I love Italy and Italians" so I felt super welcomed :) I love living in England, great place to be, loving the open-ness to different countries culture and how foreigns can actually socialise within the local community, something Italy should take as a good example and work on...

I am Italian but I know very well English mentality, and their way of living, as I lived overseas for many years, mainly in English speaking countries. Also I lived in London for 5 yrs. Well I must say that my Best friend for a life time was an English guy. In the beginning he was very distant and not very friendly but, after 1/2 years, we became so close that for me he was like part of the family, as much as I was part of his. He passed away in a tragic circumstance but trust me when I say that when my father died, I didn't cry as much as I did for my beloved Friend's sudden death. I love England I would give up my right arm to retire up there in Dorset. UK always in my mind. Love The Brits. Carus :-)

A cultural difference. Banter is such a big thing in Britain, and yet not fully understood by some 🇮🇹. In my opinion of keen observer who lived in England, banter is a way of accepting people into a social group, whether it be friends or peers at work. Normally the 🇬🇧 are from polite to over polite to strangers, but when the banter begins, usually when you get a nickname, be sure you moved from simple acquaintance to friend. The reason must be due to the self-deprecating humour (banting back is fine and well accepted), as well as a way to check your personality by your reaction. Btw, my nickname at work was Mr. RP. Why? Because, in order to be more accepted and totally adapted in a new enviroment, I used to stick to the received pronunciation I had forced myself to learn and practice for months on end as a student before getting the job, with awkward results. A foreigner who speaks unnaturally posh, in connected speech, and uses subjunctive forms when not strictly necessary😂. Eventually I got what I expected. Like, "Mr. RP, get some work done today, will you? No Italian two-hour lunch break, d'ya understand me, mate?"😂🇬🇧👏

Hahaha a brilliantly written definition and a funny example… thank you! It seems counterintuitive, but a Brit acquaintance making fun of you is usually a good sign, that you’re making friends with them and that they feel comfortable with you. I feel it also helps to keep you grounded; you’ll notice a lot of big British celebs are usually quite down to earth as their mates would never let them get too big for their boots I imagine 😆

Very interesting. I don't think there is a rule in Italy except perhaps for the Romans (=people from Rome). I come from Venice and I noticed Romans almost ALWAYS give a nickname when they barely know the person, usually on the ground of what one looks like or what s/he does within the first 24 hours of acquaintance that catches their imagination. As a high-school student I went to summer holiday with some Roman students and they came up with : . "the legionary soldier" : a guy of the group who wore a hat with white extensions . "Grisoo the dragon" : a guy of the group who had a very long-shaped face . "Duracell" : a girl of the group who had danced the whole night . ... I'm sure I'll remember another couple or so If you read Zero Calcare, a very famous cartoonist, you'll see his friends usually have nicknames such as "il cinghiale" (the wild boar) or "Secco" (Dry).

Yes, you're certainly coconuts! I used to live in London, came back to Italy and after 10 years and I had a child: all my English friends sent him a small present and either came to see him or invited us to England so that they could meet him. Can you think of anything more charming? Having them over in our holiday home for a short vacation is one of the highlights of our summers... unfortunately Covid has put this little pleasure of ours on hold, but we'll both get over it. Also in my opinion bith Brits and Italians have a good sense of humour... even though ours is way less subtle.

I've been to Italy quite a few times and love it. I have known many Italian people who have lived in the UK and have stayed friends with many of them. I think our two countries compliment each other well. I have always enjoyed travelling to other countries and meeting folks and I must say that I have been made to feel welcome. I hope that they feel welcome when visiting my country. I have a particular affection for Italy though, the history and art are fantastic but the chaotic Italian roads are pretty scary.

Our cultural background is somewhat a double-edged sword. It works that way for any kind of foreigner abroad. I actually live in Germany, I come from Northern Italy and I can relate to some things stated in the video, on many others I think it's just a matter of luck. North, South, cooking skills and so on it's not always true. British people don't get angry, but as example I can compare the Scottish people and their well-known temperament. Well I backpacked there in the past and I had the best fun of my life and met the kindliest people I can remember after many travels. On the other hand many people think Italians are stylish, well-behaved and so on and as Italian I can state that's not true, or if they do they just want to show you a side of the coin. Moreover as someone posted bunch of those examples lead sometimes to get scammed. Again being Italian is positive and negative, but I agree on the fact that without our political/work-problems I'd gladly move back for living-working there, now I just visit my family and I prefer being a tourist of my own homecountry(sadly). And please don't limit the definition of Italy to Rome,Milan and Como. They're the worst example, especially Rome being a tourist-trap. Better spend a more pleasant time in small locations, in the suburbs, that's what I'd suggest as Italian to people visiting our country. PS: I think the man at 2:00 got a special invitation, because he was probably trying to flirt with him, actually quite obvious lol

I live in Curitiba city, there is a neighbor town calls Colombo founded by Italians descendants in 1890 and the name is in honor for Christopher Columbus. I find that the major similarity of British and Italian is the dry humour and the ability laugh at themselves in dire moments. May be many do not agree, but this is what I found in knowing them. They remind me much of the Tuscans in some ways. My first wife was English, we lived 20 years together, I was the one to leave not her. It was hard at the beginning but then we started to understand our different way of thinking and find commonality. It was great, I have never forgotten.

Growing up in Italy and spending a decade in England I can say that: Italians know how to cook since an early age but the English have much more knowledge of international food. Italians drink after food, English before. Italians have fashion and expensive clothes but English street tyle keep inspiring them. English people are very classist, Italians way more. English people make up their accents to sound posher, Italians tend to use Latin. Comparing to Italy, English education system sucks, unless you go to private schools. England is almost bureaucracy free comparing to Italy. Italians are usually very active but cannot compete with some mix race the UK has generated. Brits tend to leave home quite early and share flats, Italians stay with their families until they get married. Brits spend 1h to spread fake tan, Italians tend to sun tun for two weeks before going to the beach for the first time Brits ask to repeat politely, Italians just repeat loudly. English coffee equals to a mug, Italian coffee equals to a sip. Some Italian pretend queue don't exist. Some Britons pretend there is noo need for ironing. Some Italians go as far as to use Versace tiles in their bathrooms. Some abrits go as far as to use carpets in their bathrooms. Both countries have love celebrities with strong foreign accent respectively. Tattoo culture was very common across the UK since the early 90s, now is the same in Italy Italians have more taboos when it comes to sex but they also feel more judged Since Reggaeton music started, people in Italy tend to study more Spanish Is very common for the Brits to speak only 1 language. Italians tend to go for holidays in the same places over and over. Gp Doctors in the UK tend to prescribe the same pills for different reasons . GP in Italy usually know your parents and grandparents and tend to prescribe pasta with no sauce. The Citizen Advise Bureau in the UK is not even a concept in Italy . Am I missing something ?

Really you should be asking the Italians, what they think of the "Scottish" "English" "Welsh" and the "Irish". They might be all part of Britain but the people are very different. This is also coming from an Italian Scot. When I am in Italy, my countrymen have different reactions to English, Scottish, and Irish people. When you say British to an Italian person they only think English.

Perché gli inglesi sono nati privilegiati linguisticamente? Be, non e' giusto e tanto meno corretto. Il popolo italiano dovrebbe volere bene e tenerci alla sua lingua valorizzandola a tutti i costi nel mondo. Non e' giusto che gli imperialisti ce l'abbiano sempre vinta tutto qua !
