What Disney / Pixar's 'Cars' could learn from Hyperion Pictures' 'The Brave Little Toaster'.
This is also in part an indirect response to 'Why Cars is a Conceptually Bad Franchise' by Schaffrillas Productions.
If you want to see The Brave Little Toaster Worthless scene, check it out here in HD:

While I can praise Brave Little Toaster to the moon and back, (especially the music, oh my go it's so good) and could see how the Cars franchise could have been more dynamic and interesting - I do like how they built a "car" version of a universe. While the plot isn't served by them being cars in any way, the visuals and the way cars interact in human-like ways with the world can be interesting by it's own merit, somewhat. Great video!

Well these “ideas” are brilliant. Dear Pixar: Notice this video, and get this guy on the next movie. A movie about a stock car, unknown to his owner that he’s being tortured. A stock car that escapes. That leaves the world of the track. A car that wants to stick with nature, not race on a loop over and over and over. One that wants to live, not just win.

finally, a guy on youtube whose understanding of The Brave Little Toaster runs a little bit deeper than the tired old "discount Toy Story" take. Very interesting proposal brought up in this video, and I do agree that Cars could have worked a little bit better if it borrowed some world building ideas from tblt.

BTW as you probably know based on this video and any info you will fi d in the movie it is based on mental health the song worthless is about suic*ide, I think the air conditioner killed himself so yeah. It talks about depression and mistreatment. The used appliance store is basically an analogy for a mental hospital or jail. Perhaps rehab places like that.

My idea: keep the "human are long gone and cars have their own society" theme, and use wall-e as the explanation for why humans disappeared, but then show the cars actually missing the humans and dealing with their absence in unique ways. Some cars are happy to be independent, others are lost and without a sense of purpose. Some build churches and worship the humans who made them, shouting prophecies about their potential return. Others wonder what is the source of their lives, while having no idea the humans made them to be tools and left without even discovering they came to life by accident. Would like the game "nier automata" but with more wheels.

This can also be related to Thomas the Tank engine, in some of the earlier seasons theres a reoccuring theme of an engine's brothers and sisters getting scrapped no matter their efforts

Exactly. Mostly around season 3-4 we had that idea of: these characters exist in a world where they are loved and cherished, while the rest of the world is eager to get rid of them to make way for the future.

In a way, The Brave Little Toaster IS in Pixar's catalogue. John Lasseter -- employed by Disney in the mid-1980s -- wanted to make it using CGI to create the backgrounds, and when he went around some of his supervisors to negotiate directly to the higher-ups, he ended up stepping on their toes -- ten minutes after his pitch was rejected, his boss called him into his office and fired him. From there he would join Pixar, but it's pretty obvious TBLT, Toy Story, and even some of the original 80s Pixar shorts like Tin Toy and Knick-Knack, were all based around the idea of "what does our stuff do when we're not there?"

I do like that Cars 3 tried to expand on the idea as “growing old” here is being outclassed by the newer rookies as technology advances, Lightning McQueen was built was a racecar, but he’s only gonna be as good as the technology of his time will allow him to be.

I do like your idea of what Cars could have been, you know like, vehicles being treated however they are, assembled, shown in a show room, bought, driven, repaired, crashed, abused, and then eventually, scrapped. While I like that idea, I like Cars the way it is right now. I'm not trying to disrespect your idea, I'm just trying to voice my opinion, and I hope you respect it.

They both approach a very similar concept and I'm weighing the qualities of both angles and which would create a more interesting dynamic for the Cars concept than we see in the final product. The release years are honestly irrelevant, both movies hold up terrifically in their narratives and themes, I just think the way Toaster goes about its 'everyday items are alive' premise opens more exciting avenues for the world building of Cars.
@Nausicaafan-go6lq
@Nausicaafan-go6lq 3 жыл бұрын
I completely disagree. I like the cars universe better because it gives the vehicles rights, and when it's their time to go, they aren't murdered in the scrapyards against their own will. No, instead they die with respect, Like Doc and Stanely. Plus, the only reason cars is looked down upon today is because of the bad decision that was Cars 2. The good news is, however, that Cars 3 tried to fix that.
