Like my Microscope? here are a few affiliate links to the Microscopes I use or would recommend.:

This video was a spur of the moment video whilst I was taking apart a Seiko 6106 and inspecting under my microscope. The watch was barely running so on dismantling I filmed the components as I inspected them prior to cleaning.
I explain just how little amount of dirt and grime it takes to lower the performance of a watch or even stop it.
This watch is over 40 years old and probably only been opened up once or twice. the dirt you find inside will be mainly from dried oils , contaminants, hairs and sometimes worn parts.
I hope you can find this sort of video interesting.
If my videos have helped or inspired you into this hobby then I would be grateful if you could support the channel. A little goes a long way.

Hello sir great videos. Are you still around. I would love to ask you some questions about an old watch I have its from 1914 a WWI Hampden trench watch. It runs laying down but when I try to wear it it slows down or stops all together

Bro! As someone who's just getting into mechanical watches. I believe i just successfully diagnosed the problem with my watch while watching this video. I assume it has to do with needing a cleaning and something wrong is with the mainspring too.

Dunno if this would help, when doing those springs I cut a piece of glad wrap the clear one place on top of the area to work then start manipulatong. Just my thought.

I have used that method before and now still do if its on a watch model I have not worked on before with tricky springs.

This is ALL GOOD,but is for old or dirty watches. We are looking for answer for 3 Infantry watches,unworn clean,in display case.Digital displays all working and can be changed as in day date.But 3 hands in center not moving,though will turn with Crown.Hands not been touched so not rubbing on each other or catching at any point. One we can understand,but three !!!

I'm not sure if you are going to answer my question but what do you use to clean a watch if you don't have oil because I don't want to damage my watch or make it worse . Thanks

I have done quite a few cleaning videos. you oil on assembly and its necessary to keep friction to a minimum.

Hi Micheal, thank you again for the very useful video. As a beginner, I was wondering how did you learn about all of that, and particularly servicing a watch... did you learn only in autodidact ? Have you taken a course of something?... is there something that you would recommend or learning in autodidact with what is on the web is possible as well ? Thanks

It seems a lot is about common sense... but on the other hand, lubricating seem like something that need to be learned from good source... how did you learn about that ? Thanks again. I feel lost on how to lubricate a watch properly. Making a video on that would be time consuming but very useful...

Thank you for your comments. Firstly I am completely self taught and been shown nothing really . Just allot of practice . The more you do the better you get. Patience and determination is all you really need along with good tools to make it easier. I will one day make a video with me just talking about how I got into it all, that is if people wanted to see that. I relied on web forums at first for advise. Once I got good enough I started this channel to help others and get them past some of the pain I learnt early on. My Facebook group is also a very good resource to talk to fellow enthusiasts , tinkerers and also professionals willing to share their knowledge for the good of the hobby. Lubrication is hard and the most basic but important factor is less is best! Good oil will go along way despite its very heavy price tag. I can show some oiling which I do on some videos but it’s subjective as some would say it’s too little and vice Versa . Bergeron do auto oiling tools , I have one but I don’t like it. They do take the pain away but be prepared for the price.... they do come up second hand on eBay though . With this hobby the best way to start is to actually do it. I always recommend Seiko as they are cheap for old ones , parts are plentiful and well built so you learn the basics easily. I always recommend my 6309 series of videos too to follow along with .

Dropped my grandfather's 1911 Elgin last week. Now it keeps stopping. Had it my entire life and never had a hang-up until now. Can't imagine how frustrating it is figuring out what's wrong with it. About ready to send it off to a professional.

My mechanical watch runs accurate when laying flat on the table, but can´t keep up time when I wear it ?
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 2 жыл бұрын
So many things this could be. It might be a broken staff to a balance issue.
@sorenutube
@sorenutube 2 жыл бұрын
@@MyRetroWatches Thanks, I might have found the answer myself, though, as the watch stops immediately when it is faced down flat; so could be the second hand then touches the crystal - due to the fact that the clockwork also has litte slippage in the case, given away by a minimal rattle. Guess I have to find a watchmaker :)
