I had a friend who would run sled dogs on a glacier in the summer with her dad. She would always come back with her entire face tan except for around her eyes. Looked like a reverse raccoon. But that sun can get so intense (even in Alaska) that it will fry your eyes.

It's truly fascinating to me the amount of people I've had throw a hissy fit at me because I pointed out the fact that their weird and bizarre diet really only works because it ultimately just achieves the goal of putting them into a calorie deficit Conversely I've had people accuse me of lying for pointing out the fact that I was able to continue eating junk food and processed food and all that and still lose weight / maintain a healthy muscle mass I don't really see why people act like this is such a bizarre concept I literally just ate less of those things but still ate them It really is truly genuinely that easy to lose weight. Literally you just have to eat less but most people just don't have the mental fortitude to do it so they need these crash diets that will basically trick them into accomplishing the same goal

Truth tight here! 99.9% of people are eating more than they are burning, but they don't want to take responsibility - it's always blamed on genetics, or hidden illness etc.

True. My husband has lost over 100lbs BUT not in a healthy way. The first 80lbs was because his blood sugar was out of control. When you're diabetic and your sugars are jacked like his you lose weight without trying. He would get frustrated when he'd gain weight back when he took his insulin. That was 7 years ago. Then he lost more weight recently and continues to do so because his antidepressants are also appetite suppressants. He still eats garbage. Never anything remotely healthy unless it's fruit (which he's not supposed to have. Like literally everything else he eats and drinks). Sodas, ice cream, chips, pizza, etc. I make a healthy meal and he might eat it but God forbid there are any leftovers. He won't touch it. It kills me that I put in more effort to lose weight than he does and he's the one losing weight like crazy. All he does is lay in bed. Only to get up to go to the bathroom or kitchen. Doesn't exercise. He's disabled so he doesn't work. Meanwhile I'm literally about to clock in to work rn and sweat my ass off and have a bullshit mini meal for lunch today.

I'm in the U.S., and I get a lot of sentiment from people in my generation and younger (born in the 90s and onward,) that they don't vote because they think their vote does not matter and won't count. It annoys me because, first, simply and objectively it's not true from a mathematical standpoint. One one millionth is small, but it is not zero; get enough votes together, and they matter. Second, some elections and votes are usually a lot closer than people realize. Third, last but not least, while the presidential election gets all the big attention, it's actually the smaller elections that typically matter more for your day to day life. (A crazy nutjob of a president starting World War 3 being an obvious exception.) Who you elect governor and your local mayor will have far more impact on most of us average day to day people. Plus these are the votes and elections that can be very close, with differences in the low thousands to even just a few hundred between the winning side and the losing side. Combine points two and three together, and it's clear that people not going out and voting matters more than they think it does. Some politicians _cough Republicans cough_ even count on the fact that not everybody will go out and vote. So get out there and vote, dang it! Stop complaining about having no agency, when you can go and get some agency!

The radar & laser speed detectors use, as I understand it, doppler shift to measure your speed, and time for return for the distance the reading was taken at. By the time you see them, if you were the only one speeding, it’s prolly too late.

Polygraphs to detect a person is lying - they do not detect that. They detect signs of stress common in people who also happen to be lying. Not everyone experiences them though, sociopaths can tell you outrageous stories without ever feeling a shred of stress, and at the same time 100% honest person that is very nervous about taking test, or even due to sth completely unrelated, might be indicated as a liar. Wikipedia entry on polygraphs literally calls them "junk science" in very first sentence.

However, at the same time, I'm so nervous, if someone asked me what I ate for breakfast, even if I answered 100% truthfully, I'd probably fail.

What i love about manual cars is if you see a cop at night you can down shift and let off the gas and engine brake so you can quickly slow down without touching the actual brakes so the brakelights dont come on and alert the cop u were just speeding. For anyone unfamiliar with engine braking, when you let off the gas in an automatic the transmission disengages from the engine, so as your engine slows its rpms the car keeos coasting, but in a manual if you let off the gas and dont manually throw it in neutral yourself then as the engine slows down then since it's still engaged to the transmission and then the drivetrain the slowing of the engine will slow the wheels. If you down shift then do it, he wheels slow faster. U barely even need the actual brakes in a manual

What I found that works best for me is to simply cut down on the amount I eat a bit (not much as I still need it since I'm generally quite active - mostly my brain that refuses to slow down, but also for e.g. recovering after blacksmithing) and stay away from high sugary snacks.

the snow sunburn thing is pretty common knowledge where i am from (Norway), probably because going to the mountains to ski during easter is so common, and by that point the day is pretty long and often sunny, but the snow also reflects, and a lot of people have no tollerance built up after the winter so easter sunburns are not an uncommon thing. Rather than throw the grease out, save it. Get some sodium hydroxide and some silicone molds, and make your own soap. Incidentally you can also just dump some down the drain along with a bit of water, to break up any grease deposits in the pipe. I mean it IS lye--same stuff used in many drain cleaners.

I hate the people that see a cop and slow down 15 under the speed limit after just doing 5 over. Like a 5 over ticket usually isn’t worth a cops time to pull you over, however slowing down significantly like that will make you look suspicious and get you pulled over if the cop notices

I don't believe in healthy/unhealthy foods, think about it like this, you can buy a lego kit over and over again but you're not gonna be able to build a whole lot with a bunch of duplicate kits, mix things up by buying a bunch of different kits. Similar concept with food, different types of food contain different portions of nutrients that your body needs, you can have your favorite foods but you have to be conscious about what else your body needs.

Sugar doesn't make kids hyper, literally the first result on "does sugar make kids hyper is that it is a myth, there's a difference between cause and effect and pure coincidence, our brains tend to blame things on other things just because it makes sense, ask your child's doctor or just a children's doctor in general for more info, and yes my info about sugar making kids hyper is from multiple sources.

Sugar in of itself does not cause hyperactivity. It can ENCOURAGE hyperactivity, especially if you EXPECT it to, but when it comes down to it, it is not a direct cause and effect relationship, it simply has a strong correlation.
