I was in desperate need of a job and applied at a UK petrol station. The interviewer said "We all smoke here. Our latest employee didn't smoke until she started here with us." Nope, thankyou very much

Same. I do not smoke and I don't want to.

One of my first interviews ever, the guy doing the interview asked me what church I went to. I don't remember what my answer was, but seeing as I have never been a Christian (or Jew or Muslim) at any point in my life, I can't imagine I answered in a way he liked. Years later I learned that asking questions like that is highly illegal.

What I'm taking away from this is that if you're in a one person consent state, and a woman, you could make a job out of recording your interview and then suing everyone that asks you if you're going to get pregnant.

I was at a "Interview" once where every single Door was locked. After I've left, because I've tried for a Eternity to find a Way into the Building and wrote a E-Mail, they've claimed I was there. Why didn't anyone open the damn Door then?🤦🏻♂️

If the job says "some overtime required" (they are actually trying to get you to work long days). In my case 10 hour days and early 6-4 (arive 15 mins early just to milk more out of you).

Most professional interview I ever had was for a financial secretary position at a church. I had previously interviewed with the minister 8 months before and sent a thank you note, but asking to not be considered for the position as I wanted full time and the position as explained was part time. Eight months later minister called, asked me to reconsider as they had revamped the position and it was now full time. He set up an interview for me with 3 business men: chairs of finance, personnel, and administrative council. At the end of the interview I knew I wanted the position and the opportunity to work with volunteers who approached their time and efforts with such professionalism. I commented at the end that it was the most professional interview I had ever been on. Got the job, fell in love with the church and members and eventually joined the church, that was 27 years ago, and that interview stands out still.

I interviewed at a place that said it was automatic termination if you were even 1 minute late. There was also no allocation of sick time or vacation for the first year of employment. Additionally, if I had a doctor's appointment or such I would not be allowed to take a partial day off, I would have to take the entire day off and make up the hours during other days that week. I also would be allowed to talk to the other employees when they were doing work in order to not interrupt them. All work would have to be done after hours. It was for an IT support position at a machine shop.

My biggest red flags happened on interview for intern position. The first one was a big brazilian retail company with several offices e different products, ecommerce, physical stores, fin tech etc. I was with around 50 people on a auditorium. The company said they had several opened position and there were people from all college courses there. Fair enough for the first round of interviews. But then people asked on which phase of the selective process we would choose on which positions and locations we were competing. We wouldn't choose, only AFTER signing the contract they would tell us where we would work, they were responsible to check our habilities and put us anywhere even if that mean we would have to cross the city to work on something non related to our course. That was the first red flag. Then someone asked about salary and benefits. They said they would only tell this info after we pass all phases because they wanted people that work for them because they loved the company, not for a salary. I passed on this first phase but when they called to say the date for phase 2 I just declined. TL:DR: Company wanted us to sign a contract without knowing where we would work or how much they would pay saying we should be motivated by their values. As if their were some kind of humanitary cause not just a retail.

The second one was a logistic company. There was about 10 people on the room and they paired us to discuss a topic and which pair one person would be selecred. They wanted to avaliate our ability to argue. Whe it got my turn I was paired with a crazy person. She was screaming, losing control, being rude. She just kept interrupting me and took almost all the time screaming and her face became red so much she screamed (she was whiter than me). I thought "nailed, this chick is so crazy she would never pass this phase." When they announced the results she was selected. I asked for a feedback and they told me she showed that she was passionate about the topic. I was young and got realy sad. Now almost 20 years later and a solid career I just think I dodge a bullet. If that was passion I don't even wanna know how is the daily routine and how they solve conflits. TL:DR: Company mistakes being rude with being passionate and choses the person who screams more on a dynamic to evaluate our ability to argue.

I applied to a position and they reached out to schedule a phone screening. The phone call took 5 minutes, the did not ask me anything about my work history, only my future avaliablity, then scheduled me for an in person interview. I did not think 🚩because maybe they were going to ask the real questions in person. I show up with resume in hand to a room full of people who were also there for an interview. An employee came out, started a PowerPoint and began explaining the job and how the business worked. At some point I raised my hand and asked "when the interviews were going to start" and he said "you have already been in your interview, that was the phone call. We had all been hired." 🚩🚩🚩

i once interviewed at a local chain grocery store for an overnight stocking position. by the time a 3rd (?!) manager came in to the office during the interview, i knew i wasn't getting the job. 18 year old me may not have been super smart, but it felt like a dodged bullet

Oh I remember another one. I was as a freelancer for a short term project so I was working on the company without going through the full selecting process. They were interviewing people for a full time position. They were >>>on purpose

Try not to read too much into multiple interviewers. I have conducted hundreds of interviews this way. We all take turns asking the questions and we all take the same notes hoping to catch everything the candidate is saying. None of us are stenographers so we expect there to be gaps. Hopefully between the 3-5 of us we don't miss anything relevant. At some point we need to discuss every candidate and we'll need our notes to remind us which candidate said what. We have resumes, but the interviews are the additional information we need to break ties. If you are interviewing, you qualify for the job on paper. We need to figure out the best fit among qualified candidates.

Honestly makes me so glad my current jobs been great from the start. Biggest green flag is they never said ‘we’re a family,’ and they answered my questions well and honestly, like with the skill being difficult to find when I asked why the position was open. Nobody’s ever said we’re family, which is good considering the last job that called me that ghosted me when I wanted to get back to work after fracturing my ankle even though they said the job would be waiting for me when I got back.

Pretty much any time a hiring manager goes out of their way to ask something like how dedicated will you be to our company This usually really means I'm going to push you as much as I can without breaking you and anytime you throw a fit I'm going to tell you you're wrong because we're doing this all for the good of the company

I think it might be some sort of voice recognition software, because the errors feel like what I'd expect from auto-generated captions on videos.

@@codename618 It's definitely speech-to-text. I get a giggle out of the errors sometimes. It reminds me of live captioning in a way. (Also fun to watch for errors.)
