That was awesome. All of it. The meals too. The window treatment made me want to go bank into the Trades, especially to be a craftsman. I want to make things like that. It almost brought a tear to my eye. And that cooking! 😮 I'm so hungry now.

Beautiful! Amazing handiwork! But why no insulation in roof?!? You insulated the ground floor-interrupting the house gaining earth-temperature that can somewhat temper the house. But uninsulated roof will constantly loose heat in winter, & gain heat in summer?….is there plan to insulate on top of roof, before putting new exterior? Also…are upstairs windows two panes with airspace, to prevent condensate? Wish there was a chronological list of videos-KZbin keeps shuffling.

Something to consider (unless I missed it in the video) is that all that glass is going to get covered in sap and dirt probably quicker than you might think. I believe the make ceramic coatings for windows, might be worth applying that before any build up occurs to make washing easier.

Rubio monocoat is a amazing product but as a furniture maker i would always choose for lacquer/ varnish. The downside of oil especially on floors is that it needs treatment every 2 years or so. Not just that but you will see marks much quicker then on a clear coat lacquer. I would choose for a base color, color the floor and then use lacquer as finish. Its also more costs effective
@im.empimp5 ай бұрын
Given the fact that they're going for a "rustic" look, I think the marks that will develop over time will just add more character to their desired aesthetic.

Did I miss that no insulation was installed anywhere throughout the floor or ceiling? If so this will be a cold room with massive heat loss in the winter.
@andreluydens26024 ай бұрын
Air is also insulating I saw a foot bewtween the roof and the ply wood
@radioactivebanana6774Ай бұрын
When they rebuilt the roof it was massively insulated. Actually overbuilt with 4" insulation and many other waterproof layers, two layers of plywood, one at the bottom and one on top of 2x4s, so they should be fine. The inside floor upstairs doesn't need insulation except for sound proofing and they have big logs so that works.
@Smudgie336 ай бұрын
The room looks lovely. Was a shame you couldn’t work with the existing log walls as whilst beautiful it’s now lost its essence/character. Now it looks like any new build, modern room. I still like it but not quite what you imagine a cozy log cabin to look like… xxx

Okay I am really confused about some things here. Did you glue those pieces to the window? What does that look like from the other side? I feel like it would look kind of cheap if you can see the glue. Also does the glue dry clear? And that was a thin line of glue which means there is space between the window and the wood so how are you suppose to clean this window as it gets grimy and bug crawl in there and die or poop. Isn't that going to just get disgusting or did you seal these pieces off somehow to prevent this??? The window looks beautiful but I can't help but wonder about the practicality or something like this.
@strale2162 ай бұрын
Why do you have insulation between the roof and plywood?
@ralfjr.6 ай бұрын
Shouldn't you have made two identical sets of decorations for the window? One on the inside and one on the outside.
@radioactivebanana6774Ай бұрын
Love your work but you really overbuild and add a lot of weight to the floor and walls. No need to cut slots and set up the huge grid pattern for the floor. After your first beams are laid, just screw in supports to that every 4 ft then lay plywood then the top floor.

You need the old Narrator/Translator... He made your channel...
@timschondorfer38146 ай бұрын

@louisfkoorts55906 ай бұрын
I would not go that far, to say the old narrator "Made" this channel. (Too much a combination of various talent, that makes this channel, I think. ) But I agree, that the "old voice" should not disappear. 🙏🏻 That will cause a great loss. One tend to feel some of the (young, but still...*) history* and continuity** ( coherent whole**) will be lost. - Without the previous "voice". However, I still give your comment a like. 👍🏻 I suggest new voice for running commentary, old voice for the deeper summaries 🤔😁 I hope I said something.... I don't speak English as my native language.
@IdahoShawn6 ай бұрын
@@louisfkoorts5590 You are right. These men are very talented and if it wasn't for that I never would have watched in the first place. However, getting rid of the original voice talent is a huge mistake, in my opinion, as I can no longer watch these videos (this being the 2nd one with the new voice) to the end...

how about protecting from overheating in summer and freezing in winter from those large roof windows? you should have some external protection. hail could also break the glass.
