One of my cats loves it, sniffs it, gets relaxed or sometimes gets the zoomies afterwards. The other one eats it and naps afterwards & the 3rd one is disinterested. I also grow cat thyme ( which isn’t really a thyme) and all 3 of them absolutely LOVE it. They gnaw and roll against. It ended up dying from all the love they gave it so I bought a few more but now I grow it off the ground in hanging baskets & give them any trimmings to calm them down if they’re stressed.

While awaiting one of my cat-os spay appointments, i discovered that the episodic screaming-restlessness of being in heat were significantly reduced/relieved by a pinch of dried catnip for my girl to sniff and roll around in. It gave her a fiver of rolly-pollies and then 3-4 hours of peace from the heat symptoms. That's the only way she could calm down and sleep during the Hell spell. 🙏🏼

Won't have catnip in the house again, and I have to check toys before I buy them to make sure they're not hiding it. No idea what my little cat was seeing or feeling, but she wailed for half an hour like she was TERRIFIED. I felt awful, like I'd dosed my child with LSD! I've seen other cats have crazy cravings for the stuff, but nah, never again.

My late Cocoa never handled it well, either. He was paranoid and upset while it was in effect and kept yowling for me to hold him. His brother, Thai, did the full on "oh yeah!!" zoomies and had a royal ball lol. There's just never any telling how they'll react until they try it.

I hesitate as well. I find it so darned annoying that Petsmart has limited cat toys. However, when you find one that looks like your fur child would like it, it labeled stuff like Meowijuana, Meowy wowie , silver leaf? My kitty was attracted to the toy, because of it….it made an adorable Christmas pic , the scent wore off and yeah, I don’t get it either. My husband said after I went to bed , kitty put a tiny lamp shade n his head and danced around. I don’t believe it, as my husband has had a considerable amount of meowy wowie in his youth. 😂

YES THANK YOU... It always confuses me when catnip is so endorsed by supposed cat lovers because when I tried it with two of my cats over the years, they had such POWERFUL and strange reactions (granted, some cats seem to do somewhat fine with it). I remember snot bubbles, drooling all over themelves (we had to give them baths aferwards because half their fur was matted from saliva), strange wailing, and just psychotic-looking ongoing reactions until they were exhausted... ANYTHING you give any living being that affects them to that degree/extent isn't good in my eyes. Imagine if your children reacted that way to some substance... Even if it didn't harm them physically, you'd be horrified and assume that it was probably affecting them mentally-detrimentally. Like bath salts.

Most of my 5 cats love catnip as well as valerian and silvervine (matabi). Growing both catnip and valerian in my garden. So nice to eat parts of plants and then fall asleep between them. In the Netherlands we have sleepy time tea with valerian. Need to be careful not to leave my tea stand too long unattended otherwise see a cat dip a paw in it. I rip one of the bags and put it on one of their mats, they just love it.

I am new to cat nation. My husband and I just rescue a grey domestic shorthair female named Lollipop. my husband is dead set against Catnip, and I think i agree. It does seem like it is pot for cats. I am not sure I would give it to my Lollipop unless she develops behavioral problems or when we rescue a dog. I think she may need it then...😊

My cat would grasp his catnip mouse with both paws, press the mouse to his nose, and start huffing. After 10 seconds of huffing he would drop the mouse and run around the house for several minutes then return to huffing the mouse. He would repeat until he grew tired and crashed.

I grew fresh catnip in my garden years ago. When I harvested it, I didn’t use gloves and it sent me into extreme Vertigo for several days. If you are sensitive to these things,remember to use gloves when handling. Funny, but I never got the zoomies. 😵‍💫

I use catnip as a mosquito repellant. Now that the plants are large, I haven't had trouble with mosquitos more than three times last year. P.S. Some of the images in this video are catmint and not catnip. They have similar effects, but they aren't the same plant.

About a year ago, I gave my 19 YO Female fresh grown catnip for the first time in her life. She seemed to like it and went to sleep. the next day she acted like she had a seizure. this went on for about a week where she could no longer even walk anymore and I had to put her down. Was she too old for this? I do not know.. But I feel that I should NEVER use Fresh catnip on a feline ever again.

Ya know, I found that my cat has the same exact reaction to catnip when I bought it in a large container.. she hissed at it and did that little side step growl!! Now when I get her a small bag of SmartyCat, she loves it.. plays like a kitten again until it eventually knocks her out and she’ll sleep for hours!! Cat Mint is sold in nurseries as "Nepeta", and while it can turn cats on, it's an entirely different plant from catnip. I've seen catnip grown in a pot, and it looks entirely different from cat mint. I have cat mint in my garden, and while its leaves do look exactly like those shown in the video, they don't resemble catnip, at all. Catnip looks like blades of grass, growing straight up with no leaves and no texture. I've seen both, and they are definitely different.
