Yes you can but often their post are not that clear in case of career path, unless you are a registered psychologist. Are u done with honours already or starting this year?

Thank you, doc, for sharing such an informative information and am really motivated. you mention an add on program within some of institution, what job titles aligned with this add on prgram. Can I have a list? would like the link as well you promise where one can register for jobs. Lastly can you be my Mentor. Just to share little how far I have gone with this journey. I volunteered at unisa as a student mentor in 2020-year program. Then after completed my honours with Unisa I got an internship as a Trainee Career Guidance Practitioner 2022 for one year. I am now working voluntary for Bumb'ingomso an HIV an Aids prevention as well as behaviour change and communication program. Offer the services within high school in the area where I stay as a specialist wellness counsellor as well as a mentor. Work collaboratively with life orientation teachers. I have registered with ASCHP. How is the recognition of getting employment with the registration with this professional board?

Thanks for the engagement, you can find the link on the description section. Not sure what add you are referring to, please clarify? I am still working on mentorship programme as I get a lot of requests one needs to think about it carefully so that it is effective. ASCHP are recognised by those in these bodies, but not so much so by health professionals registered with HPCSA, hence even medical aid does not recognise them. Not bad, not limited. I trust that answers your questions.

HI Kamogelo, i just spoke to Psychology HoD in few Universities and the general sentiments is that the University is unlikely to select to repeat if you already passed as they need to given new applicants a chance given the limited space. The advice is that you either do a new honours degree possibly at a different institute.

Good evening. Thank you for your video. I wanted to ask, I am currently studying psychology so I wanted to ask the kind of voluntary work that I can do besides being research assistant or mentor? Can I volunteer at schools maybe or children homes?

Hi Luyanda, you can volunteer anywhere you want to - schools are a bit tricky unless it is private instead of public, children homes are easy to get it, i don’t foresee problems with them. It all depends on what you want gain experience about and end results. You can also do counselling the sick through Hospivision (check them out), the reason I lean towards volunteering internally within HE is so that you focus on studies which play more critical role than volunteering experince.

Yes, you can but it will depend on the university and the format they take. Many interviews have been virtual due to COVID-19, but many are starting to return to face-to-face. Are you planning to study in SA for clinical? What are you currently doing?

I am considering doing it here but I need to know Cantonese language which is super hard for me😔 If I do MA Clinical Psychology that's accredited (can apply to be a licensed psychologist) in this country, am I going to be able to come back to SA and apply to be registered with the HPCSA?

@@lesegophetla120 Language will definitely play a critical role especially for masters in Psychology. The course is already hard studying in English, I can just imagine if you study in a foreign language (I see it with Cuban trained doctors). Check the video of a SA Psychologist who relocated to the UK, it might shed some light about the process of being accredited in another country and use it as a guide to plan your path.

Hi Lebogang, in principles, Institutes would not allow you to repeat what you passed. You can however apply for courses for non degree purposes or apply for an honours in another institute, but it has to be a different honours. However, you have not note that you cannot be accredited more than 50% of courses.

@@awethuzondi5273 interesting- I was wonder if the answer will determine whether you follow it or not. Scrubs are not common for psychologists, but if you work in the hospital and you wear it, I don't think anyone will have a problem with you😂. Important though to note about Uniforms is that places like correctional services require their psychologist to wear the Uniform similar to what prison wardens wear. In short we are not required to wear scrubs but any psychologist can wear one if not restricted

Mostly private, or ur government like NRF. See the video I did on 2024 bursaries, the companies mentioned can be checked annually as they advertise every year.
