Well, this just got a bunch of views, so I figured I'd write a comment to address what appears will be a FAQ: What did CFS have to say? Despite how bad the the Puma logos (and potentially the nameset) are now in hindsight, at the time I got the shirt I blindly trusted them and just hung the shirt. I hadn't realised until a friend came over and I showed him. At that point even if I was in time to return the shirt, given my distance to the UK and the hassles of paying and organising the returns (done it before with them, wasn't in the mood to do it again), I took the loss and kept the shirt. Returning the shirt also doesn't really solve much, and isn't the point of the video! They would've just re-uploaded it like they did with previous returns i've had with them. This video is more so about their lack of clarity in photos and product descriptions. If an absolute nerd like me hadn't bought it, they would've happily sold this for an absurd price to someone else and he/she would've never found out. Maybe i'm just cynical, but i've seen plenty of shirts on their site i would've bought if they didn't have dodgy looking namesets. With the amount of blind trust they have in the space, combined with the prices they charge, the responsibility is on them to be transparent. This purchase was long before I started this channel, which is something I am doing to help others by using info i've learned along the way of searching for shirts i love. Like I said in the video, I'd still trust CFS in the space, but they need to do better, and if you're looking to buy older shirts, ask for more info, because what happened to me can happen to you too. If your takeaway is that I'm somehow the villain in this, do as you please, but very strange!

Personally i have made a few purchases from cfs in the past 2/3 years, with my 2 most premium shirts being a gerrard 07/08 lfc shirt, and a zidane 04/05 madrid shirt. ive always felt they are the most reliable in the business and have never had any issues myself, however i do dislike their use of the same images for multiple listings of a shirt, aswell as their very generalised descriptions and lack of close-up shots of any pulls, nicks etc. on the whole this video definately made me think a little more about what im buying from them in the future

Informative video - well done. As a longtime Vancouver Whitecaps fan (1978 to be exact) who also has a deep interest in football kits, I challenged CFS on a posting for what was claimed to be an authentic Whitecaps team shirt. The shirt they posted on the CFS site in no way resembled any kit I have ever seen worn by the team, or fans. The design was wrong, I had never seen another shirt like it anywhere else, and even the style of Admiral logo didn't fit with the era and was never used on any Whitecaps shirt. As a close watcher of all things Admiral, I noticed the logo wasn't quite right - the hoop at the top of the trademark was slightly too large. I mentioned my concerns to CFS on a number of occasions and they took down the shirt while they said their experts would look into my claims. Then they re-posted the shirt again, claiming the shirt was original, in their estimation. I then challenged them on two other occasions, sending them examples of photos showing authentic shirts from the era in question. On my last enquiry - a few months ago - CFS replied the shirt was, again, claimed to be authentic, but cut the price in half, and added information on the website description, posting that the shirt was not one widely used. This episode has detracted greatly from my trust in CFS. My suspicion is they unknowingly purchased the shirt for a premium, thinking they could re-sell it at a much higher price, and are hoping to cut their losses by listing it for much less than what they initially asked for.

thank you for this insightful comment. I completely understand, I had a similar incident with a Roma shirt that had a peculiar nameset. I didn't mention it in the video (perhaps I should have, but I wanted to focus on this Italy shirt). Anyways, that time I told them that the Roma shirt on their site had a wrong colored nameset for the jersey. They responded they did research, and found it was worn one time and never got back to me. The shirt then disappeared from the site, and was reuploaded a while later. I always wondered, why tell me they did research and confirm it was worn in a single game, but not specify the game. It would've been the ultimate proof as I could've checked myself. Instead they never specified, kept it vague, removed product, and reuploaded later. Just looks like they were hoping to send me away. The fact that something like that happened to you too goes to says a lot.

If the shirt was “not widely used” it would be worth a lot more! Why would they cut the price in half instead? Lol back in the day these companies could get away with lies, but not anymore I’m glad people will call them out. I’ve bought from them before, will definitely think twice before spending big money on something “rare” from them.

They once brought an old Leeds shirt from me it wasn’t In great condition however it was in their Manchester store they added a fake name set to the shirt and tried to charge £85 when I asked them about it they told me it wasn’t the same shirt I checked the tag inside of the shirt and it had the same marking as my shirt I shown them pictures and they tried to dent it.. my shirt was next to another Leeds shirt that had the official name set and you could tell the difference easily.. I’ll never buy or sell to them again

As someone who has his own Sports kit printing business I can confirm your thoughts on this shirt are 100% correct, I have replaced many 'Brands' Logos on old shirts at customers requests and it's very easy to do, but printing over the top will always give you away, you'll never get the exact size etc due to the Shirts natural shrinking or expanding with wear. CFS were completely transparent in the old days but with the growth in business i've found more and more that the things you describe in this video are being done. Like you I'm a shirt collector and knowing what's match ready or match worn is clear over a replica and as such should be sold as such. Great video for awareness.

It became more evident that they were doing this during Euro 2020. The amount of classic England shirts with mint condition namesets listed on the site had me questioning if they were producing/buying replica sets and pressing them to cash in on the hype, as if no one would notice. Shady stuff. I always wanted to call them out for it but I’m glad you did. I may still buy shirts from them but none with a nameset.

I’ve made it something to not buy nameset jerseys from any sellers. There’s no way to tell they’re authentic. It would be blind trust. Namesets aren’t hard to recreate either. I am also someone who is a nerd and picky about something being 1000% authentic. It’s a risk to buy an older jersey with a nameset.

I have been to the London Shop recently. One thing that called my attention was in the England 1990 kits. Theses kits are much valued in the market and in the shop I have seen many different England badges on them. The original kits have the England badge kind of heat pressed with a lot of high relief details, as well as the umbro logo. Some of the kits in the shop had stiched badges (that look like a reissue Umbro mande years after) and some were heat pressed but with low quality badges. When I asked one salesperson at the shop he could not give me a convincing answer. He said that kits produced in different countries have some differences, what it is true, but the kits I was comparing were all made in England. Their website lacks info and real pictures of the kits, as long as more details of them. Being at the shop in person was great because I could take a better look and you can really find some gems in their collection. The only problem is that they have much more products at their website. My advice is, try to go to the shop and take a closer look at the kit you are looking for. You can really find some original gems.

100% can confirm they print their own repro namesets on original shirts and sell them as if the namesets are original. I have even bought a shirt from them where the shirt arrived and the nameset was not only a clear and obvious fake by material etc, but not even the correct design/style. I complained and got credit back. I then realised this is evidenced by the fact that for such vintage shirts they surprisingly have a lot of stock on hand available for some shirts, for example the same player printed shirt from the 90’s available in a range of sizes. I theorise that they may have these original shirts in different sizes, then whatever size you order they will print their nameset on it when order is placed. What are the chances of having a bunch of original shirts from the 90’s in all different sizes of the same player at any one time, particularly suspicious when it is commonly the household names (because its the easiest sell/markup for them). for example once i accidentally put a duplicate order through and i received two 95/96 blackburn shearer shirts, exactly the same but when they both arrived the nameset was slightly different and you could tell it was just how they were applied (one was plain bold white, the other you could see the shirts colour/stripes bleeding through the number). It ruined my faith in them, i dont think this is the worst thing in the world but for me you pay a premium price like the ones they charge for the piece of mind that you are undoubtedly getting authentic, original products with no ifs or buts, but it is not the case with CFS anymore unfortunately

Interesting to see this. I collect Celtic tops, and quite familiar with original name sets etc... when CFS came to Glasgow, I noticed the sickening amount of tops with fake name-sets. I can understand why they'd do it as a business, more people want a Larsson 7 top, than a top with no name-set. But, I do have an issue with them not disclosing this information. I feel it devalues the original tops, and ultimately makes them feel tacky, rather than a collectors item.

I have similar questions over the older Newcastle United shirts (anything pre-2006). I don’t remember many people having name sets in 1996 at all (and those that were were felt transfers that pealed off easily). Yet there are so many Shearer name sets out there on original shirts - often even printed in acrylic and lots of inconsistencies with the designs on sale at the time from the club shop.

Replica kits in the early 2000s, if they had names and numbers, were purchased from the club shop. that is it. and that market was locals going to their club's games in the flesh - not tourists getting Kane 9s. in fact, commercial printing was so novel almost half were people's own names and stuff like 'PYKEY 8S IS MISSUS.' Yet their stores are full of 1997 to 2004 Arsenal shirts mostly with Henry 14 and if not, Pires or Ljungberg. The most curious thing is the most clamoured for Gunners top of the last 20 years - the Highbury farewell - goes for an even more insane amount and has a more regular variation of namesets. know why? because getting the gold font is harder than the standard white and black of most AFC tops. Lovely company! I especially like their autistic Tory staff and interviews that are about as inspiring and 'I want to watch more!' as finding out your missus is fucking someone else.

I will there have been several instances of shirts coming in a different condition as described like cracks and peels in the printing and one time there was a huge rip in the sleeve. Anytime I’ve had an issue they’ve always refunded fully and cover the shipping back to the uk as well. But as you said I do wish the had a screening process for things such as nameset and patches. I’ve also heard they also apply namesets themselves to shirts to bump up there values, not sure if it’s true though.

This was a good video, very informative and fair. I've not had the best experience with CFS in the past. During the late 00s I started off buying from them but the first shirts I brought I had to the same with the stock photos and quality. I paid over the odds for an Aston Villa 91/92 shirt that was a medium and in good condition. What arrived was a kids size and most of the badge and sponsor pulled off and a few holes. They never responded to my email complaint and I took this as a one off and brought a few more shirts but had mixed results. Shirts were too small or too damaged but the website never clarified what condition they were in really and communication was almost non existent at times. I just found their customer care wasn't there. Years later I decided to contact them (at the time there was limited places other than ebay) to sell some good shirts. I understood the idea of it being a market/ business scenario and knew I'd sell them for a lot less then market value. However they seriously lowballed me on all offers and that was the last straw. - Original Sweden 92, Ireland 92, Croatia 96 and a few other shirts of that ilk and they offered £20 total for all shirts combined at first and about £30 in total in the end. - At the time the value of each shirt was on average £40+ each. It just felt like I was being treated like a schmuck and it put me off selling good shirts to them business wise. (A shame as I had been collecting shirts since the 90s and was happy to buy and sell at the time). I look at the prices then and now and I do get it that they are a business and need to make money but the prices are too much. Its also a collectors market too and this makes it so difficult for people to join and share in. I've personally decided to accept buying non original identical shirts now and find that I still get joy out of them. I just hope other people have better experiences with them and other companies and for the sake of it they make their website more transparent and helpful.

Oooh. This is massively shady on their part. I picked up an AC Milan 2008/09 Kaká shirt BNWT from them, and it was a Japanese market version. Now all that is fine, but they had this huge Milan drop around late October 2020, and it was then I picked up the aforementioned shirt. They had the same shirt with many players and it made me sceptical that they'd have added namesets later. Also, there have been plenty of occasions when the shirts have wear and tear and the nameset is mint, which means that the nameset were added later. They definitely add the reproduction namesets as well, because if it's an original official nameset it says in the description and if it's not the description is different. They need to massively improve their practices because it's shady stuff.

The few shirts I've bought from CFS, I honestly have no concerns with. Particularly when it was a shirt I'd previously owned. However, I started to notice how many more 1990's England shirts were suddenly appearing with player names & numbers on the back. I remember the Premier League introduced this in 1993-94 season, but couldn't recall England shirts before Euro 1996. Transpired they did have them on their 1992 kit for the Euros that year (same kit as Italia '90). However, as I've now seen, since watching this video, it appears to look like there are original shirts (wear of the label shows this), but the print is clean. As someone else has pointed out, I think they've probably done this to add value to the shirts. It's certainly something I'm now aware of and to keep an eye out for. Whilst I'm still keen to buy some genuine retro shirts, that I never got back in the day, I'm also somewhat mindful as some copies are pretty decent. I admittedly bought one from eBay, knowing what it was, and was very impressed with its quality for a £25 copy!

Well mate, this problem persists for several years already. The issue is that they may have ability to 'fix' shirts but they may not have ability to verify the authenticity of the namesets or even the shirts when sourcing from individual collectors for the vintage items. It is not common to see they made such easy mistakes on popular European shirts, but such authenticity issues happened a lot with their very niche non-European team products. In addition, when we started our business back in 2016, we used to have one supplier for nameset and patches, but we terminated the relationship with the supplier when we found some issues and also knew that CFS onboarded it and redistributed these items all over the world. You can say some people want common products but honesty/purity is also demanded by some pure collectors.

It is good to know it was at least a original shirt, even with the tampering. I guess more transparency would be the answer. But again, at least I can trust that it is real

Like a work of art or an antique, unless a "match worn" or "player issue" shirt has rock solid provenance, it's risky putting down serious money. I use them to buy replicas of jerseys of clubs/national teams I like the design of, for say, £20-£40. I don't think they act in bad faith personally but I can see your point of view as you are payed a lot of money for the shirt. I see that since you uploaded this video they have opened stores in the US so hopefully it might now be easier to address issues like this.

So, what did Classic Football Shirts have to say?
@Paul-t6b5s
@Paul-t6b5s 5 ай бұрын
As a collector of Leeds United Match, worn and match issued shirts i have always been wary of sellers. Classic football shirts have a Jacob Burns match issued shirt for sale. I am dubious about this shirt as it is XL, and at that time, the shirts were baggy. I'm pretty sure Burns was never XL as he was 5ft 10" but slightly built.

It was mentioned as a Feature of the shirt "Original Style print". Probably was the CFS themselves who printed the name set. Usually they do a good quality print, but in this case was a mess. Anyway It was in the description of the shirt.

You need to know several things. As collector you should know there’s a lots of original shirt made from different places for different markets. Example. 1997 Milan shirt. In Europe came from different place and fabric is not the same as sold it in Americas made in Mexico. Also Florentina and Lazio in the 90s. CFS buy shirts from around the world. 2006 Italy shirt was so different the one who i bought in México that the one I bought in England, both in big stores and the name set also different. I know they need to change the way post the shirts, with a exact photo of the product if it has some cracks, bubbles or it’s from a different factory

just read the comments about everyone else's experience and you'll know that what you're saying has nothing to do with the video. They use fake namesets and/or logos for shirts that have a high demand, simple as that.

I have been buying some past years Arsenal and Bayern shirts without name set for collection. They all have been alright and most importantly cheap, like ard 20 to 30 pound. I would never want to pay up to 100 or even 200 for a classic shirt for the reasons you mentioned

The Puma 2006 Italy Home kit replica version or any fake or replica has the italy country logo on the center embroidered. The Puma 2006 Italy Home kit player issue logo is heat pressed not stitched. The player issue name set was sold by Puma. The matchworn name sets were only sold in Italy, I own a Del Piero original player issue name set by Puma with the number but without the name, including the matchworn name set for Del Piero with the name and number. This matchworn name set for Del Piero #7 won't be found again. All other name sets sold are replicas not originals. There's a clear difference with the size and length when comparing the puma player issue name set 06 and the matchworn name set. Whereas the Puma name set is actually shorter than the matchworn name set. The replica name sets are long not short in size. The player issue 06 home kit has clear, noticeable signs of the black lines on front of the shirt plus the back and to the sides. When you look inside the shirt the black lines are also visible and there's a puma tag that shows a number coded to it with a blue tag marked next to black spaces. Replicas were all known to be made in Romania. Player issue kits were only made in Thailand.

Don't know if they would restore that, you see a lot of shirts on the site with terrible puma or adidas logos, even on valuable shirts you can sometimes clearly see the damage. I feel like if they tampared with yours, why wouldn't they tamper with all rare kits in bad condition?

I bought the italy shirt with the original printings and after 1 wash, all the logos faded away. The kit is a disaster, I almost thought it was fake. The fit is horrendous and the printing washes out incredibly easy after one wash. What CFS done here is basically keep the value of the jersey far longer

I visited their shop in Manchester a few weeks back when I was there for a few days. It was great to see some iconic shirts on display but the prices for most shirts were a total rip off. I will still use them for more recent stuff and only when they have 20% off but for any retro/vintage shirts I will go elsewhere.

Too bad that some details are off here. I know too well, how such small things can be really bothersome for a collector. While I love CFS (although finding deals in Brexit times becomes increasingly hard), I always felt that they are rarely giving you all the information on the shirt itself. I even think they are at times re-using old pictures and are very lax in describing every flaw. In addition, they have managed already twice to send me wrong shirt. Esp over the last two years, I more and more got the feeling that CFS is getting quite sloppy.

I have this same issue with every shirt I look for. Personally I find extremely difficult to find legit printings, and I used to trust CFS blindly, cause they're market leaders right? One day I found a Xavi 2003/2005 jersey with a UCL printing (no LFP printed on top of the number) and got me curious because those weren't available at the time. Of course they charged like €250 and the only sentence describing the print was "original style print" instead of "official lettering" or so. So I never purchased anymore from them considering the ridiculous pricetags. Nevertheless I still consider them the place to look for vintage jerseys. Greetings from Chile, great video

In a market like this, it's always better to be honest, particularly in a market full of fakes because if you lie even once and a video like this appears, less people will buy at least the expensive parts of the shirt, just be damn honest, especially when you're that big in the market. Trust is such a major part, I wonder what Ellis Platten of AwayDays makes of this as they sponsor his channel often. 🤔🤔🤔

Nah dude. You’re tripping. They know exactly what they are doing. It’s really disgusting selling authentic shirts with fake namesets and not mentioning that to the buyer before selling it. Imo it loses all of the shirt’s value. I’m not the one to resell my kits but somebody that does is basically buying a worthless jersey if it has a fake nameset on it imo. No collector would want to buy that. If somebody had a authentic Real Madrid Dragon kit but a fake Ronaldo name set printed on it, that shirt is basically worthless to a collector.
