Most of the gaming phones like iqoo are always very cheap compared to other flagships, Sony on the other hand is always on the expensive side of phones so if new Xperia comes it’ll obviously be more expensive than most of the competitors thus it’ll probably fail.

one thing about older xperia smartphones is that they all came with a super thick screen protector, so altough the old xperia play is full of screen scratches, if you look really close, it's just a screen protector that if you remove will reveal a brand new screen

I had one of those. At the end of its life, it had an SD card partitioned to be swap partition and storage, it had a sick custom ROM called Xperia Play Z, and a ton of emulators. I surely miss it, but also, the fact that it only had 512 MB of RAM is a travesty. Great video. It brought a ton of memories from almost 11 years ago.

I had 2 Xperia PLAY, for a total of 5 years. and I absolutely LOVED it. just slide it open and start game wherever the hell I currently am. Minecraft Pocket Edition was especially fun, though the performance wasn't great.. generally the availability of games was quite limited unfortunately. Definitely a great phone though, felt much better to use than the thin rectangles we got nowadays, though I do stick to Sony Xperia for good reasons to this day. Hell, my XA2 is going on 6 years now and still going very strong..

Internal storage is only 256mb. That's right, megabytes. You can put in an SD card but it is also only small and won't play games off it.

With the build in emulator back in the days you needed to convert your iso files to make them compatible. It was reverse engineered by Yifan Lu. Some games were broken. The other alternative was FPSE or psx4droid which has very bad compabilty. Epsxe didn't exist yet for the first few months. I even started compabilty list back in the days on FPSE. Oh the good old days ! :D

I had a Xperia Play back in the day and when PPSSPP came out, the only game I could've technically ran was Persona 3 Portable and it wasn't a great experience. PS1 was fine though. I beat Max Payne, GTA 3, MGS1 and Persona 3 Portable on my phone back then, it was my gateway to some great games, Max Payne especially, I was 12 when I had it and the Max Payne series had became one of my favorite series through me playing the first one on that phone 12 years ago. I've only had two non Sony Phones since I've just become a diehard fanatic for their phones, waiting on a 1 IV (I ain't splashing flagship money) now, a major upgrade from my 10 III I've had for 2 years now.

Hi comrad! Glad to see another retro Sony device video. Got my Xperia Play around 2015. Bought it used in white casing, broken, fixed it (touchscreen didn't work due to worn out ribbon cable between sliding parts) and used it as my main smartphone for a year and a half. It allowed me to finish a few snes and ps1 games, but the lack of ram made it too frustrating to use as my main smartphone. Anyway, found a fresh battery and official dock for it. Even ordered a gorgeous navy blue colour R800at from a US seller, but was never able to unlock it for use with any sim card because all such services were already disabled at that point. Anyway, another Sony device I'm happy to have.

I will forever think of this phone as one of those really cool ideas for a phone but in reality not very practical for everyday use I used to have one ages ago, I sold it soon after as I found way too heavy and chunky to carry in my pocket everyday and had a ridiculously small amount of onboard memory- instead got the much thinner and lighter Samsung galaxy s2 I was much happier 😄 I have now brought the powkiddy rgb 30 which is a small handheld device for retro games it came with a 128 gb sd card full of games including over 600 ps1 games and 300 psp games!

I remember there was a Tool on XDA which let u convert every Ps1 rom u want to Ps Pocket. With the cover u chose u saw it like the only original available 5 Games in the List. My, which I still have is rooted, with custom Rom, with the DoomKernel and overlocked to 1,5Ghz and runs great. Those 1 GHz Snapdragon I tried to overlock to 2Ghz and only about 30 min it ran hot and crashed! Best for emulation, also old converts like Jedi Knight2 and Return to castle Wolfenstein were the games I played on it. If u know the right Emulator it will run nearly every game, Sega Cd, Pc Engine Cd, Ps1 and so on….

Touchpad buttons are needed for MOBA games to release the abilities where you want on the aeria ( instead AB buttons, specific how you have on the screen 4 buttons+ attack)

Because of it I’m a Sony fanboy and still using Sony smartphone today My Xperia Play is a valuation unit (not for sale) with some testing software and minor differences in casing and sliding mechanism. Sadly the touch screen stopped working and I have no way to bypass the lock screen… still a nice desktop clock tho

I have 3 Sony Xperia Play I bought last year. They’re all original. Came in the original box with all the original accessories. A big bonus was there was the receipt of the date of purchase in 2011 a person bought it from the store and he kept the receipt since 2011 in the box till 2023 and I have the receipt. You won’t see this anywhere i can’t believe someone kept the old receipt on the first day for so many years. I got lucky having the old receipt of the date of purchase when it first came out. I love it and I will keep it forever as a memory and a collection.

i had this phone, it was amazing for playing, emulators, games.. but as a phone... it sucked hahaha the phone app constantly crashed and had to reboot, but hey, I was able to play final fantasy tactics while on route to work and back for home.

I don't know why xperia is now focused more on premium camera phones now. if ever Sony do this again as a remote play device for ps4/ps5, it would sell . just give it best wifi chip just a mid range 5g chip would do, give it a matte back cover even if it is plastic, no need of water proofing just like back then. a 1080p 5.8" amoled screen and front facing speakers and a headphone jack,. that would be a dream. it's okay if it doesn't come with the portal's haptic feedback. it's a phone too so pricing it at 499 or 599 would be reasonable... unlike the portal that without a reliable connection it's a paperweight, this can be used with emulation . and it would be nice if sony invest on a mobile division to develop games for this but yeah xperia is very different now.
