What circuit keeps the brain running? !! BASAL GANGLIA !!
In this video, we discuss what the basal ganglia does for the cortex of the brain, and how it has an excitatory role and an inhibitory role, and these function somewhat separately on each side of the brain. We discuss the difference between the Basal Ganglia, the Cerebral Cortex, and the Cerebellum functionally. The Basal Ganglia is several linked relays that yearn to help the brain either fire up or be quiet, and these have symptoms that can be understood.
This video is for any layperson who wants to learn more about the deeper structures of the brain and how they differ from the surface or cortex of the brain for a deeper understanding of new terms and locations in the brain.

Look to youtube from doctors in functional neurology that are certified on ACNB.org in the doctor locator. I will try to do more of these too.

Hi !! I have been under neuro Dr care after being diagnosed with two strokes after a Traumatic Brain injury. I do not understand how some of my symptoms - short term memory issues, being the worst - haven't gotten better. I am struggling. I want to be myself again. Is it possible to go back - EVER ?? Thank you, Amie

The ACNB.org has a dr locator tab to find rehab doctors who work with stroke recovery naturally. Neuro PTs, OT and speech therapists are also good at this. Dont forget keto diets have helped many brain conditions including stroke.

Can a stroke to the left basal ganglia cause emotional and physical problems? Such as unexplained depression and anxiety. Sudden insomnia and loss of appetite?

That is entirely possible. Sometimes neurofeedback and brain rehab can help. I like high resolution SPECT imaging for basal ganglia.
