I don’t think anyone cares if the lighting and sound aren’t perfect. They are here for the encouraging voice.

I’ve been with my troop 25 years. My goal as Scoutmaster is to keep everyone safe. This past February (Mardi Gras weekend), we backpacked the Appalachian Trail starting on a Friday night and hiking every day until Tuesday afternoon and returning to Louisiana. We had great weather Friday through Sunday night. It began raining at 9:30 Sunday night and didn’t stop until 10:00 p.m. Monday. Our Sunday campsite just happened to be next to a famous Trail Angel who feeds all Appalachian Trail hikers free of charge. He had a huge tarp set up and he fed our 18 for breakfast in a torrential downpour. Rather than pack up soaking wet tents and hike 10 miles on Monday, we shuttled ahead 10.3 miles and walked back to our Sunday night campsite. We hiked those 10.3 miles in a constant rain. During a break in the rain, we took down the campsite, found an open hostel with cabins, spent Monday evening drying out our boys, clothes, and tents, and slept in a warm building when the outside weather dropped below 30 degrees. Tuesday we went back to the trail and finished our hike over Blood Mountain into Neel Gap. It was chilly yet sunny Tuesday. Many of my scouts had never hiked 50 miles nor hiked in the rain. Not a single person complained about the weather. Our troop will be back on the AT next Mardi Gras. It was a great trip.

I've recently returned from NOAC 2024 (my first) and our lodge brought a contingent of 25. At the OA Trading Post I picked up a book titled "The Life of E. Urner Goodman A Thing of the Spirit" by Nelson R. Block. I'm about 1/2 through the book, and I thoroughly recommend it to my fellow OA brothers. I serve as an ASM and MB Counselor and one of my MB topics is Scouting Heritage. This book is excellent background information for that MB. It would even be a good read for any high school-age student looking for a biography to use for a book report, etc.

It will make for some interesting content.

The focus of this channel has always been exclusively for the Boy Scouts of America, BSA (Scouting America). We often think about and discuss other countries that are part of the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM). As your comment points out there are a lot of other youth groups that are out there and comparing programs that are not the same would be an endless job. I tried to service the subjects and concerns of the BSA adult leaders exclusively. I appreciate your suggestion and contribution to our discussion in our community. Every youth program you listed has its good points and I believe it would be more of the recruitment discord that would be inconsistent with our goals on this channel. YIS⚜
