a Verturoso that I bought second hand. But with my 590, So far so good, but I don’t feel I’m using it fully. I sew a couple garments or projects a week and kind learn new things as I go. I took the classes offered at my Bernina store and I’m planning on going to more of what they offer, some sew alongs and such. I don’t see much about the 590, and I wonder about it, is it being discontinued? I don’t see many who have the same model at my Bernina store classes or on KZbin. I’m mostly a fashion garment sewer, but I dabble in home decor, bags, small quilts.

Cody, thank you for clearly explaining the differences among the machine series. I first purchased a 335 because a friend recommended it and it was in my price range. I loved working with it, but soon realized its limitations when trying to line quilt even small pieces. So I saved up and a year later purchased a 770 QE. They are totally different and are perfect for what I choose to do. Your video clearly explains why, and validates my experience! Thank you - and I can’t wait to see the next video.

Your Bernina videos are outstanding! I am considering the 535. Can you tell me what the term “drag and drop” means? It is listed as being a feature on the 500, 535, 570 QE and 590. The sales person who was very knowledgeable, did not know what it meant. She looked through the manual but no luck. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching your videos featuring Bernina feet. Thanks for your help!
@sewingwithcodyandpete86512 жыл бұрын
So the drag an drop is quite simple the term I think is odd. However it’s referring to the ability to move your embroidery design around with your finger or stylus. So you can click and hold on a design and drag it around the screen and “drop” or place it where you want to place it. 😀 Hope this answers your question. 😉

Hi why would you use a stitch regulator?
@kityfitz Жыл бұрын
I want to know about this too 🤔
@brysonwest93 Жыл бұрын
You don't need one for regular sewing when you are engaging your feed dogs. The feed dogs pulls the fabric through in perfect synchrony with the needle movement, ensuring your stitches are all the same size. When you are doing freehand embroidery or quilting, you drop your feed dogs. That makes it much harder to get even stitches. The BSR helps with that!
@sdcgren6301 Жыл бұрын
Thank you it clears my head, all these new thing , that’s why I’m asking about these. I’ve finished my first ever quilt! My “Queenie” quilt, it turned out to be much much bigger than intended. I didn’t have a stitch regulated then.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIG9dIF3eNKYoNk Can I ask why you say the 480 is perfect for garment sewing? I use a straight stitch for wovens, "lightning bolt" stretch stitch for knits, occasionally a 3-step zigzag for elastic. Unless you mean for finishing seams? I have a serger for that.
@sewingwithcodyandpete86518 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. With some but not all garments topstitching is a great way to finish garments and seams. The 480 has a wider stitch width so when using some specialty feet like the #10c edge stitch foot the wider width allows you to move your needle position further way from the guide to top stitch further way from the edge or seam of your garments. I make a lot of shirts and I will stitch on each side of the seam on my shoulder seams for example and the 9mm stitch width allows me to stitch further from the seams and looks much better than a 5.5mm stitch width machine.

I think what your trying to say is you want your machine to be used not displayed
