This is actually really interesting. Everyone always talks about how much cancer cells love sugar, but this is the first time I've heard about fat, and cancer research used to be my job. I wish the cancer research department I used to work in would have considered diet at all in their work. It was taboo to talk about anything that wasn't T-cells (including other immune cells, sadly.) From the work I did, it seems that one of the reasons why treatment can drive metastasis is because the treatment kills off the weaker cells, but if it isn't strong enough to kill all the cells, we're naturally selecting for the more resistant cells in a person's body, and once the treatment is done and the pressure is taken off those surviving cells, they have an ideal environment to proliferate and spread, which can happen very quickly in some cases. This was something that made my work very frustrating since the treatment I was helping to develop wasn't particularly strong to begin with. They can't all be winners (and most of them won't be. Cancer is a very difficult problem to tackle.)

I think we need to read the studies. Usually "high fat" in research does not mean high fat low carb 0 sugar. it usually means high fat high sugar (simple carbs). Some recent studies actually make a distinction but every old study and most new ones do not.
@m0L3ify Жыл бұрын
Maybe, but when you compare a high-fat and control group where only the fat content in the food is changed, and you see a difference, the variable is the dietary fat and causation can be inferred. Obviously it's going to depend on whether the study is a very controlled animal study, a very controlled human study in a medical facility, or self-reported diet from people just living their lives. But when it's done in animals, experimental and control food are very carefully matched. Vendors will even sell them pre-made so it's easy to order and you don't have to go back and forth on the phone with a rep, which I have done for custom orders where a drug was added to the food. But for a widely used generic chow like high fat, it's going to be made ready to order. I also know that in diabetes studies in monkeys on a campus I used to work at, the high fat food did not have a lot of sugar in it, and they had to add high fructose corn syrup to the diet to make the monkeys fat because, even though they developed Type 2 on the high fat diet, they were still skinny and thus not a good model of human obesity for publication. Which does lend credence to dietary fat alone being a cause of disease. The researchers weren't initially giving them sugar to induce disease. They gave them sugar later to make them fat independent of the disease so they could publish their results because journals want everything to be obesity-related even though skinny people can get diabetes, too. So, yes, read the papers. That's always a good idea. If the Materials and Methods section mentions specific brand of food used, which it should for reproducibility, you can easily look that up to find out what the ingredients and nutrition content are. But do keep in mind that if the sugar content of both experimental and control are the same, and a significant difference is found, the culprit is very likely the only changed variable in the equation - the fat.

No I do not believe it is. Fat storages in humans "The fat stored is in a semi-liquid state, and is composed primarily of triglycerides, and cholesteryl ester." So this is not the type of Fat Dr. Greger is talking about in this video. Though excess weight does lead to a higher chance of cancer like Happy Cook already said. But this is due to the inflammatory nature of fat storages damaging cells and membranes and with it doing more damage than our body can repair in a certain amount of time. So overweight increase the load on our repair / damage balance mechanisms and with that increase the odds that they miss something or do not attent to it on time before it gets into the first mutation fase and becomes untracable by our natural defenses.

@@MissMarinaCapri Looks like eggs and canola oil don't contain much saturated fat compared to flesh, dairy, or palm oil. That said, Greger has a ton of videos on his site that discourage people eating flesh, eggs, dairy, and all types of oils (some more than others). I think it all depends on how serious one is about health. Someone super serious will pursue a 100% whole food, plant-based diet that is as fresh as possible, plus a B12 supplement, with no animal products, no oils, etc. This way you get the most quality nutrients per calorie with the least risk. If you're playing the comparison game and have set an arbitrary standard of what's acceptable and what's not, then raw oils with low saturated fat will beat cooked, canola will beat palm, and so forth. Eggs I can't really in a "lesser of evils" lifestyle. While part of me wants to say they have less saturated fat and are therefore better than say, steak and cheese, you'll still find high levels of estrogen and other reasons to avoid eggs (I highly recommend checking out Michael Greger's website and typing in whatever specific thing you are interested in, like eggs, oil, cheese, etc) In short, while I'd *definitely* avoid flesh, dairy, eggs, and palm oil, I'd *try* to avoid or at least limit unideal things like oil in general.

@@MissMarinaCapri Cheese has a high percentage of fat since it is concentrated milk. Doctors recommending a plant based diet discourage the use of all oils. Ketosis puts you in an efficient fat burning state, which may actually result in less fat in the blood, less fat in general, and thus less fat available for cancer to utilize. Just a theory, though. Are high-fat fruits and vegetables (like avacados) cancer fighting or cancer promoting?
@DanzeMusic3 жыл бұрын
Interesting theory, but from my own experience, seems to me like carbs/sugar are more likely to be the villain instead of fat. Both my parents and my elder brother died from cancer, both my mom and brother had metastasise, and I was with them at least 8 hours a day when they were having treatments while they were dying at the hospital, so I know exactly what their diets and routines were like. My mom ate very little fat, if any, in fact she was craving carbs and sugar like crazy for the last year of her life when the cancer began to spread. In the last month before she died, she was eating nothing but fruits, sweet things and high starchy food. My brother, on the other hand, was hardly eating anything as his cancer was in the throat, so he wasn’t able to swallow any solid food at all, so all he ever got were those nutrients supplement drinks or drips which had no fat, still his cancer spread and sadly passed away within 2 months at the age of 55. So from my own experience, I really cannot agree that a high fat diet is the cause for Metastasise.

So... Gregor... It says it's also 20-30% of fats in breast milk, are there any studies on the CD36 in vegan mother's breast milk? Also fat content changes in breast milk day to day and supposedly drops off the older the infant becomes, do CD36 levels remain 20-30% ? At what stage in the infant's life were the samples taken? Are levels that high because mothers are ingesting and passing it on or is it naturally produced at that level regardless? We're a fully vegan family now for long enough to be made of nothing but plant based life forms (as regards the supposed seven year cycle) if you need volunteers for a study.

I don't think fat itself is the causer of cancer but can be an accelerator defo. We know fat itself doesn't necessarily cause cancer since the hunzas had a diet very high in saturated fats and cholestrol but the difference between us and them is they had real quality meat, they would eat very little but their food was very nutritious, their food was very high in nutrition due to their soils behind one of the richest soils. Cancer is caused by oxidation from these all these oils leading to free radical damage leading to mutations, inflammation which can come from these oils and a poor diet in general and nutritional deficiencies. I say this since most people are deficient in most minerals compared to our ancestors and nutrients make an astronomical difference in your bodies defense system. Nutrients such as selenium, zinc, copper, vit D and many more. these nutrients I mentioned are significantly required for the immune system defense but these are the ones alot of people are deficient in. Imagine if we had all the nutrients in higher amounts, just from that alone cancer rates would drop alot lower but our soils are not as nutrient dense anymore due to all these herbicides and not treating the soil in the manner it's supposed to be treated
@blueraven00752 жыл бұрын
Soils have only changed by about 15% in nutrient quality from what I’ve read, and lots of people take supplements now anyway. Not sure how far back you’re going. Greek physicians advocated for a diet light in fat (Galen)
@sohailislam34162 жыл бұрын
@@blueraven0075 no it’s much more than that and even 15% is huge. We’re also missing a lot of trace minerals which are essential for health such as selenium which is a common deficiency. Secondly, of course the Greeks weren’t right about everything, the fatty things like butter and organs are the most nutrient dense things we have, it’s been disproven that saturated fat causes heart disease

@@sohailislam3416 you should read the studies for yourself before trusting what people say on the internet and make sure you really understand them. A famous study on butter was flawed and compared people with already high levels of cholesterol, who ate butter, to people who ate coconut oil, another saturated fat. And not MCT, full coconut oil. It’s not possible to have free access to most of the studies without going to a university and getting a library card. Have you, yourself, seek the nutrition information about butter? Actual numbers for vitamin a and k, and any omega fats? And vitamin a should not be in international units but in RAE. And look for the appropriate serving size. How about vitamin k? How much are in there? There are wildly more efficient sources of both than butter. Don’t believe things people write on the internet if you haven’t actually seen and understood the information yourself, and don’t tell other people to jeopardize themselves because of that. You might need research studies to find the true information of grass-fed pasture raised butter. From what I’ve seen, it’s not a nutrient dense source in terms of calories. @user-bv7mk8id5t2 жыл бұрын
If the food is Whole Foods form it’s prob fine, if it’s processed into fat then it’s a no. Not sure about foods such as almond butters though. Coconut oil is a no, avocado oil is a no, but avocados should be fine. I only know this because I’ve heard him say it a dozen of times! But if you don’t have cancer I would not worry too much. But I would say keto diet isn’t balanced. I tried this for a short time and it was nearly impossible to do it on a vegan diet for me. Plus I couldn’t justify putting all this fat and oil into my food and I stopped immediately! But my numbers did go up as well and it made me mad since I was working out and doing my best to be healthy. This very moments I am battling stage one breast cancer. I can’t watch this video because him saying a biopsy could make this cancer spread is scaring the crap out of me. I’m not sure what I’ll do yet but I feel my time is running out. I’m sure a lot of people had to deal with this, but I never thought I would be here. Now I have to put my life in the hands of these doctors and these killer treatments and possibly losing my body part and maybe my life, even though what I have is slow. So won’t be watching this video unfortunately. Lastly I can also say he wouldn’t agree on a keto diet even if it’s vegan. Best of luck.
