I go to used bookstores looking for Catholic classics, usually written by saints: Julien of Norwich, Hildegard von Bingen, Teresa of Avila, Brother Lawrence, and especially St. Francis of Assisi. They are real treasures! I also like to read the encyclical of the popes.

Same! I love finding Catholic treasures at thrift stores and used book stores. All of the papal encyclicals are available for free on line, but I do like to have a paper copy :)

I'm not too surprised about books by Bishop Barron being a hard resell. I think he may just be too esoteric for many people, especially when he gets into philosophy. I think my favorite Catholic author is Dr. Brant Pitre, and it doesn't surprise me that people want his books--they are very readable and very well researched.
@catholicmomanddaughter7 ай бұрын
I think you are right, Margaret. Also a Dr. Pitre fan here!

Yes, very deep theologically.

I am not surprised by Fulton Sheez, JP2, and Baron... they are DEEP! So, it might be difficult to read for the average reader... I guess...

Yes- that's what we think, too. They can be hard to read.

I’m in the process of converting to Catholicism. I’ve got to say Bishop Baron is way too intellectual for me! Father Casey is too young for me 😂 Trent Horn and Scott Hahn are very logical and clear. I found 33 Days at a church yard sale and I was so excited! I liked this video a lot. ❤️
@catholicmomanddaughter7 ай бұрын
Thank you, Sarah! I wasn't sure if this would be an appealing topic- but since we are huge book lovers here, it was a fun video to make. I would also be excited to find a book like 33 days at a church yard sale!

Bishop Baron is an acquired taste. You need a certain level of knowledge then you begin to appreciate him.That was my experience anyway

Dynamic Catholic books are excellent but not readily available in UK.
@catholicmomanddaughter7 ай бұрын
Yes- the more you read, the more you get used to his style. We found that also when reading the Catechism in a Year last year; it took a while to get used to it!

That is too bad! Many of the books are so good.

This was just so very interesting. A lot of converts mention Scott hahn so I'm not surprised. I am surprised abt JPII, he's so loved. I just love devotionals & thought others did too. I appreciate you so, so much for being here !

I wonder if Bishop Barron doesn't sell well is because of his presence on youtube, and his DVD set of "Catholicism". I am glad to see C.S. Lewis on your list, but where the heck is G.K. Chesterton? I also read alot of Pope Benedict the XVI , but mainly only the encylicals of Pope John Paul II. I just love Chesteron and Ratzinger.
@catholicmomanddaughter23 күн бұрын
That is a question we often ask, too: Where is Chesterton? We see so little of him all around... I don't think we've ever had any of his work donated to the library. I've heard more than once that he is the most underrated Catholic writer of the 20th century, and I agree. His work is wonderful! Right now we are reading an Advent devotional called "Winter Fire" that is based on his works, and it is just delightful. His poem about Lepanto is also a favorite here. Glad to hear from another of his fans 😀

I looked for your site. Believe I found it. Checked books for sale ,they had your tag. A lot of your books are old. Old is good, but with no description a person would skip over it. Also look at your customers. Lots of books written for young people, young mom's, young families. Maybe a web site(simple) describing what you have. Sonja Corbitt, Vinita Hampton Wright, Charles Chaput, &Robert Cardinal Sarah( boy can he write, like a drink of spring water...he is very good)- these are some names I read. Danielle Bean of girlfriends podcast also is an amazing writer. Fun on the podcast, compassionate in her writing. Oh yes, Susan Muto( Womanessence , was a fave). I buy at 2nd hand sites and stores. Never been disappointed. But affordable books are everywhere in my house! Thanks, some suggestions.

I thank you for this book list. But I do have a question I have been looking for the 33 Days to a morning Glory, is it for sale? And if so what would it cost? I also enjoy and have Joanna Weaver books (and Having a Mary heart in a Martha world) is 1 of my favorite's I thin I might have 2 copies (the second at a book sale) I enjoyed this and would like to see/hear about more books. Thank you💜🙏

Bishop Barron, Pope Benedict, Fr. Martin, Mary Reed Newland, Bryan O’Doyle, Flannery O’Connor. I’m very thankful for the mission of Dynamic Catholic and the content of their books, but do not care for the writing style.
